How does one do that?
I would love to know what one would eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks.
How do you get your protein?
I love this site!!!! :throwhearts:

I'm pretty new to raw, but plants have protein.
I also don't do many elaborate meals, I'm more simple in my eating.
Green smoothie at breakfast, or maybe some soaked raw oat groats with strawberries.
I eat fresh, whole fruit throughout the day. Current faves are apple, banana and plum but I got some fantastic organic grapes today.
I do eat raw nuts but no many. I eat avocado sprinkled with nuts when I'm feeling I need some fats.
Dinners may be a big salad, or veggies and raw dressing, etc.
We eat a LOT of bananas at our house.
We also make fruit only smoothies for desserts.
Honestly it doesn't get much easier than raw....especially if you aren't doing elaborate recipes.

I can say that my muscle mass and stamina are at their best eating raw, so I don't worry about protein personally.

raw live foods are full of amino acids. amino acids are the building blocks for protein. hence why we don't worry about protein. we are gifting our bodies heaps of aminos!

I need more examples of raw.
Can I eat cereal with almond milk and blueberries?

I've been making a wonderful cereal lately.
I soak oat groats in almond milk with some pecans, chopped dates and grated apple. Add a splash of vanilla and it's ready the next morning!
Sometimes I'll add some sliced banana or fresh blueberries. Yum! Oh, and don't forget to sprinkle with cinnamon!

RAW foods are anything you can eat at its natural state..in my opinion at least...so fruit, nuts (raw, unsalted not toasted, roasted or anything like that), vegetables, greens, many grains, but for us to get the most out of it, srpout it first...
I make apple porridge..apple cut in wedges, put in your food processor, give it whirl, add some nuts, I like walnuts or almonds, some cinnamon and whirl it up some more..until desired consistency, sometimes i leave it pretty chunky other times I make it smoother, almost like pudding, either way it is delish. I imagine you could make this with any hard fruit, but I like it with apple, tastes like apple pie to me. Smoothies are great for breakfast too, especially if you add greens to it...super charged..Do you have either one of Alissa's books? I highly recommend both of them, but her first one is my bible..I love it...has all the answers I needed.
Dips, salads, noodles made out of zucchini with marinara sauce...ahhh the choices are endless..dive in and try it all..enough protein is the least of my problems..finding enough hours in the day to taste all the wonders nature provides, that can be a challenge...challenge yourself to make one new salad/dessert/dip/snack recipe a week..check out all the good recipes in the recipe section....oh I can go on and on..
Do you have a dehydrator? It isn't a neccessity, just wondering?

For me a typical raw day looks about like this:
Breakfast: juicing kale, lemon, apples and celery OR a green smoothie which contains banana, spinach, mango...so good btw.
snack: fruit, blueberries or oranges or apples or strawberries..you get the idea.
Lunch: maybe a sandwich on raw apple flax bread with avocado, tomato, sprouts, and lettuce on it and maybe some sunflower pate, if I have it. OR if i am really hungry and feel like I need something more solid I'll have some nuts, I make raw granola and it is really filling.
Snack: romaine lettuce with almond butter spread on it, sounds weird but it is really good especially with some agave nectar drizzled on.
Dinner: Salad, lettuce, tomatoes, sprouts, avocado OR another green smoothie.
Some days I feel like I eat all day long, and others just the simplest things satisfy me. You can make raw eating as simple or complex as you want. To start off I would say keep it simple. Good luck :)

I'd highly recommend in investing in yourself and buying Cohen's book Living On Live Foods. It is rich with more information than we can offer in a thread.
For now, eat lots of fruit and salads, and let us know how you're doing.

You people are full of info... some rather scary as I can't imagine eating some of these foods. I love nuts and seeds, almonds and sunflower seeds are my fav.
I asked this in another thread.... how do you make veggies in a smoothie? Which veggies do you recommend?
So which book would be the most beneficial for a raw newbie .... Cohen's book Living On Live Foods or Alissa's books?
Basenjimamma, I do not have a dehydrator.

Alissa Cohen, who hosts this internet community, wrote the book Living On Live Food. I've read dozens of books on the raw food diet and consider it the best all-around book for beginners.

The reason I was wondering is because with one you could make more "traditional" foods, like wraps, breads, crackers or the like..it is by no means a neccessity to own one though. I have one, but I rarely use it..
I asked this in another thread.... how do you make veggies in a smoothie? Which veggies do you recommend?
If you mean how to make a green smoothie with greens in it..simply by adding it to your regular smoothie. Start with Spinach as it isn't very strong flavored, and then slowly add kale, romaine or other greens. I usually add two very full hands of greens to my daily breakfast smoothie..I like it either with kale or spinach..I always have a banana for creaminess in it as well..then I add whatever other fruit I feel like or have available..like a mango, blueberries, a really ripe pear or....you get the idea.
and YES, get Alissa Cohen"s book..Living on live foods.., it's a must"..:)

Thanks! Ok, Alissa Cohen, here I come!!!
I am going to attempt a smoothie with spinach this weekend. My smoothies usually consist of blueberries, banana and almond milk. Will it be ok to mix the spinach with that?

My raw day...
Fruit til around 11am-as much as I need to be satisfied
Green smoothie-apple,lemon, kale or pear, lemon, kale or mango, pineapple, banana, spinach etc
Lunch-smoothie of almond milk, strawberries, banana, blueberry, hemp, maca, spirulina, spinach or kale or other green.
Snack-Lara Bar (not always totally raw) or Alissa's Fudge Balls, flax crackers and almond butter or sesame fudge
Dinner-quac and salsa or tacos or salad or not tuna with corn salad or Alissa's Chili our new fave!
I eat lighter in the AM and heavier in the PM.
Hope this helps. Raw is so wonderful and I wish you the best on your journey.

Juicing just 5 cups of kale is 11 grams of protein! Dark leafy greens have a lot of protein. So do nuts and seeds. One ounce (142 seeds) of sunflower seeds is 6.5 grams. Also raw cacao has protein too. Two tablespoons has 5.3 grams... yum:drool:
