Hey everyone, hopefully some of you have been doing this awhile and know the answer to this, as I've heard a lot of different things.

I want to do a fast this coming week. I have done one other fast, and it was apple/pineapple juice. It was very cool and I had good results. I fasted 4 days and then did a liver cleanse at the end, got a lot of toxins out and felt AMAZING after.

However, I was thinking of trying more of a "green juice" fast this time. But I have a couple questions:

1) Mixing fruit and green juices together

I see a lot of the recipes and what not for juice in this forum are things like kale+apple+ celery, etc. So my question is: Is it all right to mix fruit and green juice like that? I have always been taught by holistic professionals that one is to never mix fruit with vegetables, especially while fasting. Something about it messing up the stomach. I know I am unable to eat fruit with other foods without having horrible gas and bloating, so should I be concerned about adding a little fruit to my green juice mix to make it more tasty? I don't know if I'm ready to do the entire fast on only green juice. But only fruit juice is a bit too sweet for me, and I'm trying to get over a bad case of candida overgrowth so I don't want to add too much sugar.

2) Using different juices throughout the fast

The other thing I was always taught, which seems to go against what some people do, is that one should pick one juice and stick to it throughout the fast. Such as apple, or a green juice. But it seems a lot of people just make whatever juice they fancy and drink different juices all throughout the fast. So, as long as it is juice, it doesn't matter? Or is it better to pick one and stick to it? I want to keep it as simple as possible.

Aside from those two questions I was wondering if anyone knows a good simple green juice recipe I could use as a relative noob to fasting. My health problems are: leaky gut/skin diseases, depression/anxiety, candida, and I have also had parasite infections in the past due to my extremely low immune system and illness (ew I know, gross sorry).

My goals are to get alkaline, balance the minerals/electrolytes in my body and heal my gut. I was thinking of celery+kale+cucumber+ apple? If fruit in the mix is acceptable? And maybe throwing a pineapple in if I feel I need a sugar boost to do something?

I plan on starting the fast tomorrow night. Any tips about the juice or thoughts on my situation would be appreciated. I really believe this can help me get alkaline and heal my body. :o

greens are not veggies. they are greens. they can be combined with any other fruits or veggies you choose.

i mix up my juices... that way my body gets a well balanced amount of nutrition and i don't get bored with my juices. fasting is difficult enough... why make it harder by restricting yourself further? of course, if you choose to... go for it. it's your fast... make it what YOU want not what others do.

your juice combo is delicious. i've had that many times (celery+kale+cucumber+ apple) i usually add ginger as well - i love having it in my juices and in my body.

if you find that you are really resonating with another green when you are at the market be sure to buy it. i looooooooooooooooooooove adding beet greens to my juice. loooove it. kale is super yummers. romaine is good in smaller quantities for me but others loooove it. spinach is always a good choice.

the only advice i have for you is this. always add citrus to your green juices. it assists your body to absorb all the iron. so lemon, lime, pineapple, orange, grapefruit... pick one and add some. all without the skins!

Awesome, thanks for the reply! I've heard that you can mix greens with anything but I wasn't sure about the celery. I guess it is just easy to digest and mostly water and electrolytes anyway so it does not matter. Starting the fast tomorrow night, woo! Excited!

look at it like this.

if you make a juice and it doesn't sit well with you. make a different juice the next time.

cantaloupe used to be my fav juice. now it upsets my tummy so... i don't make it anymore.

;) cause what works for one person may not work for another.
