Hi everyone!
I've been looking over dehydrators on amazon and found one that seems to be alright due to ratings from past customer reviews and is within my budget. (I'll look into getting the Excalibur one at a later time!)
The one thing that I'm having some trouble finding is the "clean screens" for the dehydrator. I found additional "add-a-trays" and "fruit roll up sheets."
I'm not sure what is a "clean sheet" and what it's exactly useful in a dehydrator.
I'm also not clear if the "fruit roll up sheet" is the "clean sheet" that people refer to when dehydrating food.
Any clarifications would be super!
Thanks!
Hi ~ I can help with the 'fruit rollup sheet'. A dehydratray tray holds the screen. As its name implies, the screen is like a piece of graph paper - full of little holes for air circulation. This is fine for lots of items, but not fine for something soupy or runny - like pureed fruit for example.
That's when you would use the 'fruit rollup sheet' which is solid. You'd pour your runnier items out onto the solid sheet and when they've dehydrated long enough to flip over, you can peel them off the solid sheet and flip them over onto the screen. They'll dehydrate quicker this way on the screen because of the better air circulation.
I've never heard of 'clean screens' - perhaps if you'd include a link to the dehydrator you're looking at, we'd be able to see the dehydrator and help with what these are . *Ü*

hi,
this is the link to the dehydrator I was looking at that's currently on sale:
Nesco/American Harvest FD-80 Square-Shaped Dehydrator
http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-American-FD-80-Square-Shaped-Dehydrator/dp/B00179DCCQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I34D9A7W3T0XKX&colid=RWL8O11T7DOA
thanks!
I found them here: http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-American-Harvest-Clean-A-Screen-Tray/dp/B00004W4V8
I would recommend browsing the (24) reviews and seeing if this is something you'd like to add.
Personally, for under $9.00 for 2 trays, I would go for them. From the few reviews I read, they sound like a nice addition. Will they fit okay onto the square trays? That's quite a nice price for the unit you've picked out on sale! And then toss in free shipping - nice!
And to answer your original question, no - the clean-a-screens are not the same as the fruit rollup sheets. *Ü*
