Hello everyone:
I am Elaine and I am new here and just beginning to explore raw foods. A little about myself: I will turn 43 on Saturday and I've been a vegetarian for almost 20 years. I became one after the birth of my daughter. Even though I've been a vegetarian all these years, I definitely do not eat healthy. I tend to overdo it on carbs and thus have developed diabetes. The good thing, though is that it was caught in time, and thankfully I so far do not have to take medication, but it was enough of a wake up call for me.
When I became a vegetarian, I actually was a vegan first. But there were not as many food choices or books on how to do it successfully like there are now, so I gave it up. I'd heard of raw foodists and even fruitarians, but thought that was totally fringe, lol.
Anyway, I've decided that after my birthday I will begin my journey. I don't know if I'll go 100% raw or not. I know that in the past I tend to jump into things and then peter out, but I know in this case I have to make a lifestyle change.
You would think it wouldn't be so hard. I actually quit eating meat cold turkey. It wasn't hard to do, but something about this is just in my mind, hard. And the battle is in the mind. I think what has discouraged me in the past is that many of the recipes I've seen are really long and complicated, and I don't have that kind of time.
My mother bought me Alissa's new book for my birthday and is sending it to me, so I'm excited to get it. Well, enough of my novella. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
