Hi, I'm new here, trying to get more healthy.
Can you tell me about the green powder mixes? Are they good? Do you use them or are your green smoothies green from the raw veggies you put in them? Thanks.

our green smoothies are green from the greens we put in them!

spinach, kale, romaine... to name a few.

i never use green powders (except spirulina and chlorella)

I use Vitamineral Green (http://http://www.amazon.com/Vitamineral-Green-500-g-Powder/dp/B003GF8NVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297972434&sr=8-1). I put 1-2 teaspoons into my fruit smoothie. This in only because I'm a big baby when it comes to green smoothies and have yet to bring myself to eat/drink one. So, this giving me some 'greens' in a less hardcore way. Just my 2 cents.

I think green powders are hyped, overpriced, unnecessary 'superfoods' for raw foodists who don't get enough nutrition from fruits and vegetables.

Not so long ago I would have agreed with MM, yet, recently, I was given some of Richard Schulze's Super Food Plus and was amazed at the difference I felt the next day after mixing it with juice (and drinking it) the night before. I'll continue blending it with juices and smoozies.

I've used sample packs of it when I had no access to fresh greens

i also use vitamineral green but not as a replacement for real greens.

i blend some frozen berries with some leafy stuff and then i add vitamineral green powder and hemp protein on top of it.

i think vitamineral green is worth it because you get a lot of stuff you otherwise might not get and it has a very balanced taste which for a noob like me is important.

it would be more cost effective to buy stuff like chlorella and spirulina separately but some people find their taste impossible and according to what i have read the taste can vary among different batches.

also if you buy things separately you will have to buy very large quantities ( like a pound of each ingredient ) to get a good price and you might not be able to use it all before it goes bad. when you buy a pound of a powder thats a mix of 20 different things and has a relatively balanced taste you end up consuming it in ~2 weeks so it doesn't go bad.

i'm still considering other options but so far vitamineral green is working for me.

I'm a big fan of throwing in as many wild greens and herbs into a smoothie or green soup as possible. Fresh green superfoods are best, there is no doubt! BUT, green powders have their place too. Most on the market aren't that special. I LOVE Pure Synergy though, as it is really more medicinal than your average green powder blend. It contains all of your land and aquatic greens (many in their juices form!) but also medicinal mushrooms, tonic herbs, fruits, enzymes, sprouts, Asian herbs, etc. and it is made with the highest integrity. Vitamineral Green is great too but i prefer the flavor of Pure Synergy.

Ah! Thank you, Revvell! Just what I needed. I just watched a 10hr video on Robert Schulze. What a man! :woot: I will try this out.

You're welcome. Richard's got a heckuva story too. I met him at a conference with my own teacher more than 25 years ago now.

thanks for the tip. i was running out of vitamineral green and looking to try something different for a change. ended up ordering a bottle of pure synergy as well as a bottle of vitamineral green for reference. i don't have any issues with vitamineral green but i think i would be better off rotating several good green powders in my diet rather than being married to one.

Sun Warrior has a great green powder that I just tried. Mixing it up from my years of Vitamineral.

I have 2 jobs, and staying raw is a challenge for me.
When I make my smoothies a green powder is the easiest and quickest way for me.....

seems to be missing algae completely. if that is indeed the case its a huge shortcoming.

are you adding them separately?

glad it's missing algae!!! I can't stand the taste.
I supplement with some kelp.
I love the Garden of Life product because it has so many things in it that I wouldn't normally have, or be financially able to purchase.
For me, it's a good bang for my buck!

right. you want to make a strong tasting smoothie to overcome some of these issues. pomegranate juice seems to be helpful in this regard.

I use that one too, but only if I don't have any greens in the fridge. I figure the point of being raw is to get the best, freshest possible nutrients as often as possible, and powder is not fresh. Granted it's better than nothing, especially here in Vermont in the winter when fresh greens are either scarce or completely gross-looking.

I didn't realize it was lacking algae, Proteus. Thank you for pointing that out. Between this post and the one above, I think the universe might be telling me to pick up some chlorella. :)
