so many questions this morning (LOL)...
I did a search to find out what tahini is.... but do most of you who use it make your own or buy it already made? is tahini normally made with raw sesame seeds or are they toasted (browned)?

Simply Raw, soaked sesame seeds. We make Tahini in our Omega Juicer. :)

I sometimes buy the "raw" tahini or i have also made my own when i needed it in a recipe real quick. If you have raw sesame seeds, its super easy to make.
Delise - Isn't the juicer fun...I have the Champion, very similar. I love making nut butters, ice creams and sorbets in it.

I'm not trying to threadjack here - but GreenT ~ how do you make nut butters in your Champion? I've got a Champion but I've never made nut butters in it. Thanks in advance! *Ü*

Thanks GreenT - I love YouTube! If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of butters have you made? Do you use roasted nuts, or have you had success with raw? (questions questions..) *Ü*

I love youtube also!!! I haven't done the roasted, only raw. That video shows her doing roasted but its the same concept for any nut. So far i have made almond butter, It turns out so creamy!

If you are going to buy tahini - The best raw tahini to buy is from Rejuvenative Foods. Whole Foods usually carries it -- you would find it in the refrigerated section ... or you can order it directly online.
I have a nice Tahini Paste recipe ...
1 cup whole sesame seeds (soaked 12 hours)
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 lemons
3 cloves garlic
3 medium dates (or one big medjool)
1 slice jalapeno (about half a thumb)
1 teaspoon celtic sea salt
Drain soaked sesame seeds.
Combine all ingredients in vitamix until smooth.
This is a great Tahini Paste … excellent added to recipes or all by itself as a spread or dip.

I really do apologize Time4Me ~ I sure hope you don't mind me asking GreenT these questions on your thread. :o
GreenT ~ When you make almond butter, do you soak and or dehydrate the nuts first, or...? I'd really like to make my own because what I buy at Costco is from roasted almonds, and I'd prefer to have it raw. Thanks for all your hlep with this!! *Ü*

Deb - I haven't soaked or dehydrated them. I just take them as they are and drop them in the juicer. Now you have me wanting some :D

The vast majority of pre-made tahini is not raw, but a few brands (Artisana can always be counted on) will make and clearly label raw tahini. See if you can try some out before you spend a bunch of money on it though, a lot of people, myself included, think it's disgusting.
