Omega 8006 Question

Hey guys,

New to the forum. :)

Looking to buy a juicer and after a wee bit of research, have narrowed it down to the Omega 8006.

Looked into the Super Angel 5500, but heard that clean up is a real pain. And if it takes between the quoted 25-45 minutes to clean up, I won't be doing what I prefer to do: juicing pretty much every day.

Omega vrt330 seemed like a good one, until I read about how the actual parts of the machine are made of flimsy plastic and at times, break/crack within three days of use. And just crack very easily, in general.

So I'm down to the J8006 by Omega. Ton of great reviews, none of which (as far as I can recall) mentioned anything regarding cheap materials. But I read this quote on another forum:


"The omega vert vrt 330 if you want to juice fruits as well as vegetables/greens. The omega 8006 (and the older identical models) if you want to do mostly leafy greens, vegetables or wheatgrass."

Can any of you guys explain why the above reviewer would not suggest the 8006 for fruits?

I was planning on not only using the 8006 for vegetables (carrots, celery, kale, wheatgrass, etc), but also for fruits (apples, oranges, watermelon, etc). Is the 8006 best used for softer vegetables or can it basically be used for anything? Are what the few reviewers mentioning about it being great for juicing vegetables and leafy greens suggesting is that -that- is what it's best used for and not in any way implying that it doesn't do a good job with fruits and such? Or is the 8006 truly only good for leafy greens and softer vegetables?

Your thoughts (especially from those who have owned and used the 8006) would be greatly appreciated.

I don't own the Omega, but I do own the Samson - both are very similar; single auger vertical juicers.

Here's what I do. I've also got a Champion that I've had since the early 80s and it juices soft fruits great. So, I use them both and store them side-by-side on the counter. I juice my fruit and cucumbers in the Champion - then I switch to the Samson for all the rest of the veggies & greens.

On a side note - the reason why I chose the Samson is that it comes with a cold oil attachment and we grind our own cold pressed flax. (This is available through discountjuicers.com)

It's my understanding though that the Green Star (by Tribest) will juice greens as well as fruit. I believe one of our Moderators, Aleesha has a Green Star.

I love my Greenstar but I am not at all pleased with its performance with wheat grass juice, and I'm considering that same Omega. Nothing perks me up like a shot of wheat grass juice.

I just got the Omega 8004, which is exactly the same as the 8006, except white color instead of chrome, and a little cheaper. ...I love it! So far it juices everything I put in it...celery, apples, carrots, kale, lemon (without rind), pineapple........the clean up is crazy quick, so easy....I can't wait to make some frozen fruit sorbet too.

I have an Oscar 900 (aside from cosmetic differences to the body of the juicer, the Oscar 900 is fundamentally the same as Omega 8006, except it has the older auger - the 8006 auger is made of a tougher material).

The Oscar 900 does NOT juice soft fruits very well (e.g. citrus or cucumber) but I don't much care because in all other respects, this juicer is superb and I believe it is the best compromise available if one wishes to juice mostly wheatgrass and vegetables (fruit juice isn't that good for you anyway - much better to consume fruit in whole form if you want to avoid disrupting the phosphorous levels in your blood, in order to keep your calcium metabolism from going awry).

The newer vert juicers are pretty clever and appear to do a nice job (e.g. the Omega 350VRT HD) but where they gain over the older Oscar 900/Omega 8004/5/6 in terms of outright speed and yield on hard vegetables, they lose on yield with wheatgrass.

BOTH the 350VRT HD and the 8006 have their pros and cons, then, and, for the most part, either of them would keep me happy, but for me the 8006 (and Oscar-branded equivalent DA-900) just edge in front because they very nearly match the yield of the 350VRT HD with hard veg such as carrots, but convincingly beat the 350VRT HD with wheatgrass.

i read a couple people gripe about clean up time of the super angel as well but decided to get one anyway a couple months ago. all i can say is it's simply not true. i use mine every single day have juiced all sorts of leafy greens, roots veges & fruits. there is a small "knife" tool included with the juicer which is used to scrape the outer bit of the screen housing as well as a nice brush for cleaning the inside. i am VERY thorough. the entire dis-assembly & cleaning process takes me around 5 minutes. i cannot imagine what people are doing that would take much longer than that. the very first time i did it and was not as familiar it took me perhaps 10 minutes.. but even that is stretching it. i specifically timed myself several times and both me and my wife are dumbfounded about why people have made posts about the long clean up time. maybe they are competitor companies trying to cast the super angel in a bad light?

the only drawback to this juicer imo is the cost. but if you can afford one i wouldn't hesitate. i worked in a juicer bar for several years and used a champion at home for many more. i have also checked out the omega vert and the greenstar & the super angel juicer blows them all away with extraction efficiency, looks, and quality of materials

perhaps next time i juice i will shoot a video of the cleaning process to dis-spell the rumors.

We have had our Angel 5500 for a month, the juices are the best and the cleanup is easy. I don't know what people are doing with the Angel to make the cleanup so laborious. It just is not true!
