Hello,

Anyone have a recipe for Raw brownies? Also since I have a bunch of Carob powder, feel free to throw out some recipes with carob as an ingredient. Thanks

I can't take credit for this recipe as I found it on the web so I'll post the recipe as well as a link to give credit where credit is due. I've made these quite a few times. I don't normally eat sweets (maybe once or twice a year, tops) but these brownies are in a different category altogether. Here's the recipe:

Raw Brownies!

Ingredients (use vegan versions (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=15403.0)):

1 cup ground pecans
1 cup dates (not soaked)
1/4 heaping cup cocao powder
1 heaping teaspoon agave nectar

Icing:
1 tablespoon coconut oil or coconut butter
1 tablespoon avocado (optional)
1 tablespoon agave
1/2 tablespoon cocao powder

Directions:

1) Process the brownie ingredients. Press into a pan or bowl.

2) Now process icing ingredients. If you use the coconut oil right out of the jar (firm) it should get very creamy in your food processor. If you do it by hand, warm up the oil jar in a bowl of water and use it in liquid form.

3) Spread frosting onto brownies and refrigerate for at least ten minutes. Slice and enjoy!

Source of recipe: I came up with this recipe after a few tries.

Makes: 2 to 4 servings, Preparation time: 20 minutes

Link to recipe: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=26419.0

The link also has comments from people that have tried the recipe. It's usually worth it to read through them to find out how they liked the recipe, what ingredient substitutions they used, etc.

Enjoy!

Do a banana search for RP or Raw Priestess Brownies.

They are so so simple and delicious.

Carob and Almond milk make for an excellent milk shake ( I leave my pulp in)

Also Carob food processed with dates and coconut oil then rolled into balls and covered in raw coconut flakes are delish. Like an Inside out mounds bar or add bits of "RAW" almonds for an Almond Joy bar.

Oh some just make carob pudding with avocados and carob, might need a sweetner (maple syrup, agave, dates)

:woot:Enjoy

I haven't tried Raw Priestess's brownie recipe although I remember it getting RAVE reviews!

At our last Raw Food Meetup, a friend demoed Jennifer Cornbleet's brownies (http://www.suite101.com/content/healthy-party-food-recipe-a144768)and I was sooo impressed. *Ü*

I've been trying to figure out how to measure dates. If a recipe calls for one cup of dates, do I just fill a measuring cup with as many dates as I can? Is there a certain number of dates that make up one cup?

Yes, that's what I do - I just fit as many in there as I can. I do not go out of my way to cram them in there though.

I'm a big fan of weighing vs measuring. Lots of times I'll measure it and then make a note on the recipe what it weighs (in grams) and go by that in the future. But, I'm a real "recipe follower", lots of people aren't. *Ü*

I made brownies off the cuff once, and they were good. SAD friends said they were EVEN better than cooked brownies!! they are super simple too!

200g nuts, i used 100g walnuts, 100g brazil nut. (I think it's better with oily nuts)
200g medjool dates
3-4 Tbsp cacao powder maybe more if you want it really chocolatey!
honey/agave to taste
pinch of salt

Put nuts in food processor and process until resembles bread crumbs.
add a few dates and start the machine then drop in dates one by one.
next add the cacao and some honey/agave and continue to process. it should be turning into a dough like consistencey.
check for sweetness and add more honey/agave if require and add pinch of salt and continue to process, adding a little water so it looks like a stiff batter.
when the batter is smooth and meets your taste requirements, scoop out into a dish, smooth down and let set in the fridge for at least a couple of hours, over night is better.

These are very rich and have that satisfying gooey texture a true brownie should have!

Thanks!

I'm curious, what do you measure by weight? I would think scooping an ingredient into a measuring cup would be quicker than adding an ingredient until a specific weight has been reached. I'm sure it makes sense for some ingredients, I just can't think of any! My mind is drawing a blank!

I made these today and they were very good. (Raw Priestess recipe) I googled her name and saw that she died this past august. Very sad, she had some good posts here.

That's what I did and it came out amazing. You really can't go wrong if you are short one or two dates or put one or two extra in. I didn't even wait for the frosting. This recipe was incredible!
