I'm day 17 100% raw....I'm exhausted. I feel like I could sleep forever. I'm crying a lot. I have zero motivation. I thought I was supposed to have a lot of energy. I don't have much of an appetite either.. but I make myself eat.
I have a green juice (usually with kale, cilantro, apple, ginger, carrot, lemon) or I have a smoothie (which ranges from anything with a nut milk to just fruit with some greens). I drink plenty of water. For lunch I kind of snack.. I eat a couple dates, some raw cereal (made with buckwheat), goji berries, random stuff.
For dinner I have a salad or another smoothie or a raw dessert.. like the other day I had avocado pudding to make sure I was getting enough fats.
I basically want to curl up in a ball under covers and not come out. I feel incredibly depressed and drained.
Am I doing something wrong... or is this normal?

It sounds like detox to me too. I would definitely give my body the day under the covers if at all possible. Also, take a box of tissues or a roll of tp with you. If you want to cry, let it out! There were many of these days for me. You will make it through to the other side and feel so much better than you have ever felt. In hindsight it will be worth going through it, even if it doesn't seem like it now. Hang in there! :hug

You poor thing. The detox has taken a hold of you! But soon you will be back on top, just keep remembering the reason you feel this way is because you are getting so much nasty stuff out of your body. There's no better way to get nasty stuff out , so you've got to do it this way, and soon it will be over. It sounds like you've got emotional stuff coming out as well! Treat your emotions as if they are also toxins! Just remember you are getting them out right now! Getting RID of them! I would also suggest during this time to not be hard on yourself in ANY way. Allow yourself to do WHATEVER you want as long as you are continuing raw so you can continue to cleanse.
I hope you start feeling better soon!!! you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself!!:excited:

Try some maca powder in your juice for a few days. It is good for balancing out your hormones. You could experiencing a detox during a particular hormone level in your cycle.
If you are at all hypothyroid, you may want to lay low with using goitrogenic foods.
Goitrogens inhibit proper thyroid function.
All the brassica family: ie, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, soy, peanuts, radish
Not saying to not eat them at all, but to limit intake.
Note: When you feel sleepy (lethargic), depressed, not motivated, crying, and if you feel your concentration is bad, and dry skin, you may want to consult with a Doctor about your thyroid levels. Checking all t3,t4, TSH.
I was born with a non-fuctional thyroid and when my levels are not right...I exhibit the same. However, detox is not out of the question, it just may be happening together, or just detoxing.
Better out than in! Often these emotions were not being expressed, and instead we shoved them down with food like pasta, chocolate, cheese, whoknowswhatelse... When you go raw, there is nothing to stuff anything down with. We're just stuck with what is.
OMG, I had QUITE the emotional detox about a month after going raw. WOW. I smashed a TV, which is funny because I am SO FUN-LOVING and SO NON-VIOLENT and HAPPY. Not a TV smasher.
But it's all OK! Sometimes you just have to run with the emotions, the sadness, anger, whatever... so you can run with the joy you will have when you have freed yourself from those emotions!

let me ask you this philosophical question - are you willing to die to become healthy ?

ya right it's not detox. It's 17 days, you probably have adrenal issues, or something. How sad people are telling you "it's detox" when it's not. These people aren't medical experts
Wow that was negative. Are you a medical expert?
KellyAnn, not sure what your diet was before eating strictly raw, or if you are 100%. When you stop eating processed foods especially which are full of harmful and unnecessary ingredients your body will start to remove these chemicals that are stored in your tissue as well as sugar(which to me is a drug). You will not feel good as these chemicals are circulating in your body. Keep up the fresh foods and get some good rest to allow your body to function properly. :)

Hey Kelly I hope things get better for you soon! I remember right after I went raw I felt FANTASTIC! Then a few weeks later I felt kind of like you did. Very lethargic, depressed. A lot of old emotions and things I hadn't thought about in years came to the surface. I started hating my self for things that happened a long time ago, and I ended up relapsing to SAD and I'm still struggling to go raw again, but doing so didn't really make me feel any better. As was stated, none of us are medical experts, but we do care about each other! I say to try to fight through it! If in a week or so things are worse I would definitely talk to your doctor. To me it sounds like a very rough detox, but you never know. Each person is different. I wish you all the best though! And I hope in a few days you are feeling better then ever!:hug
