I need some help. My grandfather just dropped off a massive amount of mustard greens from his garden. I want to use them, but am not crazy about the intense taste. What can I juice them with or mix them with to make a green smoothie that will mask the strong mustard taste?

I've had luck using just 1 mustard green leaf at a time in my regular green smoothies. I haven't tried juicing them.

Personally, when I have an abundance of greens that I know I cannot use up while they're still fresh - I freeze them whole. Then when completely frozen, I simply smoosh up the bag they're in breaking they all into little frozen bits. I use these bits later on in my smoothies.

Good luck - those mustard greens do pack a wallop! *Ü*

Bananaberrie, thanks for posting this because I too am wondering about how to use mustard greens on RAW. I can't wait for others' ideas!

Deb, I didn't know that you could freeze greens and then blend them into GS, since greens get all funky when they are frozen and then thawed. But I now realize that since they are going into the blender, it doesn't matter! This makes a LOT of sense and will save me a lot of time in the future!!! Thanks for the idea!

You're welcome! (Plus it's just down right FUN to smoosh the frozen greens into bits... I've got some spinach in the freezer right now. We planted a lot of greens last year and while I didn't have enough to freeze, that's what I was going to do with them if I had enough.) *Ü*

I use mustard greens in my morning green juices! You can still taste them but it blends well. This is what I use:

Mustard greens 1/2 head
Kale 1/2 head
2 carrots
1 apple
1/2 lemon
1/4 Jalapeño
3-4 stocks of celery
fresh garlic
fresh ginger
orange (optional)
dash of sea salt.

Yummm!

1 mustard green leaf
1 collard green leaf
handful of spinach
1/2 of avocado
1 banana
1 cup green tea
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
ice cubes.

roll them up and then slice thinly crosswise (chiffonade). do the same with some collards or kale or chard. mix together and eat with tahini dressing

For all y'all who only marginally like mustard greens, you might really enjoy mizuna. I've not seen it in stores but it's easy to grow, indoors even. Has the zesty flavor and light heat of a mustard green, but seems pleasingly milder than a broadleaf.
