Hi there... I've been raw off and on for 3 yrs (I started around the same time as Aleesha-- and I AM SOOO PROUD OF HER PROGRESS-- woohoo!!)
I am also a long time MC faster-- am on day 5 of my second round this year (did a 20 day in January).
I was a year SAD and became VERY ill. After a cardiac scare back in Dec, I went on the MC and got my blood pressure back to normal (as well as my basic health). However, I *know* that I MUST go back raw. This was a total wakeup call.
I am a crazy carnivorous food-obsessed foodie. The reason why raw appeals to me (and always has) is because it allows me to obsess about what I put inside of me and presents a challenge (that I LOVE) to recreate/satisfy/create deliciousness as well as heal and share LOVE that we create for others to consume :).
My mama was diagnosed with iodine-deficiency related dementia back in October. I live in Michigan, which has one of the HIGHEST rates of iodine deficiency on the planet (and-- subsequently-- the worst chronic cancer rates/health probs in this country). In the past, unless I did raw, I would suffer from massive bad health. I've actually contracted every new influenza that's hit us... Since December, I've been taking Lugol's iodine supplements (as well as others) and have NOT been touched by any of the viruses (though tummy bugs sometimes plague me). This in and of itself is AMAZING.
After she became ill, she decided to move back to Manila (I am half-Filipino) in January. From November to January, I had weekly LAVISH dinner parties (cooked) so that she could remain engaged socially and mentally before she left for Asia. As a result of bad SAD eating (and I am taking HORRIBLY HEDONISTIC STUFF) and the doc's prescription to me for this new ADHD med (vyvanse), I almost stroked out in late December. I was in the hospital for a weekend, then put on bp lowering meds. These caused massive water weight gain in just a week (then I went off them and on the master cleanse-- screw that). After my 20 day MC in Jan the cardiologist tested me EVERYWHERE. MY BP was normal. I had NO problems with any nook/cranny/artery. That was my wakeup call... but I didn't quite listen.
After completing my 20 day, I went back SAD and fell ill with a horrible tummy bug. With the help of supplements/lugols I was on my feet in 2 days (while everyone else I know had it for 2 weeks). I feel that long master cleanses are the BEST prep to go raw... :)
In the past, I've been anywhere from 80-100 percent raw when I am 'on'.
However, I usually 'fall off the wagon' around late July (it's our local festival time)... and degenerate from there til after the holidays.
I usually found it extremely difficult to continue with raw during the winters because I got SO cold. Now that I am on the iodine, I am ALWAYS warm (yay). All of my issues in that regards have been resolved. I want to-- no, I *need* to-- go back raw.
In the past, I've beat myself up when I wasn't as close to 100 percent as possible. I am going to be easier on myself this time. An all or nothing attitude hasn't done me any favors in the past at all...
Sooooo... I am back! (well, I *will* be as soon as this MC is done).
