What is up with that. I mean I know eating raw will help bust your immune system, so why do I feel like I have a cold! Okay, so there are a bunch of terrible stuff going around right now and most of the kids at my church are having 103 temps. My kids have caught a mild version, but no 103 temp yet. My hubby was in bed for the past 2 days sleeping it off, but I was sure I would not get it. But now here I am feeling weak and wobbley with my sinuses full of gunk.
Help! Any tried and true raw concoctions. How often do you guys get sick? Or is it just me?

Hope you feel better! Being sick is no fun, I'm sure. I actually don't get sick very often... I do eat Garlic regularly, which I feel contributes to staying healthy.
Are you detoxing? That may be why....

I don't think so. I've been between 85-100% raw since the end of December, unless it just might be a really delayed detox. Plus since flu and cold is going around I figure I just finally caught it.
I seem to be doing better then my hubby did. I'm sure my raw diet has a lot to do with that. Maybe it will be short lived

I have been 100% raw since Oct. 2010 and still am probably still detoxing. In the past couple of months I got sick twice with a cold (nothing major but stuffy nose, cough, etc.). My body was dealing with detoxing, readjusting and on top of that I had been around 10+ people that were really sick. I wasn't surprised to get sick and just rode it out. What helped out a lot and cleared me up was adding extra fresh ginger, garlic and hot peppers to my green juices. I also added one more green juice to my day along with Elderberry and vitamin D extracts. Hang in there and understand that your immune system is being attacked by many bugs right now - it can only take so much. Hang in there! :)
Hope you start feeling better soon!

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Try Alissa's Lemon Ginger Cayenne shot, she say's it'll "cure what ails ya! Great for a cold, or for helping a detox!"
1/4 cup of water (optional)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
Pinch cayenne (use as much as you can tolerate!)
Place all ingredients in a small glass and blend well.
Also if you have body aches, increase your Pineapple intake. I think Whoa told me to use it to help my body aches from P90X...but body aches are body aches, so it may help.
Feel better soon! :heart

I get sick also.
Stress decrease your immune system.
Lack of sleep etc...
Lack of exercise (your lymphatic system can only work with exercise to circulate such a gently rebounding)
When you sense something is coming take oregano oil (mix with 50% coconut oil) and garlic. Very powerful and it works.
I had to do a tune up with my body. I did a detox program from the simplyraw.ca book and it energized me and gave me such a boost of energy. People around me has been sick and including my child and i have been ok.
Also while doing my detox, part of the thing that i had to do was to get a colonic. Beleive it or not, my sinusite cleared up right of way. I heard that doing a colonic prevent from being sick but now i am a believer.
Healthy animal also get sick and get desease, this is part of life
The difference from this raw life style is that we don't get those none sense sickness.
Hope you feel well soon
In 4 years being raw, I haven't been sick outside of episodes that are clearly detox... EXCEPT recently when I had a few days of not eating raw (my brother-in-law passed away, and during the epic funeral/mourning, there was very little sleep and no raw food)... then I ended up mostly raw but eating a little of this and that for another week or two. Finally I caught the sore throat going around. I was in bed, unable to even stand up for more than a minute or 2, for 5 days.
Never again!
I will water fast if I have 3 days of no raw food. It's not worth it. I've become such a pansy about this whole "being sick" thing. Never, never again will I deal with a cold, a flu, any of that silliness. For the birds, I tell you!
But, I will say... if you are somewhat new to raw (are you?)... you still have to go through some detox before your immune system is as strong as it WILL be.
And of course, stress, pH balance, sunshine, exercise, all that good stuff factors in. Raw food is just awesome, but it's not a cure-all...

Hope you feel better.
Even superman was susceptible to kryptonite so don't be hard on yourself. :) Whether it's detoxing or just getting the flu, getting sick is your body's way of ridding itself of unnecessary toxins so be thankful for the opportunity and make the bets of it.
Oil of Oregano is the bomb when you get sick. Bar none the best remedy I've ever tried...and I've tried a lot. It will knock it hard and instantly. Best of luck.

I agree with oil of oregano... great for nasty colds/ flu. If it detox though, it may make symptoms worse temporarily, as it brings on detox in itself from killing yeasts/bugs/virus, etc.

Thanks everyone for you kind words. I actually feel better now then I did earlier this morning. So I don't think this cold bug will have me down for long.
Maybe it is a bit of detox and a bit of a cold. I have upped the amounts of juicing and green smoothies the past couple of days so maybe that might cause a detoxing effect?
mcster I really enjoyed the superman analogy. Thanks and I will be trying the oregano oil too.
I am positive that if it weren't for my raw food diet this cold would be much much worse!

It took a month of 100% raw food before I started detoxing...then oh my...I was hit hard...10 days in bed feeling like I was dying....I fasted during this time...my partner was forcing me to even drink water...even that didn't sound good. After the 10 days though, I was back to normal.
I've been raw for almost 8 years now and during that time, I have had a cold/flu once a year. I noticed that the cold/flu affects me less and less every year and last year I didn't even get the cold/flu. Yay! Hopefully, I won't get it this year either.
I see detox as going through a dark tunnel with a very bright shiny happy light at the end.

Thanks, this is very interesting. I have been raw for more then a month, but haven't really seen any weight loss, so maybe my body is very slow in reacting. I did feel great the first 3 weeks or so of going raw, but then just started to feel more "normal" and didn't notice the awesome feeling that I had had previous weeks.
Anyway, I will be juicing later today and using some of your advice by juicing lemon and ginger in my afternoon juice the cayenne pepper is way too much heat for me. I've always been a whimp that way.
