I sometimes get my blood tested by calling in to my husband's brother who is in Haematology in the hospital. He arranges to have my blood taken and then he supervises the test.
They have tightened things up at the hospital so now I need to go to a local doctor's office to have the blood taken and I refuse to do that. I have something against going to a doctor office here. Maybe bad memories or just bad vibes.
I am going to Tampa tomorrow and want to have a blood test done while I am there. Does anyone know the best way to get a complete blood profile.
My friend google is not being very helpful on this.

I have also had bad experience with doctor and the medical system, but you must give them what they are good at. Doing blood test, is without question their field. Are you sure you don't want to go that route. You just have to leave what they have to say about taking medication but get the diagnose.

I wish you that you find what you need

I don't have personal experience with this lab, but Paul Nison recommends Dr. Shandl whom he has interviewed on his Raw Life Health Show.

Here is the website to his lab:

Thank you for the response. I had blood taken in Tampa a few days ago and am waiting for the results.

Yeah, contact a Naturopathic doctor, they are more user friendly!

I know that this thread was resurrected by a spammer but it has reminded me about my blood test and I do not recall if I updated you on the results.
I scored well on everything with the exception of a few minerals that I was a little low on (but just a little) and I feel that that may have been due to the fact that I was over-hydrated. They told me to hydrate well and of course I overdid it.

Hi Mary ~ I had blood work done and went over it with my doctor a few days ago. I was low and 'none detected' (beyond low) in several on my mineral panel portion too. I'm not crazy about taking 'more supplements', but that's what I'm doing - adding several to my regime. Hopefully not long term though. I'm hoping when my levels raise they'll stay there - like magic!

I was sad to see that my 'eating 1 Brazil nut per day for all my selenium needs' didn't work for me... (just to name 1 I was low in). *Ü*

1 Brazil nut? I'm eating like 10 per day :)

Are you doing it to get selenium? The info I've seen said to eat 1 for selenium, so that's what we've been doing. They're hard to find in the shell, I only see them at the holidays - so we stocked up. Obviously 1 a day isn't enough for me because I tested low... *Ü*

I eat them because of the high quality protein they contain and because they are very low on enzyme inhibitors (you don't really need to soak them).

Okay - thanks ~ ~ I was wondering if you ate 10 because that's what we needed for selenium. Brazil nuts are actually our favorite nut for making nut milk - so creamy! *Ü*

A little off-topic here, but Brazil nuts for making nut milk! I've never tried it! It's always been almond or cashew or sesame milk. Is the flavour of Brazil nut milk good as is, or do you add dates to sweeten it up? :)

And good to hear your blood test was quite good, sport! Sometimes it's nice to have medical validation that we're doing the right thing (raw foods) for our bodies; but on the other hand it's difficult if the test results aren't as favourable, like with Deb's. Then I start to question the chosen ideal levels, and wonder if one is so healthy with raw foods, if the levels are more biased towards SAD eaters. Like, if they are sub-optimal as SAD eaters, and this is what the testing levels go by, they need more minerals etc. to be healthy, and raw-ers need less! Therefore, with this little theory, standard testing levels wouldn't be so appropriate for us!

I could be wrong, but this way of thinking sure makes me feel a little better!

According to cronometer 2 brazil nuts per week would give me enough selenium.

I did not see selenium on my report so I guess that they did not check for it.
I was a little low on Sodium, Chloride, Calcium and my red blood cell count but not seriously low on any of them so I am not going to supplement.

Hi green goddess ~ Yes, we do sweeten our Brazil nut milk with dates (and some vanilla) - but we do the same for almond milk as well :)

One thing I really like about my (holistic) MD, is he crosses out the lab value numbers (optimal range) and writes in his own. I'm not concerned about the minerals I was low or deficient in since I'm supplementing, but I don't think they'd be any better and would more than likely be worse if I didn't eat as well as I do.

I figure it all goes back to what we hear so much about and that's mineral depletion in our soil. I'm going to call around to our local gravel pits and see if they sell rock dust mineral this year to add to our garden soil. If not, I may see what it costs to order it. *Ü*

Looking at just the mineral profile portion that was run, the following were tested: chromium, selenium, molybdenum, manganese, cobalt, zinc, copper & magnesium. *Ü*

Would you not wonder why they tested you for different things to me. Can we ever get a full picture.
