PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!

There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.

And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!

Here's my commitment: (when I'm fasting - at this time I am not.)

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.

Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.

We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!

Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

I am fasting to heal from an unknown. I am fasting through grief.

The past couple days have been juices through the day and a meal at night. I know when I last fasted I needed to work myself into it and I believe that's what is happening now and I am choosing to go with it.

I would like to continue to work through to feasting/smoothies (we'll see where the mood takes me) and fast through the rest of my 33rd year which including today will be 22 days. This is becoming important to me as I did not accomplish what I wanted in my 33rd year and I don't want to fall into the deapths of self-pity and self destruction.

WOW - I sound the downer!! I'll do a little dance for me and my decision and to put a smile on my face!!

I am fasting because I love me and I am worth it!! :cheer:

I've been away from fasting for a little while now, and I'm going to be involved in intermittent fasting. I have some days off this week, so I will do a three day juice fast. :)

I will be able to do this every week for the rest of the month (Jan & Feb).

My reasons for fasting:

to feel light and energetic
to release old habits and embrace new ways of thinking/being

to cleanse myself of impurities (emotional and physical); to be a clean vessel
to experience more clarity. to be as receptive as pssible to the wisdom that speaks through all things

I think I'm going to really enjoy drinking juice for three days a week. :D

EDIT:

ps. Shine, I really love your reasons for fasting. I'm glad to be here with you. (and everyone else too!)

Shine, I edited the poll... so you can click on that if you choose.

I am here... walking beside you even when I'm not fasting. I am here... holding the Light... shining my soul into yours.

And...

I am here because *I needs it... I wants it... I loves it... you knows I does... you knows it... and you loves it too... myyyyy precious*

I should have read everyone else's comments before I voted, or I would have also checked the "I'll tell about it" button and included closeness to God as my intention.

So far my current fast is just partially successful. I can go all day with just smoothies, all raw, all good stuff, but evenings still get me. It's not as intense, but it's still not raw, not fasting, not the best for my body, but it's a fraction of what my "normal" is. I'm one of those on-again, off-again raw-ers, due to food addictions and emotional eating. And when I'm not raw, it's NOT healthy. I only just started this fast, but I've already dropped a lot of water, feel lighter and better. It doesn't seem to take long for my body to respond. I can imagine how I'll feel when I overcome the evening issues and become 100%.

I'm slowly ending a 4 day juice fast today ... instead of juicing all the morning fruit, I ate a few chunks of it ... and will do the same thing with the greens and veggies a bit today and tomorrow. Even tho the juice fast will be 'officially ended' I will most likely consume just juice for the first half of most days.

I will be water or juice fasting at least one full day (24 hrs) per week for the entire month.

I am fasting to bring some order to my life ... a step toward ease and tranquility. Fast days are 'my' days ... so I look forward to that time for me.

i like to wait at least a few days (if not longer) to add greens back into my body... i stick with easier to digest foods when i break my fast.

soft fruits... papaya, tomatoes then moving into other soft fruits and eventually to greens again. :juicy:

Ooooo.. I like the poll. Nice touch...

I'm doing mostly juices and green smoothies right now. I'm trying to stay all raw... fasting from cooked food for sure...

I love to fast because I feel closer to God.. Not that He isn't always here, but when I'm fasting I can hear/feel Him more. I'm more focused on Him.

I fast for healing in this body of mine. And to break food addictions.

I just LOVE fasting :woot:

I am feasting today to give my body a rest from heavy nut-based foods and for vitamin deficiency.

My body needs a break. I will feast for 10 days (at least). If it doesn't come out of my juicer, vita-mix (no nuts), water, or Rejuvelac I will not put it into my body.

Whew! That feels good! :juicy:

Woohooo Aleesha! Go you, you fasting machine you! An organic healing machine, that is.

Beginning my first fast ever tomorrow (unless you count raw as fasting, which it pretty much is..). It's going to be extremely rough and I think I am mentally prepared. I am doing this to FIND myself! And to detox. And to release a bit of weight. And to connect spiritually. And to feel empowered.... I can't just choose one.

End goal: I'm going to live at an eco-village for 2-3 months sometime in February, I'm thinking around Feb 15th. For many reasons (I won't ramble on here) I consider this the beginning of being who I want to be and letting go of a detached lifestyle. To be FINALLY connecting with the things I AM! I want this fast, actually, to be the beginning of all of it before I go. :D

The biggest challenge for me is finding things to do. Being a sufferer of G.A.D and social anxiety, I don't go around and do things... I don't have any friends to do things with either soooo that's what the focus is here.

My only rule is this: DO NOT GO INTO THE KITCHEN!!

Prep: 3 days raw, and before that a month of cooked gluten free.

I just finished a 2 day fast last night. Then went to hear DH play in the band he's in. It was an upscale place. Really nice atmosphere and wonderful people. It went great! While I was listening, I got the inspiration for some lyrics to a new song, so I have to get them on paper so DH can put music to them. One of his old coworkers from before his accident came with his wife and they were blown away with how well he plays and how great he looks and gets around. He told them about his diet and all the juice and smoothies, etc. Hopefully they will listen and apply it in their own lives!
Jay Kordich has a new juicer that just came out. (PowerGrind Pro) We're waiting to hear the reviews on it after it's been out a while. It's supposed to be a hybrid juicer that both extracts and grinds to get the juice. If it works, it could be pretty neat!
Have an absolutely fabulous day ya'll!

i had a horrid nights sleep... if you can even classify when i experienced as sleep. between my back and my tummy (had some raw garlic yesterday that caused severe bloating and discomfort).

i got up this morning and after caring for my critters i made myself some juice. i'm sipping some now... and the rest is in the fridge for later. i'm so happy to be fasting for the day.

(((hugs))) and :backhug to all the regulars... i love fasting with you all!!!

Hello all good to see so many ppl! I am on DAy26. Made the most glorious juice yesterday with two oranges 5 carrots one grapefruit and one apple. It was an orange paradise!

Im wondering whats going on though because the past few days I have been SO hungry. I had 5 quarts of juice yesterday which is A LOT. And I usually only have 4 but I had downed the first three by 11 in the morning. And i was feeling dizzy and tired and very weak in my limbs and almost passed out twice. Wondering If i am low in electrolytes? I just figured I would be getting every necessary thing since I am taking in loads of celery cukes and greens plus fruits. Aleesha do you have any thoughts? Did you experience this in your 200 plus days? Today seems much better but yesterday was rough I was craving everything junky and just felt miserable. (BTW I took a vitamin mineral liquid last night and this morning which may be helping me) Also I am supposed to be starting TOM any day now.

Thoughts would be appreciated!

you are probably going into a deeper space of healing and your body is needing the extra nutrients... so give it to it! more more more juices. don't skimp. some days i drank 8 litres!!! yup... just whatever my body asked for i did. it didn't usually last long... a few days and then i was back down to less juice again.

Rawlala
01-29-2011, 12:53 PM
OK great thank you Aleesha thats good to know! More juice sounds good to me:)

Aleesha Sattva
01-29-2011, 12:57 PM
that's why... when i'm fasting... i make 2-4 litres of juice in the morning and put it in jars. that way... between that, my young coconuts and my tom juice i had access to lots of juice. what i don't drink today i consume first thing tomorrow. :juicy:

I feel some old issues popping up- I dealt with anorexia in HS and today I felt the same guilt and almost a feeling of nothing matters all my efforts are ruined. Just because I drank an extra quart and a half of juice. It is frustrating, I am aware of it and that its wrong but the feeling is still lingering. I dont want to feel this way.

Releasing weight is very important to me in this journey but its not the sole reason Im doing this, if it were I know I would never make it. Still, I feel worried that my body just wont lose any weight while feasting but I know I cant fast right now either. EEEk

Brain mush.

anyone has some much more rational thoughts to add? I am ready to be done with this health and weight struggle- its been 7 long years and I just want to feel like my old athletic self. I love being able to do everything with my body and feel unencumbered.

Aleesha Sattva
01-29-2011, 06:14 PM
i'm a little concerned for you... with those thoughts coming up. gifting your body a time to fast isn't about depriving it... it's about gifting it the nutrients it needs to do the work that it needs to do.

i'd be 'coaching' you to break your fast is i was your therapist... or your fasting coach.

perhaps spend some time writing your thoughts down and see where they lead you? you don't want to revisit an eating disorder... :hug

i made a really nice tom juice for myself and ONCE again... opened the wrong side of the lid on the spice jar and dumped about 1/2 a cup of hot curry spice into my juice. LOL i scooped it out and enjoyed the juice but all my lovely curry wasted  made me sad.

Thank you for your thoughts Aleesha. I have dealt with these thoughts off and on throughout the years; they say you will always fight the old mentality even after beating an ED.

I am not ready to stop, just because I am doing this to beat PCOS and adrenal exhaustion and thyroid issues. I have waited so long to feel better that it is so important to me to heal- I dont know if I could regain motivation to feast if I stopped for awhile.

I am open to your thoughts and suggestions though:) I feel like a lot of this may be the storm that usually comes before my period- thankfully it has not been as bad as normal but I can still tell I am emotional and even thinking about a guy I have been feeling very OVER until the last few days. eeek.

Thank you for dialoguing with me-If youve got more perspective I welcome it:)

Aleesha Sattva
01-29-2011, 07:40 PM
one thing that's important to remember is... you have your entire life to fast. this is not the only time you can fast.

that said. i hear you on the 'being motivated now'. i find that i can fast for an extended period simply because my head is in the zone, my body is responding etc. lots of things come up for me while i'm fasting... and i believe they are released/healed (at least one layer of the issue) when they come up.

next time you feel guilt perhaps try reminding yourself that your greatest is what is truly important... that having more juice is nothing to feel guilt over.

i'm so glad you are sharing and having a conversation about this. i look forward to hearing other people's opinions/insights/suggestions. that's what makes this thread such a great space... we can all share our feelings and know we are not being judged for having them. (((hugs)))

Rawlala
01-29-2011, 07:48 PM
Thank you Aleesha I so agree about this being such a great space to get things out-
I feel like much of my feelings are working themselves away just by talking about it and hearing other opinions.!

I realized when the thought of ending the fast came up how much motivation and determination I do have for it right now; which is good because I had felt that perhaps I was wavering. Right now I feel like it is probable that getting over the hump of my period will have me back in that lovely space where days float by with ease. Since I have dealt with Polycystic Ovarian Disease my periods have been difficult and irregular so I imagine things are being released and realigned. This is the first period I have had since starting this juice feast.

YAY I feel more calm about things. I also spoke with my father who prayed with me and encouraged me to cast my cares on God. And that helps so much. I will move to LA when the time is right- I will model and act when the time is right. I will not be lead by pressure or fear or anxiety or deadlines. :) This is major for me as I have always been a very "driven" person.

And yes I too would love to hear other ppls thoughts about these things.

Aleesha Sattva
01-29-2011, 07:51 PM
rawlala, i have to be honest... i posted the "break your fast" suggestion for two reasons. first, to get you to consider doing it considering what you shared and second, to assist you to find out whether or not the fast was important to you. i know that when people suggest i break a fast and i'm really IN my fast... i get deeper in it and the space i end up in is so healing.

i'm so glad you found your truth. there is no one right truth... only the one that is right for you - in this moment - for your greatest good. *smiles*

I have had that reaction from time to time with beets, too. Don't know why, because it doesn't happen all the time.

Wow! Thanks!!!! I was beginning to really wonder!!! I wanted to juice some beets for extra iron, but I think I'll try 1/4 of it next time...

I forgot that I have a training Class to attend today for work and I'll be at the training center all day!!! So I'm doing the Lemonade all day because I have a central-frugal juicer (I think that's right) and it won't last all day if I do a jug of it. I actually find that easier to do. (if I had a juicer that I could juice everything for the day, I'm sure I would do that, but I don't, do I gotta do what's easier today cuz I wanna stay on my fast...)

Hey!!! I just thought if something!!!! I have a whole case of Thai Coconuts... I'm wondering if I could pop those open and make a gallon jug of that!!!!!!! OMG!!!! I'm a GENIOUS!!!!! :cheer: Can I do that??? Can I??? :juicy:

I've just finished day 7 of a 30 day juice fast, and I've finished the day with a juice of tomato, parsley, capsicum and carrot with a clove of garlic in it. I eat this in a bowl with a spoon and happily 'trick' my body into thinking it is soup. Which really it is... a raw broth.

IT'S SO YUM!!

Today's juices were peach and apple with a dash of lemon for breakfast. For lunch just plain orange juice (I was out and about with my local raw meetup group for a picnic), in the early evening it was coconut water and carrot juice (separate drinks) and then the 'soup' for a very late dinner.

Like raw, I never let fasting get in the way of my social life. Last night I went out with friends to dinner and got a juice from a juice bar along the way. I had a great time, and the owners of the restaurant even made me fresh juice in their thermomix, BONUS!

Today was the picnic at a national park, and I've realised I can go ANYWHERE and do anything while I'm fasting as I just take a long a small knife, a small plastic plate and my hand held plastic citrus juicer (and some fruit, but also top it up at the supermarket) and viola! I have juice wherever I am! Brilliant!

I'm fasting for a few reasons:

to learn more about myself and my limits (both mental and physical)
to detox
to just give my body a rest
to lose weight

It's been a really positive experience this time, I think the more we do this the better and more balanced we get at it. For me it really is a lot about mental evolution.

renee, great choice. i've done that myself many times!

kl, i ate from a bowl every day of my fast... of all my fasts. my tom juice (and sometimes my cantaloupe) are always consumed from a bowl with a spoon. mmmm good.

angela stokes often juiced with her teeth. she'd grab a grapefruit or orange and use her teeth to extract the juices and spit out the pulp. it's not the perfect way to do it (much like your citrus juicer) cause you will still get a little pulp but heck... WHO REALLY CARES! :dread: it's a creative and great way to stick to a fast is a not-so-stellar juicing situation. :encore:

i've done the teeth juicing in the past as well... worked like a charm!

Welcome FDoz:)

Water fasting is intense, that's amazing that you have done it before.

I have this theory about fast oxidizers and slow oxidizers- i think metabolic type really plays into whether water fasting is fairly smooth or whether it's hellish. I'm a fast oxidizer so I've always had difficulty with water fasting.

Aleesha Sattva
01-30-2011, 06:56 PM
it's documented rawlala... that fast metabolism makes water fasting harder than a slow metabolism.

but three days of water fasting isn't that hard to do. your body hasn't even reached ketosis yet. it's after about 5 days that it gets harder... at least in my experience.

Wow I wish it was that easy for me, always by the end of the first day I feel like I am dying. Seriously water fasting makes me the most miserable exhausted person.

Anywho today is Day 28! YAY. I have decided to make a mostly green drink so that I can have my mostly fruit drinks that taste so freakin good instead of half and halfing like I have been.

Yesterday I had 6 and a half quarts of juice, i was miserable most of the day despite drinking a lot of juice. Today i feel very different and betteer this morning, I think I may be able to get back into my groove with walking, skin brushing, hot cold shower, etc all of which i cared less about the past few days. I have been having the most ridiculous dreams about food and eating tons of crap. Every night for the past three nights I was sure I had broken my fast and felt really sad.

Rawala: this is quite the journey you are on. I wish you strength and health.

Today is day 1 for me. I've been over working myself lately and not sleeping very well.
I woke up this morning feeling very under the weather. back inflammation came back with a very sore throat.

I need to be here today, and am so happy to be here :)

started the morning off with warm water/cayenne/lemon/honey

then some frothy orange juice.

soon I will have a green drink and take it to town with me.

later today, i might make a nice pineapple/cherry drink.

I want to continue this juice fast as long as I can, but I will be working hard (physical labor) later this week, so i might break it, but only for solid fruit.

I hope everyone is having a bright morning. Happy Imbolc (even though it's tomorrow). light a candle and look for signs of Spring. ;)

Today is a smoothie day. Wish I had made an extra for work but I do have tea and water with lemon which I am contented with right now.

Smoothies, they do a body good!

That's not so great Aleesha, hope you aren't getting sick! :hug

I'm in a better mood today, yesterday I wanted to rip people's heads off, can't figure if it was the fasting, or my horrible day at work, or both!

Today I'll be opening some coconuts for water to take to work, my poor freezer is becoming chock full of pulp and coconut meat. This is definitely a new thing as these two things quickly get eaten or made into stuff usually. Tomorrow I'll be making stuff for my partner to get rid of it, and I'm sure I wont be tempted one bit!

Day 9 and I'm going really well, I've lost quite a bit of weight, and guess I'll be losing even more as I'm only a third through my fast.

Hope everyone else is going well!

Today was day 3 for me and I was doing great...until about 3:00pm...

I chose to break my fast today... It's been an incredibly stressful day and I just couldn't handle it. I really wanted to, but I was so stressed out and I was biting my kids' head off... So, I ate...Raw of course.

Anywho, I wish you guys so much success on your fasts!!! I'm sure I'll be back again to join you soon!!!! :)

Well, my tummy is crying out for a break so I'll be fasting tomorrow. Funny how I can go for a couple of days okay but then my tummy just wants a break again. But it's all good. I'm glad I can listen to my body so much better now and give it what it wants/needs.
I do feel like my digestion has gotten better, though. I hope I'm right. I'll find out in a couple more months.
Feel better, Aleesha. I've been having a lot of headaches lately, but I think it's all part of my body detoxing yet more nasty toxins so I am just going with the flow.

renee...posting your goals and then going with the flow is good on both ends. nothing wrong with having something you are shooting for and nothing wrong with finding that you aren't quite ready to achieve all of it quite yet.

It helps you achieve them, and if you don't, it's not like the lovely people here are going to say 'nyer nyer you failed!'. Build up the courage to put your goals out into the ether, and the strength to know you are human if you don't achieve them. We never fail, we only put off our inevitable success!

exactly!!! i didn't fast for 365 days... do any of you think less of me? if you do... i don't care :p cause i don't think less of me. i did what i could. when i shoot for a 3 day fast and make it one day... oh well... obviously one day is all i could do in this moment.

cause there's ALWAYS another time to fast. unless we die and then... who cares? we are fasting on the other side anyway!

nadien alexandra

This is a very comforting thought, and not just for the sake of comfort.

any achievement adds up to something, and it's something we could not have expected. It's all a step towards a "goal" that reveals itself one golden thread at a time. :)

klomasius
01-31-2011, 09:02 PM
That's how I see it nadien. ANY step in the right direction is a success, and I don't just say, that, it's how I think!

Cheerfully expect the worst, and then be chuffed when anything less than the worst happens!

Aleesha Sattva
01-31-2011, 10:48 PM
i'm the opposite... i cheer-fully welcome the best and embrace whatever gifts come my way.

i never expect the worst... that would take up way too much of my time and energy focusing on the bad... yuck.

02-01-2011, 01:24 AM
I hear you all! Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate all of you! I think I was talking through a stressful day! I had another coconut smoothie and I feel a lot better!

I also suffer from insomnia (but you prob knew that from the time that I post....). Especially because I work night flights. When I'm fasting I tend to sleep a little better, though... But only after I've been off for a few days. So, I'm off to sleep now!

Sweet dreams fasting family!!!!

klomasius
02-01-2011, 07:47 AM
Haha, Aleesha, I don't focus on the bad, I simply expect it but don't really put any brain time to it.

I see failure and bad things VERY different to others. It's a natural part of life, and good things are too.

Renee, I'm not an insomniac, but I semi deliberately stay up WAAAAYYY too late. Not good but the only time i have to myself really, and I NEED time to myself!

Just finished my dinner of 'soup' of tomato, basil, celery, red bell pepper, garlic and turmeric. Lovely! Except I spilt about a third of it all over myself and the carpet. Not so lovely. :(

Tomorrow is my DAY OFF! I get paid and I go to the market to get lots of fresh produce to juice! Yay! :excited:

Good Morning everyone!

I have a hard time focusing on the good but I do my very best. I think it comes from years of expecting the worst but secretly hoping for the best so if I got the worst I wouldn't be too disappointed but if the best happened :cheer: the best happened and I was happy. I still struggle with this but am working on it. Ahhh, growth!

Renee, I am hoping your day is a better one today. Sometimes I have a hard time fasting all day...it takes me a bit to get into the swing of things! So I figure, well at least I fasted for 10 hours today and I can start again tomorrow!!!

Nadien, I too have to work at being better prepared. I wasn't yesterday, knew I wasn't then got super grumpy and low in the afternoon. Today is a new opportunity and I am better prepared. Love making the mistakes that are easey to learn from!!

Klomasius,
ANY step in the right direction is a success I love this!:woot:

Aleesha,
sharing my goals... getting feedback and support assists me greatly... regardless of the outcome this has always helped me and I like how you start each fasting thread off this way. And each time I fast I can look back and see what I achieved from my list, and what I achieved that was totally unexpected!!

Even though I have been working toward a long fast, I have been fasting during the day and having something at night. Even just the day fasts have been aiding me and getting me to the junping off point....which is today!! I love the fact that today is a Tuesday and the 1st....just makes me happy.

Today is another smoothie day - and I am better prepared.

We are expecting 2 feet of snow tomorrow so I better make sure I have plently too juice in the days to come!!

nadien alexandra
02-01-2011, 10:27 AM
Lot's of snow is said to come this way too.

Last night was a loong chilly night. didn't sleep much. I've been down and out with a head cold. my head is cloudy, heavy and achy all over. ears ache, and throat feels really painful and scratchy, also lots of phlegm coming up from the depths!
nice to hear about hey?!

Today I am taking it real slow. only leaving the house for a short walk for fresh air's sake.

I am wondering what your favorite healing drinks are...

yesterday I had a lovely
-beet/carrot/ginger/celery/cayenne/swiss chard/dandelion greens juice.
I felt its healing power. I felt very grounded after drinking it. Something about those beets! the taste of earth!

today i have had:
-Siberian ginseng/dandelion/ginko/lemon grass Tea
-Pineapple/cherry Juice

and am thinking for later:
-tomato/garlic/basil..... something or rather Juice/Soup

can anyone suggest other things i should add to this drink/soup?

I love :heart:tomato/basil soup:heart: when it's cold and I am not feeling well.

It makes it easy to fast when you are sick because your body doesn't want to be full of heavy food. :)

Shine: Yea, I am learning more and more everyday, how to be prepared. It seems like I should know by now, but I guess it always changes from day to day, what your energy levels will be like, what your body will be craving, how hydrated it wishes to be, how much energy you will use up. Best to just assume you will need more and carry around extra juice and water. I've always carried around two pieces of fruit when I'm not fasting so why not carry around two containers of juice?

Renee: I have a very hard time getting to sleep, and your case is probably different from mine, but what has been helping me is deep breathing exercises (no more than ten deep breaths), doing a meditation laying down like a corpse, and drinking things like passion flower/Valerian/chamomile/lavender tea.

It's almost midday and I still haven't had any juice or even water. I only got up an hour ago (this is my day off, yay!) but my body is saying 'hang on, just give me a little time ok?' so I will.

Day 10 for me, and I'm absolutely astounded at how easy this one is! I think the more you do it the easier it gets!

I've had a pretty tough time of it outside of the fasting, 10 hour days at work (gotta get the overtime when it's available), writing and editing for my newsletter/mini mag, trying to help organise a benefit for animals affected by the Australian floods etc etc...

But the fast is the one thing right now that's smooth sailing, isn't that weird?!

And I want to talk about all the yummy things I'm going to make for my partner (and some for the freezer for when I'm off my fast) but I realise this is a fast thread and that's a bit of a no no! Haha!

Hope everyone is doing well, and remember, however many days you manage to fast is however many days more than you would have done if you hadn't done a fast!

By the way, have you all heard of the research that seems to indicate that fasting is as good as calorie restriction when it comes to extension of life and the slowing of the aging process? BONUS!!!! :excited:

Aleesha Sattva
02-01-2011, 07:28 PM
yes i've heard about that. i totally believe that fasting is really good for us in soooo many ways.

like today i went out and bought some NOT MOM jeans... and they are size 28. ohhhhhh yeah!!!

AND my spices came in today. makes me wanna do a fast. thanks cathy!!! (i order organic spices from cathy!)

nadien alexandra
02-02-2011, 02:32 PM
I've heard that it's totally better for you than calorie restriction.
plus, can you imagine restricting your calories everyday on a raw food diet that consists mostly of fruit?

you'd fade away!

Klomasius: wowowow. you're doing amazing. I find as well, that it does get easier, that I'm so much MORE interested in sticking with it the longer I've stuck with it, because the benefits become more and more everyday, like more energy, better sleep, happier disposition, brighter skin.....

Alessha, isn't it so wonderful to feel comfortable in your own skin? :throwhearts:

I'm very sick today with this cold/flu business. It's going around. my roommate is down and out with it too, and we know which friend it came from! but, this is giving me more time to be slow and quiet. I feel more inclined to meditate, I feel more inclined to observe myself, to close my mouth.

I'm still here juicing!

today i've had a few cups of tea,
pineapple/strawberry juice,
and
carrot/ginger/celery/dandelion greens/swiss chard/leek/cayenne pepper Juice

klomasius
02-03-2011, 05:25 AM
Nadien, that doesn't sound so good, but at least you are taking the time to do some meditative stuff.

I too feel like being meditative, but considering i have my kid, my mini mag deadline, my job and an out of control amount of housework at the moment, I just don't seem to get the time. As I type this I'm also doing editing stuff on some writing and sending emails about an event this weekend I'm helping with. Next week at least my son goes to his dad's and I can get back to getting everything in order!

There have been some great bonuses to this fasting thing in a non physical way, just before I sat down to write this I packaged the meat of three young coconuts and put it in the freezer! I have never done that! Coconuts get eaten immediately with me, I always think I'm going to save the meat an make some terrific stuff but it never happens, I drink the water then just scoop out and eat the meat straight. So I think I will have a fridge full of the stuff by the end (today is the end of day 11 of 30 for me now)!

Also, the veggie pulp is being frozen for later for crackers, but it just got too much for the freezer, so I pulled it out and made some unmentionables for my partner, which are in the dehydrator now. There will be many more unmentionables being made for him before this is over.

I haven't done anything with the fruit pulp except put it on the compost, it's a lot less volume than the veggie stuff, I guess because fruit is more watery, but I really should do something with it.

We will soon get a chest freezer as an addition to the small stand alone freezer we have which is nowhere near the capacity we need, especially with all the in season fruit around right now.

And sad news, a HUGE cyclone has once again wiped out much of the banana crop in Aust and we will be suffering through a banana shortage again. I just went out an bought $50 of them to freeze but the supply might be down for THREE YEARS they are saying! :( poor farmers too. This happened about 3 years ago and it took 18 months for the supply to go back to normal.

My but when it rains it pours. Received a phone call yesterday that my husband's grandmother died very unexpectedly in the morning. So driving to VA we go. I will try my hardest to fast while we are gone, but with a huge family and staying in an aunt's home I am making sure I have lots of fruit. Perhaps a clemintine "fast" will do. I would think one food would help to give the digestive system a rest.

So I'll be gone til Tuesday. Sending my best to ALL of you!! :heart

Hello all!
I havent been here in 4 days wowza. I have transitioned to the master cleanse and backed off on exercising. For a while I was feeling like I was on a Juice Diet with the feasting and it was messing with my head. I didnt feel like I do when I fast, where food is separate and far away and I have no interest in it. So I have moved into the mc and I feel very happy with where I am at. My motivation is stronger than ever. I may include some green juices at some pt to get some aminos. I plan and hope to go 30 days on the MC and then transition back into juices for 10 and then transition into smoothies and then off. :) Yippeee. I have even been googling some raw food restaurants in LA with much delight at all the options I will have near to me:)

I am here to fast for spiritual reasons. Finding a deeper space within my being.
I am here to fast for my Self.
I am here - hoping for support while I walk this path.
I am not here to end my fast on a hard day... I am here to fast mindfully and to break my fast mindfully.
I am open, willing, ready and able to breathe with purpose, to walk with purpose and to fast with purpose.

Go Aleesha!

Right now if I were to break my fast, I know it'd be with a bang! Maybe I will progress to a more civil manner as time goes by on this fast... ;)

SO EXCITED!!!

I just borrowed a Hurom juicer from a friend of mine (who has just come off his fast) and I tried it out just then. I made a lime, cucumber and orange juice and man, this thhing is FANTASTIC!!!!!

It's a slow geared juicer and doesn't masticate, rather crushes the fruit/veg. And the great thing about it compared with the Champion I have is that it juice greens efficiently. FINALLY I don't have to do fiddly stuff like chase the greens with a watery fruit or veg, and I can juice kale!

Because I have this, I'm now thinking of extending my fast from 30 days, not sure for how long though, what do others think?

nice to hear someone with a champion and then trying another juicer. it gives me a good idea where a juicer stands when i hear this. have you tried a greenstar? is it faster than using a greenstar?

my advice on the length of the fast is to take it one day at a time. it's the journey not the goal. just allow your fast to be 'extended' and keep a definitely goal blurred. keep the 30 days, when you get to it, perhaps extend it to 45. when you get there make it 60 etc.

It is truly amazing what you've done, especially breaking the fast gently and slowly. I cannot imagine how much discipline that would take!! Good for you for gifting yourself so wonderfully!! :heart

Our bodies lead us, if we are willing to listen. I knew what I could and couldn't eat. That's how I did it. If I tried something and it said NO then I made sure to eat really simply and not eat it again. I just took it one bite at a time. I had a few foods that didn't agree with me, but :woot: I did such a great job :cheer: that I'm beyond pleased! :wuv

So I woke up.... took my Arnica... brushed my teeth with MMS and now I'm swooshing some in my mouth. When a little while has passed I'll take my triphala and probiotics... drink some water and... I'M HERE... I'M FASTING AGAIN!!!!

i tired mixing coconut water with other juices and i never ever like it. i force it down but i don't enjoy it like i do coconut alone. i'm sipping on my first juice of the day... coconut water with cinnamon. mmmmm mmmmm good!!!

i did 30 minutes of rebounding, cleaned the kitchen - started on the bathroom and decided i didn't want to do anymore so i stopped LOL

i'm on my third litre of young coconut water with cinnamon. mmmmm so refreshing. it always surprises me that when i'm really meant to fast... it's just so easy to begin. when i find it a struggle during the first few days i know i won't fast long.

and right now... i'm bliss-filled.

oh and i'm wearing my new not-mom jeans.... ;)

You've done so great, Aleesha! I'm proud of you for breaking your fast so well! :throwhearts:

I will probably be fasting for a couple of days starting Monday. Tomorrow night is Super Bowl so I won't be fasting then! But I'll be ready to do so once that is over! Yippeeee!

Aleesha, I've never tried a Greenstar, I don't know anyone who has one and wonder if they may not be readily available in Australia.

How does the Greenstar compare with the Champion?

Today I'm so excited! I went out and bought a bunch of fruit and greens, chinese broccoli, romaine lettuce, endive, grapes, nectarines, celery, carrots, tomatoes etc. and will be juicing up a storm!

But right now I'm off to open up a couple of coconuts and suck down some coconut water, I have SO been looking forward to this! :excited:

p.s. Aleesha, keeping the stop date open ended is very much in keeping with the way I do things, I usually set an initial end date, and if i'm going well, the end date becomes fuzzy and the potential to extend is more and more likely. I think i will just leave it open. :)

Aleesha Sattva

the greenstar and champion are both great machines. the quality of the juice from the greenstar is higher. no doubt about that. but you patience level needs to higher as well.

my hubby uses the greenstar when he makes me juice. i tend to use the champion only because i'm usually making a tom blend and the greenstar isn't crazy about juicing a LOT of toms. a few it can handle but soft things tend to back up and take longer to get through.

but... i could probably do it if i took the time to. i'm just lazy. my champion does it quick and easy and so i use it for my tom juice.

i'm home from babysitting... feeling a bit tired and a tiniest tinge of a headache... happy to be fasting and welcome another day tomorrow!!!

I just started fasting. I'm struggling. I get hungry and my blood sugar gets low. How long does this last? I"m trying to water fast but have to work 3 days a week so I will juice fast those days. My work doesnt require that much energy but I want to be alert. Any hints? This is only my second fast. I was able to fast for 3 days a few years ago on coconut water but my blood sugar got pretty low a lot.

Lady Winday, remember to drink lots of fluid tomorrow to rehydrate your organs.

berry, fasting on water is the hardest fast you can do. perhaps starting with a green smoothie feast? have you done heaps of research on fasting? that's so important. knowledge is empowering!

i woke up this morning and my tooth is hurting just like it was near the end of my extended fast. remember? i thought it was an infection. i'm wondering if... it's healing from my injury.

when i was 11 i wiped out on a bike really bad. used my face as a brake on a gravel/cement road. i lost teeth, skin etc. so i'm wondering (since the pain is the same right now as december 2010) perhaps that's what is going on. i'm going to focus my energy on healing that old wound and see if it assists me.

of course, manuka honey will be swooshed... cause that seemed to help tremendously last time.

i slept well last night... two good nights under my belt now. ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Berry- I have some blood sugar issues at times as well. I've found that when I start having problems, adding small slices of avocado or banana really helps me. I've read it in fasting sites that tell about dealing with hypoglycemia and fasting.

Aleesha- That will be cool if it is your old injury healing! :excited:

Whoa- I've read about dry fasting and all I can say is WOW! You go! :cheer:

Fighting a bit of a head cold today but am taking echinacea, C, D and colloidal silver. Whenever I catch it right at the beginning, I can usually knock it right back out! DS was over with his new GF last night and he was getting a cold also... I gave him a big bottle of C so hopefully he'll take it and get over it fast.

Going to head for the sauna soon and then we'll be preparing to watch the Super Bowl... We aren't huge fans of football and don't watch it much, but we usually watch the Super Bowl... at least till it gets to be my bedtime and then I value my sleep more than football! lol

Aleesha Sattva
02-06-2011, 01:39 PM
but... let's remember that everyone is going to have 'low blood sugar' issues when they begin a fast. it's normal. your body is working on the remainder of the sugars in your body before it switches up and gets into full fasting mode. the issues you were experiencing missy is much different than normal fasting issues.

when we feel weak, taking time to sit down and rest is so important. just taking it easy... definitely the best thing we can do. ESPECIALLY when water fasting.

wow my mouth is sore. getting more swollen all the time. :(

i just had a lovely tom juice... i couldn't use my new spices yet... so i just used some cumin, kelp powder and took a shot of E3Live before i 'sipped' the tom juice with my spoon.

i'm doing a Bodytalk session today... that's in about 45 min.

so today i've had two litres of young coconut water, some yogi tea and some water ... and now the tom juice. probably have another coconut water later this evening.

Aleesha, I've been on a smoothie feast, thats how I gained 20 lbs. I'm seem to have a low metabolism and all this dogma that states you cant overeat on fruit and vegetables and 3000 calories a day, well it was overeating for me.

And it lead to bingeing as fruit without any fat lead me to never being satisfied and blood sugar issues. So now I'm cleansing and back to Alissa's ways which were working beforehand. To me smoothies aren't fasting really.

But it seems 48 hours has been my tolerance level to water fasting. I've read on it and know I need to go to 3-4 days really before the hunger will go. I'm also working on my addiction it seems to eating. I find I use eating to escape boredom and stress. So I"m probably going to bounce between water fasting and juicing. So far its been 2 days water fasting to eating a meal then back again. But I should try a piece of avocado if it gets too much or go to a day of juicing? Right now I have a headache, feel irritable, tired and having a difficult time drinking water as it tastes bad. Or should I try a MC or lemonade fast first? I just dont want to be out to lunch mentally on days I work. But in general my schedule isnt too hectic now for resting so thats why I feel its a good time to try this now.

berry why are you water fasting? i'm confused. all the things you say you need (like some energy and mental awareness) is not what you get on a water fast. at least not in the beginning.

why not just do a juice fast?

i have no idea how anyone could gain weight just consuming green smoothies... seems very odd to me. *shrug*

klo, yes i am. last time it lasted awhile but got better with the manuka honey so i'm doing that again.

Berry, I started out fasting by going on the master cleanse. That's what I did for the first several fasts.

For me I find juice fasting much more pleasant, and sustainable.

With your previous smoothie fast, did you include nuts or nut milks in the smoothies? Or other fat containing foods? Generally a fast is fat free, that's why juices are a popular choice.

For me I find that on juice fasts I can drink as much as I like, not worry about calories and lose weight, and I'm typically a 'slow metabolism' type person.

I just drink till I'm full and not worry about how many calories I've consumed. And when I've ended a day and entered my intake into fitday, I've come up with just the right amount of calories taken in on the couple of occasions I've done this, so I seem to be doing something right. You might want to check your intake.

Or just join us on a juice fast!

EDIT: I find that to curb cravings and help with mineralisation, I drink green juices on my fasts. Tends to help heaps.

Oh the smoothies were to get in more easier the 3000 cal that the 80 10 10 diet calls for. It didnt work for me. I was bloated, unsatisfied and gained a lot of weight. I was doing a high fat raw diet focused on greens and was SLOWLY losing weight doing that. I was more satisfied doing that. But all that fruit and mono eating made me start craving junk food too. I missed the savory tastes. So now I want to go back to what was working for me. I have most the days where I can just rest now but want to be alert enough on the 3 days I do work. But I might try the master cleanse first and juicing. Have a few water only days because I will get a week off soon and I really want to do a week to 10 day water fast one day. I have some health issues that I would liked resolved too.

The tomato juice sounds amazing though! Do you allow some salt in that too? I really want to break my addiction to eating/over eating. I think I need to stop "eating" in a way so I can learn to deal with my emotions better and issues of boredom.

Not sure what Aleesha does for her tom juice, but I add celery (for a bit of a salty taste) and things like juiced garlic and fresh turmeric. You can also add basil leaves to the juicer and add a nice herby taste that way, or other herbs that go with tomato.

Tastes FANTASTIC!!!

02-06-2011, 08:49 PM
you have to just try different things for your juicer. i've never used an omega so i have no idea. you could ask on the forum and see if other people have done so.

i add some salt to my tom juice. i also add kelp powder which is salty... and celery, fennel etc too.

i'm all about the spices so lots of them as well.

Bodytalk is amazing. She asks questions, my body answers and she does really deep work (physical, spiritual, emotional). The change is almost instant. I've gained soooo much working with her. I began in Sept and love love love having sessions with her. If you have free long distance calling, you can have an over the phone session with her. That's what I'm doing right now. She's a few hours away from me so instead of our in-person sessions we are doing distant ones. If you don't have long distant calling... she can share all the info via email with you but to be honest... talking with her during the session is a really important part for me. Here's a link to her website: http://www.bodytalksystem.com/practitioners/details.cfm?id=23354 and you'll notice there are other practitioners as well. You can find one near you via that same website.

Ahhhh the healing from this is amazing. I'm so pleased that my tooth is feeling so much better.

I'm really glad I'm not alone in this!

Good Afternoon all! I am back from VA and over 2000 miles of driving in three days and am finally feeling rested!

Though fasting proved to be too difficult considering the circumstances...I was SO grateful for my husband's family!! One sister in law came to the van (15 of us rode together) with tons of fruit to add to the fruit I brought!! And when we got to VA hubby's aunt (who we all stayed with) had stocked the mini fridge with raw fruits and veggies for me.....and I never even asked!! What great support :heart

Because it was the whole family I spent the car ride and weekend with my nieces...4mo old, 15mo old, and 4.5yrs old. This was fun but difficult. Epically the 15mo babe who loves me to pieces and looks like my husband because she looks like her mother....lots of private tears and baby laughs. My body/hormones responded to the babes, I think overtime as my body is clean from fasting. Not sure what is going on but I know that because I was able to stay raw and am now back to juices, things will begin to find balance again.

Celery/cucumber/parsley/ginger for my evening concoction.....so looking forward to this one!

Well the water fasting is kicking me in the butt. I was so tired this morning but then got a surge of energy and felt great. Just very tired walking even. Its an odd feeling. But I will juice fast tomorrow and can't wait. I wasnt hungry most of this morning but I get hungry as the evening comes. I am not sure if this is also out of habit? Anyway, I am going to make a green juice tonight and a decent amount tomorrow. My headache went away but I've had a sore throat and just feeling irritable again. I did put some lemon in the water though because I have this bad taste in my mouth and wanting something with citrus in it.

Not so great a day for me, I hurt my back jumping out of bed and was in a lot of pain in the morning. :(

I had to come home early from work, but the upside is I got some time to myself. :)

Speaking of meds, my boss asked me what meds I was on for the pain and I said nothing and they all thought I was crazy. She said I should at least go to the doctor and get pumped fill of anti inflammatories, I said no thanks, and that if it continued I'd juice some pineapple cores, which are high in anti inflammatories. Come to think of it, MOST of my diet is anti inflammatory!

It's much better now, but I'm still paying a visit to an osteopath tomorrow to get him to see what was wrong. It's still stiff and still a bit sore and I can't move certain ways or the pain comes back. :(

And to make things even more tragic, I forgot that I'd lent my house keys to my son's dad and he still had them! So I arrived home to a locked empty house, and had to slowly climb in through the window, VERY slowly!

But fast is still going good! :woot:

Guys, I'm an 8th level geek, I know LOTR quotes when I see them!

Day 18, time seems to just be flying by! I juiced much of my juice for today just before I went to bed last night as I have to go out for most of the day. I have an orange, lime and nectarine juice and a tomato, capsicum, garlic, endive and carrot juice. Yummo!

A couple of days ago realised I can juice bananas! So I'm making banana and other fruit nectars for dessert. they are ticker than the average juice so I have them in a cocktail glass with a spoon. Last night for dessert I had banana, blueberry and a dash of lime, tasted fantastic!

Aleesha Sattva

bananas don't juice... they mush. you can't juice em. they awaken your digestion! of course you can consume whatever you choose to but just so others know... if you wanna stay fasting... don't do bananas or avocados... they don't keep your sleeping digestion asleep. ;)

chugging along on Day 10 of my MC. So almost one third done. I have decided to Master cleanse 34 days til the day of my flight back to LA. Then when I get back in the city I can shop for lovely citrus to juice.

Things are coming together perfectly for my move, one week ago i didnt have a place to live or anything and now I do with two girls who are spiritually in a very similar place as me and very nice. I am living in a two story townhome in a really amazing gated community in LA that I have lived in before. it's the perfect location because i can walk to the farmers market, or trader joes or whole foods. Seriously I dont think it could be any better, there is shopping and a theatre nearby (the famous Grove) and a park across the street from my apartments. Plus the grounds of the actual apartments are big and beautiful because when they were built the codes required an acre per apartment.

Also my grandpa wants to help me move back out and get started financially so he is sending me a big chunk of money to help with rent etc. YAY.

And I am feeling great and looking pretty good too:) My skin looks nice albeit very pale and my arms look so toned and lean. And my tummy is very flat, just need my behind and legs to follow suit.

Aleesha I have a question for you. I am Master cleansing for 30 days then 7-10 days on juice then breaking with soaked prunes as per the juice feasting/arnold ehret method then continuing for the next week or so with green smoothies, juice, soup, etc maybe some fruit at nights. How soon can i add hemp protein or other raw protein powders to my smoothies? I am hoping to jump into resistance training hard to try and gain as much muscle as possible to offset any metabolic slowing and I also know I do better metabolically with more protein. would love to hear your thoughts on this:) thank you!!

personally i would not break with prunes but just simply use watered down green smoothies. much better IMO.

i don't know anything about adding protein powders but i can't imagine why it would be a problem. it's all ground down so you should be able to add it within a couple of days of transferring. i'd only wait a couple of days so your body can transition nicely from juice to smoothies first... then add in the powders.

but i'd do more research... don't take my advice on this cause honestly... i am just talking from common sense not knowledge.

breaking a mc fast with solid prunes sounds harsh... maybe start with prune water, or date water, then move to like prune smoothie.

but i dont know.

Coming to join you all tomorrow.

I've been working hard at this Raw Cafe here in Toronto. Very hard to juice fast when you've got to taste everything you make.

Also really hard on the body to have little tiny bites of random things all day and no substantial meals.

My boss was taught by Alissa Cohen and she's been really wonderful in teaching me, but what an exhausting place the food business is!

Rest tomorrow, water fasting.

Aleesha, can't wait to see more pictures. I am actually getting a tattoo soon as well. Nothing so elaborate. a nice little literary one.
will post pics too :)

nadien, she's breaking her mc with a juice fast for a week or 10 days... so it's the juice fast she'll be breaking not a mc.

all the best with your profession... i can only imagine how much you are learning and teaching to those around you!

i'm craving a fast... but i think i need to wait a few days first. we'll see... i think right now... i'm fasting from a fast LOL

ah yes, thanks for the correction Aleesha. Sorry Rawlala, I misread your post. Don't take my advice (not that you were going to! haha)

Question: what is "common" SENSE and how is it different from knowledge?

You are speaking from personal experience through the senses, and how is knowledge attained? I mean "scientific knowledge", the kind that fills articles and studies and makes up statistics? It's just a published version of a multitude of observed personal experiences. isn't it?

Maybe it isn't. I don't know anymore.

I am thinking though, that when we ask questions (especially on a forum like this)
what we are looking for is advice based on personal experience, based on personal sensual experience. All you can offer is your own common sense and it's extremely valuable knowledge.

what i meant was... it's just my common sense... i hadn't done any research into it so there may be a reason to NOT follow my common sense.

but i hear ya!!!
