I have a Jack Lalanne juicer, and normaly I will juice often during the day and drink the juice within 30-60 min. However, I was wondering how much nutritional value in the juice will I lose by juicing all the juice I want in one day and keeping it a glass jars in the refrigerator. I'm trying to save myslef some time but am not sure if the benefit of juicing and cleaning the machine only once will be less nutritionaly beneficial to me....Thanks

from the research i've done... when using a juicer like this (a centrifugal juicer) your juice begins breaking down immediately and within 15 minutes there is no nutritive value left in your juice.

at that point it's just sugar.

Does this include the Vitamix? I have no idea what kind of blender it is. I at least like to keep a big Vitamix of juice and drink it within 24 hours, rarely 48 if I am extremely lazy about drinking it, but this doesn't happen much.

The single gear juicers are better and the twin gear are better still and the juice from those will last longer.
The norwalk is the best of all but not too many can afford that. It is on my wish list.

Wow, I had no idea it broke down that fast. Either I need to drink faster or get a new juicer. So glad I asked.... Thanks

i have no idea how long a juice lasts in the vitamix but i'd guess 12 hours approx?

champion juicer is 24 hours
green start is up to 3 days better to not go beyond 2 days though.

i think i'm remembering these right...

hmm.... not sure, but I also have the same juicer (was a gift several years ago) I drink juice only when I have the time to drink it right away. I rarely ever use it now ( I hate cleaning it) so i just blend my greens with water in my blender and drink as a smoothie, or strain in a nutmilk bag. either way, I would drink within a couple of minutes. my juice from the lalane tends to separate rather quickly, with bits floating on the top with clear liquid under after just an hour or so. with the good stuff floating on top with more surface area exposed to the air, it will oxidize pretty fast and lose nutrients. although, not really a purist, as I get my veggies as of winter from the supermarket, and obviously it's already lost a lot of nutrients on it's long journey into my mouth and tum :)

Yeah, many veggies and fruits have lots nutrients in the produce section, because lord knows how long they have been in the store, even on the truck before that, before you buy them.

it will oxidize pretty fast and lose nutrients.

Then juice it in combination with some fruits or veggies with a lot of antioxidans in it.

Hmmmmm....this has not been my experience at all...that is loses value or turns to sugar.
I use vitamix n strain. I get as much bliss from my juice if I drink it now or later. I feel exatly the same, taste and feel the nutrition. My body is the best study group I know of.
I stopped listening to what "they" say a long time ago..heehee.

Victoria Boutenko did a little experiment with potato's to see how quickly they would oxidize when blended using her vitamix and when just juiced with a juicer.

It was showing how the blended potato didn't oxidize as quickly as the juiced one. And I really don't know if that has anything to do with nutritional loss.?

I think she also did the experiment with the help of a college? I could be wrong on that part. But the info is at her website somewhere. So maybe if you were to strain the juice from the fiber after using a vitamix you could do it right before you drank it?

I dunno....? Just a little info that I recall.

But back to the OT.... When I make juice with my juicer I like to drink it straight away. I can taste how bad it turns if it's left to sit. You can test this easily with some lemons. Just juice a few lemons. Take half of the juice and mix it in water and drink it. mmmmmm, tastes good. Then take the other half and put it in your fridge for 6 hours. Then again after a length of time take the remaining juice and mix it in water and drink.....if you can..:p ewwwww

she didn't strain those ff... she was doing tests to find out if juicing (removing pulp) made the oxidation speed up rather than leaving the pulp in (like a green smoothie). she found that oxidation is slowed when the pulp is left in.
