I have been three weeks raw and have developed a UTI. It hasn't gotten terribly painful yet, but I want to nip it in the bud. Any suggestions???

BTW, a UTI is a Urinary Tract Infection in case you were wondering

Cranberry juice. If that doesn't work, then GSE.

I can't drink enough water or cranberry juice for mine when they hit. I count on cranberry capsules from the health food store. I never travel without them. They work wonders. Cranberry makes the bladder environment such that bacteria cannot adhere to the bladder wall.

I do not have a juicer. But I know that would work best! Should I try to blend the cranberries and then squeeze the juice through a cheese cloth? I'm willing to take desperate measures. Also, what's GSE??

Looks like I'll have to get the capsules. Hopefully my reliable local health food store will carry them.

They work pretty fast. Get better soon.

I take D-Mannose in powder form, it mixes well in liquids.

I have tried and tried (and failed & failed) to treat UTIs with herbs and such. For me, I've just never had success.

My (holistic & fantastic) doctor warned me not to mess around with a bladder infection as it can spread to a kidney infection. So - for this I go ahead and opt to take a round of antibiotics while taking probitiocs (not at the same time - I can tell you more if you're interested) and then I continue the probiotics for 3 days after the anti's are done. This too is done to his suggestion.

I'm ALL FOR treating it with herbs and such, I just wasn't able to beat it that way. I sure wish you the best though! (Cuz who "wants to" take antibiotics if they don't have to!) *Ü*

I've never had luck with cranberry, and i tend to get chronic UTI's from a functional bladder abnormality. Cranberry always irritates too much for me, and makes it worse. I use oregano oil to kill the infection, and slippery elm/ deglyzerinized licorice to soothe.

Cranberry,no sugar.
No sugar.
Lots and lots of water.
Grapefruit Seed Extract=GSE.
Goldenseal and echinacea
Massive immune support (medicinal mushrooms)
Strongest probiotics you can find.

Cukes, melons, =diuretics
Garlic if you like
Lots of greens, keep body alkaline
Aloe aids in infections
Even though honey is sweet, I would take some daily..antibacterial

Hope this helps...feel better

On a side note: the emotional connection with bladder is being pissed off or mad at something. Sometimes if one looks at what they might be, simply aknowledging it, makes it go away.

UTI's are the worst. I am sorry you are suffering and hope you begin feeling better soon.

What has worked for me is D-Mannose like an earlier reply had mentioned. I have been able to find it in capsule form and take it once a day. When I feel an infection coming on I take 3 capsules right away, then continue with them 3 times a day for a few days. D-Mannose supposedly flushes E-Coli out of your bladder. I think it works.

As for immediate relief. Baking soda works. Amazingly well. Just put a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water stir and drink. Then follow with another glass of water if you can. I have read to use different amounts ranging from half a teaspoon to a full teaspoon and to use anywhere from every hour to three times a day. Use your own judgment but I don't feel comfortable with more than twice a day. I am not sure of safety concerns.

Herbal remedies have worked in the past. Uva Ursi teas works great, very strong tasty but powerful medicine. (Capsules have not given me results)
Cornsilk tea has a great astringent effect and Marshmallow Root helps soothe and heal tissue. There are many other great ones, horsetail, lemon balm, nettles, dandelion leaves to name a few. I favor cornsilk for regular use because it tastes pretty good and I can harvest my own buy just picking up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. You can also save for later use. Just lay the silk out to dry and then store in an airtight container. I don't save the brown dried up silk found hanging out the top of the ear, I just save the truly silky stuff that is left under the husk.

After all this I must say though that I wouldn't mess around for long with it. If I begins to get worse I would head to the Doctor's. Kidney infections are not fun and not very good for your body either.

You will feel better, lets hope by the time you read this you already do.

Uva Ursi capsules. More effective than any other supplement, food, or prescription and usually heals within a day or two. Though if you've had it for awhile it could take longer. I've dealt with UTI's my whole life and nothing else is very effective or takes a long time to work. This is cheap, easy & quick.

I don't have any experience with it, but I found this (http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/women5.php).

I hope you feel better soon!

I just went back and read your original post and something else came to mind.

You mentioned you have been raw for three weeks. Could you be drinking/eating alot of oranges? As much as I love orange juice, love love love orange juice, when I drink too much I will notice candida symptoms (itching and burning down there and sometimes all over itching) AND my bladder will get irritated.

You may want to look at your diet and see if something may be triggering this response. Spicy foods, caffeine and citrus seem to be culprits for many people. I believe lemons, limes and grapefruit are fine, just not oranges.

And as others have said probiotics are important if the underlying problem is candida. They also will keep candida at bay if you are ingesting them regularly and in a high enough quantity. If you choose bottle form I think you should start with something like a 50 billion number to get things back in order.

Be sure to let us know how you are doing and what has worked for you. It seems as though quite a few of us are still working on the prevention aspect and would like to be done with UTIs forever!
