So for a couple years now Ive had gross acne, not a severe case but still enough that I dislike it greatly. Even when I was 100% raw it never went away, and as of lately Ive been consuming lots of foods with vitamin E(almonds/etc) and also mangos as I have heard those help with skin as well. Ive tried many acne products from commercial and holistic, and none have really worked, some have kept it a little under control(such as bentonite clay), but never cured it.

I know acne is generally caused by hormone imbalances or a toxic liver, someone correct me if I'm wrong. What foods would be beneficial to correct either of these problems? I am very desperate here so any advice given would be greatly appreciated!

While diet is a huge factor with this issue, it's not the only problem. Plenty of things can trigger acne, like lack of sleep, stressful situations, dehydration, etc.

See what happens after a few months 100% raw.

Stress was huge for me. As soon as I left a very intensely stressful job with inadequate sleep, I largely stopped having really bad issues. I then got pg. and that made my skin glow of course, but now having been raw and mostly raw I see it as being largely hormonally related the times that I do have a bit and it is not nearly as bad as it had been.

I agree with stress and lack of sleep.

another really important things is what you put on your face, and if you wash your face.

one thing that really diminished acne for me was to stop washing my face.

i no longer wash my face, just massage it with coconut oil/sesame seed oil/grapeseed oil before a shower, and a little after.

sometimes I do nothing. just rinse with warm and then cold water.

sometimes i make my own face masks.

flaxseed meal really helps with calming the skin. I mix that with some sesame seed oil, and some lavender.

cucumber juice has been nice to me.

Oh, I forgot to mention something in my first response. You said in another thread that you're a teenager, right?
As I'm sure you've heard a million times, your body is probably going through some hormonal rollercoasters right now, and that will definitely affect your skin.

i did a liver cleanse(by Flora) this summer to specifically help my fibromyalgia(which it did for a few months), but it completely cleared up my face. this summer i had relatively low stress-levels though, so that also contributed i'm sure. this fall i've had extremely high stress-levels from situations and very poor health, so my acne has flared and doing the liver cleanse didn't help much. also i've not been eating very nutritionally so that has something to do with it i'm sure.
to summarize, the contributors to acne problems i have are 1) stress, 2) hormonal imbalance(which i have), 3) toxins, and 4) eating habits(high-fruit diet i think has something to do with it??).

anyways. yah.

acne is caused by numerous things, fist you need to figure out what skin type you have.
if you have thick skin and big pores its most likely oily
if dry and small pores then normal
if your skin is oily then you most likely have an over production of sebum (the stuff inside the pimple) this clogs the pore causing the outbreak. you need to try no to dry out this skin type as it can cause worse acne. I find tea tree oil on the spot can help alot as it it an antibacterial and holistic. if you are poping your pimple be sure to wash your hands and try using 2 q-tips instead of fingers to avoid preading bacteria.
if you have normal skin then your problem is most likely due you hormones or something going on inside and you should try talking to a doctor about this.

I've been doing research on this for my kids 18 and 23 who both have acne and have heard many testimonials for apple cider vinegar. Both ingested and topical. Neither one of them are willing to try it so I don't know if it works or not. They also eat fast food and sad and don't seem to want to commit to anything healthy  If you try it, let me know how it works.

Over the past few months my acne has actually been clearing up drastically, mainly since Ive gone 100% raw high-fruit. I havent had a single outbreak since, just a few red spots on my face still.

Christy, I actually have used ACV mixed with bentonite clay on my face and never noticed a difference besides making my face feel softer. But Ive heard quite a few positive stories on people clearing up their acne by using this combo regularly.

Ok my friend what i am about to tell you is 100% the truth.

Store some morning urine in a bottle and when you shower hopefully later in the day/night apply this to your face within weeks your acne will be gone and your skin as vibrant as ever. If you are grossed out/skeptical ask yourself this.. what is worse terrible acne as you say or a moment of two of urine on your skin and it will not smell once on your skin and as a raw foodist i gather it wont have any odour all together. If you have questions ask away i am more then happy to answer.

You've luckily gotten on the right way :) A mostly fruit-based diet, with limited amount of protein (especially cooked protein) and salt is the best way to get rid of acne. Vegetables may also contribute to acne, fat doesn't make a difference. With such a diet you have the least water retention in the skin, which is pretty much always the cause for acne. As long as you keep this water retention to minimum, new acne are very unlikely to appear.

Then I guess your acne are caused by some external factors, which clog the pores of the skin. Maybe you work/live in an extremely dusty place? And then the acids in the urine probably help unclog the pores.

Dude, first of all get a juicer if you don't already have one. For acne, hit the cucumber, celery and grape juices HARD :D This will give your lymphatic system a good flush out, clearing out toxins/waste matter in the body, which is essentially what acne originates from anyway. Once you start doing this regularly you should notice your skin starting to clear up. Nuts and seeds are good in moderation to keep your skin healthily oily, but don't overdo them as many are high in fat, such as brazil nuts... Almonds & sunflower seeds are fantastic though, especially if you soak them before eating. I've also heard that coconut oil is a God-send for skin-related issues, and so you could consider using this as a secondary measure to clean your skin up.

Hope this helps buddy! :)

Thank you for the advice. :) But as I mentioned in here I actually was able to get rid of my acne by going high carb(high fruit) low fat raw. Ive also noticed over that time I cannot eat oranges or pineapple without breaking out.

I normally make a large one last a few days ... but they are one of my favourite fruits. My dog and hens like them too :)

I usually cant stop once I start eating watermelon, just too good and lower in calories so I have to eat a lot of it. I have to agree, one of my favorite fruits as well! My dog lives for watermelon, every single time I have it she has to have some. My mice have mixed opinions on it though.
