Do I have to buy a separate juicer????

Hmmm...Do you already have a juicer? It depends on whether you have a juicer that will do greens. Well, some will do greens or even wheatgrass, but are wasteful.

You can even mix in a Vita-Mix with a little water and blend, then strain in a nutmilk bag. I'm generally in a hurry in the a.m. and do this just about every morning.

Nutmilk bag??? :weird

I have a regular juicer (Hamilton Beach) I juice kale, broccoli, spinach, carrots, ginger, apple.....

I don't know what a vita-mix is

Boy I can't wait until I know what the heck you're all talking about :throwhearts:

I have a Samson juicer. I chose it because it would juice wheatgrass (among other reasons). *Ü*

a vita-mix (http://www.timelessspirit.com/MAY08/review6.shtml) is a high speed blender. top notch in the world of blenders!

just pick up a little hand crank wheatgrass juicer... that'll do nicely for you. here's one i recommend... lexen (http://www.timelessspirit.com/MAR09/review4.shtml)

Thanx for the info but I just can't see getting another juicer. I'll try wheatgrass in mine and see what happens. Wish me luck!

so then... may i ask... why did you start this thread???

I wouldnt try wheatgrass in your juicer. You might short it out (hubby did that to ours when he was too lazy to get out our wheat grass juicer) and we had to buy a new one. You should use a juicer that specifically can juice wheatgrass... Good luck if you still choose to use yours!

wheatgrass won't juice in a centrifugal juicer... it'll spin around but nothing more than that. you will just waste that precious wheatgrass...

Yep. If you have wheatgrass, but not a wheatgrass juicer you might consider using to make a green smoothie. I haven't tried it but I have heard of it. For me wheatgrass has too strong of a flavor for me to mix in a green smoothie, but on the other hand it would be a good alternative to wasting it trying to juice it in a juicer that won't work.

you should not consume the grass though. you have to strain it out. it can cause blockages in your body... so don't ever consume the grass itself!!!

Say what! I always ate grass when I was a kid. Well, maybe that would explain what went wrong.........

Excuse me???? Apparently I began this thread to find out about juicing wheatgrass.... hence the title "juicing wheatgrass" I have started quite a few threads here and if you read anything I have written, you can very well see that I am new to all of this.

I had no idea whatsoever that juicing wheatgrass involved another juicer. Maybe I should just google everything instead of asking here in a forum that I mistakenly thought was friendly.

Thank you for this valuable information. I will not try it in my new juicer. I don't want to break it.

Welcome to our community, please don't feel defensive. We are all doing the best we can. Often the old timers here kindly take the time to answer the same questions over and over again from newcomers. I've learned to use the advanced search button and discover a wealth of info on this board and I often resurrect an old thread and add to it.

No honestly it wasn't that at all.

Bottom line... I was water fasting yesterday and found myself in a very grumpy space. I took it out on jazzy. Not at all her fault. She had every right to ask the question... it was my responsibility to NOT post when I was feeling like that.

Hence why I apologized for it today.

It was me... not her.

And Jazzy you would have had a personal email from me if you had your settings set up to accept emails.

Just so you know. :heart cause I'm really not a grump.

JAZZYGIRL - we really are a friendly group. It can feel overwhelming in the beginning - You'll find yourself gaining knowledge rather quickly and then it will all fall into place. We are all here for you.

If you stick to being raw, as you detox or eat a wrong food - you'll even find yourself being grumpy at times. We've done such a number on our bodies from eating SAD (Standaardized American Diet), that you will be amazed as to what will come out of your body from all nooks and cranies!

Have fun ! :cheer:

Thank you Aleesha for your apology and trying to reach out to me. I can be stubborn but never mean, unless someone lashes out at me first.

I think I have my settings set up correctly. I did have it where administrators are able to email me so I'm not sure why you weren't able.

So Jazzygirl, What kind of juicer do you have?

There's a diff betw a juicer and a blender. A blender just blends everything together, whereas a juicer separates the pulp, so your juice comes out pulpless. The high-speed blenders will make thicker "smoothies" because they have pulp blended in. .

High-speed blenders are usually of two brands, Vita-Mix and Blendtec. Main diff is V-M has a tamper...a thing that you can push down on stuff with - while it's blending.

You can even get one of those mini blenders, think Magic Bullet and make wheatgrass juice in there. But you need to cut it up into oh, 1" pieces and mix with water, then strain.

Is this helping?

So, again, what type of juicer do you have?

I have an Hamilton Beach (http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-67801-Health-Extractor/dp/B001OUIR5A/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1298731022&sr=1-4)do like it quite a bit. It's my first juicer so I didn't want to go too expensive in case this was something I didn't enjoy but I do enjoy juicing and feeling great. I have had it for one week and use it twice a day :excited:

I have a Black & Decker (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-BL1900-48-Ounce-Stainless/dp/B0009IE49G) blender that I have used for smoothies (fruit), never considered putting veggies in there, didn't know I could!! I've had that for a while.

I bought the magic bullet once and returned it because it was so small. I see they also have a blender.

Thank you for the info Mary Kay.... yes very helpful. Oh and I looked for you on FB and couldn't find you!

Aha! That Hamilton Beach has got to be the least expensive juicer I've ever seen --LOL except at garage sales.

It is considered a centrifugal juicer and will no doubt, do a great job with apples, carrots, cukes....I have a similar one (as well as 3 others! ) the Jack LaLanne and I have done greens in it, but you have to roll them up tightly and it is quite wasteful.

The diff betw the tiny Magic Bullet and your reg blender (besides its tiny size) is that even though the Magic Bullet is a "toy" compared to a Vita-Mix, for example, it is still a high-speed blender and you absolutely can do wheatgrass in it if you cut it up. Buy a nylon mesh one gallon paint straining bag from a paint store, and it acts as a nutmilk bag. You can then strain your wheathgrass juice. You could even cut kale up etc and do the same with it.

I've noticed my Magic Bullet will blend greens about 90% as well as my Vita-Mix. It still has tiny bits of kale greens for example, whereas your regular juicer will have slightly larger particles.

HTH,

Mary Kay

Wow this is good to know. I was putting the wheatgrass into my green smoothies...Yikes! Thanks for posting the link to that juicer, its a nice affordable price and i will be investing in that for sure! :hug I have a Champion Juicer, not good for wheatgrass......
