I have done some reading, and apperently the vitamix is the way to go. Are there any other blenders (price as well, please) that you would recommend? It would be mainly for soups and ice cream, so I need something good. I was hoping to find something decent without having to spend hundreds of dollars, but it doesnt appear to be the case :)

I've heard that VitaMix is the one and only. :p You get what you pay for. But if you mostly want to make soups and ice cream, why not go for a food processor instead? They're much more affordable.

Blendtec is also very good, I have some friends that swear by it, but it's price range is pretty much the same as the Vitamix.

With the Vitamix though it doesn't matter how long ago it was made, so vintage ones get the job done well, too, if you come across one for cheap. Often times you can find low prices on ebay/craigslist or within local raw groups someone will post their used blender for sale at a discounted price.

Anyone made icecream in a food processor? I never thought about using a processor. They ARE much more affordible, that would just tickle me pink if that would work :D

I know you can make banana ice cream in a FP. Just add chopped frozen bananas and let 'r rip! *Ü*

Yep, I do this on a regular basis. To make it in a blender (well, my $20 blender), you have to add a lot of liquid... so it's not so much ice cream as smoothie. :p

Having done it both ways (making ice cream) I always did it in my blender (blendtec) till I read it on here somewhere to use the food processor...the later does it so much better...without much liquid added...have to add alot more liquid to the blender to blend. Talking banannas here...

I have one of those little cups that works with my immersion blender stick. I use it all the time to make strawberry ice cream, banana ice cream, grind up nuts and stuff.

OHH I actually have one of those as well!!

Also...what size of food processor do you all have?? I know 2-cup will not be enough, but will a 7-cup one be sufficient? we are a family of 2 adults, and 2 young children...although usually it is just myself and the kids. I am wondering if I should go with 7 cup or 12 cup?

just make sure that it's deep enough. a problem i've had in the past is i make a lot in my fp and then it's spilling out the centre portion.

so make sure whatever one you choose... is high in the centre. ;)

Even though it's now just my husband and I - I love my 11 cup Cuisinart. I've even toyed with the idea of the 14 cup next time around. Lots of times I'm making food just for myself and personally, I wouldn't want something smaller than my 11 cup.

I do have a Kitchen Aid mini that I use from time to time and I'm glad I have it, but my vote is for the 12 cup! *Ü*

The past 6 six years since i know rawfood,I have been using a juiceking blender, which is simular to a vitamix, but the buttons are the other way around,so I pressed on pulse instead of off.......

I had to clean the whole kitchen.....and myself...

I love my vitamix though!have it for 2 weeks now....

i would not buy anything less than a 3 HP blender, i have used the vitamix 2 hp and it would not handle some of the frozen fruit drinks. blendtec is the way to go

I found a Waring 3.5 hp blender off Amazon not too long ago and it was less than $250 ... beast of a machine and works wonderful :)

on a funny note my dad thinks its insane that I have such a powerful blender but he doesn't complain when i make fruit smoothies for him lol
