Hi , i am starting to lean more and more towards raw products and integrating them into my diet.

However , i train a lot of sports , so i burn a lot of calories, i also need a fair amount to keep my muscles maintained. I feel great when eating healthy , but i do not want to lose weight.

The healthier i eat the harder it gets to consume sufficient calories, i often find myself eating a large pizza or other stuff that i rather not be eating , just to get to my minimum of calories on the end of each day.

Most rawfoods are so low on calories , that my question is ,

Do you guys have any tips on high calorie healthy foods?

avocados, nuts... to name two. there are lots of raw athletes out there... you don't have to eat SAD food to maintain your muscles!

Also if you google the Thrive Diet. This is a book written by a raw/vegan triathlete. He has a lot of great recipes.

Go to YouTube and check out "Zenkahuna". He's mostly raw, certainly vegan as is "CoachTara" (the one you'll find on the 'kahuna's channel.)

nut ANYTHING... soaked and ground 'porridge' (soaked grain breakfast cereals)... put LOTS of nuts in your smoothies-- makes them creamier anyway... avocado 'milk' shakes. Smoothies and shakes can pack a huge nutritional punch and aren't a much different concept from mixing up a protein shake... (except for being waaay better for you)

I've done p90x and those types of things on raw for years with NO ill results. Of course, I think I am the only person I know who can go from SAD to raw and actually GAIN weight... :)

Get your good fats in, always. A person who is athletic NEEDS the fuel... don't be afraid to eat.

Oh... and planning ahead is a must. If you're ravenous after a workout, MAKE SURE you have stuff already made on hand so you do NOT break. Get into a routine. Soak your grains for the morning the evening before-- make pate and sandwiches and wrap them in plastic/put them in your bag...

In a pinch, have some 'ready made' escape plans available. If you live near a Whole Foods (which I don't-- boohoo), you're GOLDEN. In some of them, they have a raw food bar/restaurant. It's just as easy to go there as to go to a pizza joint.

Fruit. That's where the majority of your calories should come from regardless of which type of raw diet you're on. At least that's what you're striving for once you've been raw for awhile. Dense liquid meals such as smoothies, soups & puddings will usually fill you up the most.

ooh... forgot... CHIA.

Chia is ESSENTIAL. It's a terrific 'warrior' food.

chia has so much omega 3 i think you could "overdose" in terms of not having a proper w3/w6 balance if you eat chia all the time.

if i wanted to get a lot of clean calories in on a raw diet i would be going with shelled hemp seeds. hemp seed is a very balanced food.

I can't do a lot of fat, even if it is raw. So I eat lots of fruit, but I'm not a hundred percent, I do plant starch too.

I had the same problem and lost a lot of weight I didn't want to loose when I went raw. My first mistake was that I wasn't training when I started raw, after starting again I started to gain weight back.

High calorie raw foods are as mentionned by others: nuts (most have almost 1000 calories per cup), avocadoes (about 300 calories each), oils (2000 calories per cup).

I try to use a lot of walnuts even though they are probably my least favorite nut because they are high in protein (as much as meat) and inexpensive. Blended with other foods like in smoothies or with spices for "meat" balls you can't taste the walnuts anymore.

Yep! Fat is great, but it can weigh you down.

Dr. Doug Graham wrote a book about athletes eating raw. But I can't remember the title.......... You should check him out on Youtube. Guy is well into his fifties and ultra ultra fit, like an Olympic gymnast.
