Hello! My name is Christina and I hail from Canada. I'm 32 and live with my fiance, our 4 spoiled cats and an adorable puppy.
I've been raw for 4 days now and am very happy with this new way of life. I feel as though my body and mind are waking up for the first time in my life.
I have been overweight for most of my life. I managed to lose 65 lbs 3 years ago doing the low carb diet. Unfortunately, that weight loss came with a price. After 1 year, my weight loss halted completely. In the next year, I became sicker and sicker. My hair started to fall out, I became severely vitamin deficient and I had chronic heartburn. I was still trying to lose the last 15 lbs but just couldn't continue eating that way. It was clearly unhealthy.
I gradually started to increase my carbs and that stopped the hair loss and some other problems. I switched over to a "healthy" SAD diet, but still didn't feel as good as I knew I could. I was having trouble with digesting meat and was debating going vegetarian to see if it helped.
Anyhow, while I was at the library last week, I came across a book on eating raw and spent the weekend reading. I was amazed! I went grocery shopping, dusted off the food processor and dove in.
I have to admit that the first 2 days were a little rough, probably because I went 100% raw right off the hop. I had a horrible headache and felt weak. My tummy wasn't too thrilled with all the fiber either...lol! Today though, I woke up feeling great! I am energetic, have lost 3 lbs and feel so light (not weighed down after eating like I used to).
I'm getting a dehydrator tomorrow, so I can make some of the yummy recipes here.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Christina

You are doing very well.
There is only one rule in the beginning and that is that there are no rules. Eat what you want as long as it is raw until you get your body accustomed to it and then you can start to get to a healthier place and modify your diet.

Thanks for the welcomes!

It's been hard to switch over to that way of thinking, due to counting carbs for so long. I feel so free right now. It's nice to be able to listen to my body and eat when I'm hungry and always feel satiated. My body is humming along right now, like a well maintained vehicle :woot:
