Hi Im looking for a recipe of some kind of easy to make hemp bar or hemp bread. :) Something I can pack in a lunch and take to work. I have a dehydrator, and basic blender, and some hemp seeds. Any tips anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated! Oddly enough taste isnt that important. Im just looking for something that will preserve all the nutrition in the hemp seeds, can be easily carried in a bag to work, and isnt to complicated to make. Thanks :coolbanana

Hi!
I don't have a dehydrator, so in bars that I make I use dates for about 1/3 of it to stick them all together. :) Hemp seeds are pretty tasty with just about anything, I like to pair them with chocolate and goji berries. Try picking your favorite ingredients, blending them up together and sticking (or freezing) them into bars.
Here's a recipe from the rawon10 (http://rawon10.blogspot.com/)blog:
Hemp Seed Truffles
serves 3 ~ $1.51 per serving
1/4 cup walnuts ($.50)
6 tablespoons hemp seeds ($2.34)
1/4 cup goji berries, soaked and patted dry ($.80)
1/2 cup raisins ($.50)
2 tablespoons sesame seeds ($.40)
This is another super simple way to get a bit of extra protein. It makes a sweet, nutty, and just slightly spicy "power truffle."
Add all ingredients to a food processor fitted with an "S" blade. Process for a few minutes until the mixture starts sticking together. Use a tablespoon or small scoop to form into balls.

Ah thank you so much =] That sounds really tasty and very simple. I had some ideas for another kinds of bars but had no idea how to get them to stick together. I never would have thought of dates! haha. I'm going to try to make these first thing tomorrow.
I checked my recipe file and found this one: Raw Food Dessert Brazil Nut Cookie Dough Bars
2 cups ground hemp seeds
2 cups ground Brazil nuts
1/2 cup raw honey
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla powder
1 tsp nutmeg
pinch sea salt
Combine all ingredients in bowl and knead and massage until dough is formed. Flatten in pan and cut into 1 inch square bars. Put in freezer until firm. To store keep in freezer.
You can always put dough in the refrigerator for a few hours then roll out and cut with cookies cutters into fun holiday shapes.
Can dehydrate and they will be chewy.

Thank you for sharing that Debb =] Those sound good too. Ive never seen raw brazil nuts though. Where can I get something like that? The health food stores around here don't have them raw =/
Hi ICT ~ I place an order every month through Azure Standard (http://www.azurestandard.com/). You might like to take a look at it. I order so much through them. It's out of Oregon and it's a bulk & natural foods source, they carry many organics and some raw too.
I order most of my nuts & seeds through them, along with many many other items that I can get either less expensive than my health food store or items that my HFS doesn't carry.
You can request a free catalog. I took a quick look and it looks like they deliver to Kansas City (they have their own truck route - and then you go and pick up your order at the drop point once a month). If your order is a minimum of $50, there's no delivery charge.
I love ordering through Azure - I don't know what I'd do without them.
I do order our Brazil nuts (raw) through them. *Ü*

Thank you so much =] I've been looking for a place to buy bulk. I just requested a free catalog :D I love how helpful everyone is here. I'm not a big nut eater simple because they are too expensive raw. Hopefully I'll be able to buy some now =]
I am SO hooked on Azure ~ I order things besides food items, like essential oils, cleaning products, supplements, the list goes on...
But, what I wanted to say is that many of us have posted that we store the nuts and seeds in the freezer. That's what I do as well. I like soaking (overnight), rinsing well and then dehydrating a quart or so of the nuts and seeds that require soaking (to release their enzyme inhibitors). That way I have nuts & seeds in my "staple stash" all ready to go for a recipe.
I learned about having a Staple Stash from Rene Oswald (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSCv-39TWvE)on YouTube. That's where I learned to actually sprout my sunflower seeds (Azure buy) before dehydrating them.
Yes, we're a friendly bunch - so, ask away! *Ü*

Hi ICT,
If somebody hasn't mentioned it before look for Adam Hart's Powerbar video on youtube. It's brilliantly instructional. It inspired us to make a range of homemade energy and protein bars with hemp.

don't know about bars, but i blended shelled hemp seeds in a vitamix and then mixed them with a small amount of honey ( just enough to glue them together into a wax-like substance ) - it tasted AWESOME.
unfortunately such a treat is LOADED with calories (plus it is impossible to stop) which is why i don't make it any more.
you could probably take it to work in a little pyrex or rubbermaid container and eat with a spoon.
ps: you don't have to blend the hemp but if you don't you will only be able to taste the honey. blending helps to release the taste of the hemp and make honey taste less obnoxious.
