Hello,

I don't really have a lot to say right now but will probably add to this thread as I wake up a little and do some more research.

I guess I will start of with a few of my goals that relate to raw food. They are as follows:

1) Eat 90-95% raw foods (as an end goal)
2) Learn more about what foods do what in the human body
3) Become an avid gardener ;) (mmmm fresh vegetables)
4) Learn how to store food properly
5) Learn more about the right quantities that will enable my body to grow (I like lifting weights)
6) Learn how to procure food for as cheap as possible hence enabling me to eat more (mmm eating more)
7) I should have said this first but oh well... learn the basics of how to survive in MY geographical location on at least 60-70% raw food (food that is available to me in my area)

:woohoo: <--- lol I like that emotocon!

Ohh... I also want to add that I think that food addiction is a real thing. I dont think its something that is 100% in the mind of the person. A good example of this is sugar. I know im addicted to it cause if i dont get sugar in 2-3 dyas i begin having withdrawl symptoms like physically shaking mental fog etc etc.

I also believe that it IS possible to gain muscle on a vegetarian diet although i am not one at this point in time. I just think it requires either vast knowledge and effort or vast sums of money. I went vegetarian, vegan infact for a while and found the only thing that changed was my wallet!

I am a firm believer in making things work. I dont see problems just solutions! Knowledge is the key.

Oh if anyone has any tips on buying vegetables specifically (I really love vegetables) in Australia (Adelaide) then let me know. I have already tried going to the markets to buy "fresh produce" but I have found it is way too difficult for me to get to via train :(

Also if anyone has any tips on storage of vegetables especially stuff that can be stored without a fridge let me know, thanks.

Hi and welcome to RFT. You will find a lot of great info here and I wish you the best on your learning journey. We have several Aussie rawbies and maybe they will chime in and provide some help with your current location. Take the journey as slow or as fast as you like. The important thing is to have fun with it and fine tune to suit you. I like that you don't see problems just solutions. Thats the positive attitude!

Food addictions are real. Sugar is a thief. There are many natural forms of sugar that are beneficial but just listen to your own body as to what forms are best for you.

Seems like fruits and veges will keep without refridgeration to a certain extent. Dehydration is a good form of preservation. You may need to buy in smaller amounts to keep things fresh.

Wish you the best!

Welcome... I am new here as well and you will find many sugar addicts here. I am one and trying so hard to quit. I had the headaches, missed work, you name it. I went back to eating sugar and decided to cut it out slowly as I couldn't take the side affects anymore.

I started juicing on Sunday, today I had m & m's and they literally made me sick, I was surprised myself.

I have faith in going raw although I am in the dark about it as you are.

Good luck! Maybe we can be a team and beat this sugar addiction!!

Thanks :)

I'm going to go to a fruit and vegetable store today after work and buy some carrots and what not. Although im a sugar addict I still like sugary veg and fruit because it doesnt seem to do anything weird to me.

I also have a juicer :) they are great arent they! I love carrot juice and other vegetable juice the most. Unfortunately im a horrible gardener :( and Im not rich enough to afford the quantity of vegetables that i could easily drink. Australian produce is really really expensive even in season!

Anyways thanks again.

I do have a dehydrator but I dont really like that kind of stuff. I would much prefer to pick up an apple or carrot and start munching away. Although dried apricots are great.

Hey! I'm new here too. Definitely, if you're starting out, cooked temptation is sooo easy to give in to so yeah I feel u. I'm "socially booked" until March 12 so after that, I'm planning to keep super low key for a month or so to concentrate on this...ie no going out..no getting tempted is the key I have in mind. And I'm a majorrr sugar fiend too. I ate a whole box of Lindt chocolates recently. And I love cookies....Juicing is a good start. I used to juice everyday but I don't have my juicer anymore. Concentrate on what you ARE able to achieve and keep building up from there...in the meantime, do more research on the stuff you want to learn :) Don't give up.

Are you sure this is not because you're depriving your brain of sugar? You know it works on glucose right? :) It needs about 100 grams/day. I somehow don't believe sugar is addictive.

Im sure I have read a study that suggests sugar is addictive.

Anyway I think I will start with fruit! Add some raw fruit to my diet and then slowly add other things. Fruit seems to be a good choice for beginners.
