PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!
Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!
There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.
And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!
Here's my commitment:
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!
Tomorrow I will be on Day 1!!!
This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

Okay let me share this now... before anyone asks.
I'm ready to fast again. Wanna know why? I know that some of you may be scratching your head in disbelief considering I just recently broke my 209 day fast. What on earth is Aleesha doing? Why is she fasting AGAIN???
Here's why...
I feel horrid. I miss my light self. I miss my fasting self. I miss my amazing level of clarity and energy that I have while I'm fasting. Yes... raw foods gives me these benefits but after being so "high" for 7 months... the coming down from this fast has not been fun at all.
I'm breaking it well (not stellar but well) and I'm having heaps of bms... so it's not that my body can't function... it's just that my body already wants a break from food.
I was going to wait until Saturday to start fasting again... as some people want to see me eat LOL but I just don't wanna. I don't wanna wait any longer.
So tomorrow morning... I fast!
How long? I have no idea. Perhaps a day... perhaps a week... perhaps a year. We'll see... I have no expectations at all. I will go with the flow and simply allow...
*smiling*
Ahhhh it's good to be back! (((hugfest)))

I'm still here keeping tabs on things. Good to see people doing well and finding their groove. I finished a 9 day fast last week. Those will probably just be at the change of seasons for me now and just 1-2 day fast (I'm doing one tomorrow and part of Saturday) thrown in the rest of the time. To keep building my strength I find I need more protein so I've been concentrating on that. My earthing mat seems to be doing some really good things for my health so I am very pleased with that!
My weight is staying down well and I feel like I'm learning to better control myself around food. That has been a huge benefit for me!
We had a snow & ice storm here so I was home from work for 2 days but was outside walking in the snow a lot! I'm glad to see it leave now, though! My car is, too! I drive a very fair weather car and it doesn't not do well in bad weather (rear wheel drive). I had to put 80# of dumbbells in the trunk for some traction!

you did 9 days? oh miss that IS good news!!! i'm soooo pleased about this. (((hugs)))
i've ordered a new wool bed topper (non-off-gassing) and a new organic pillow. it'll be here in a week. i'm very excited about it!

((hugs...hugs...and more hugs..)) I love hugfests :)
I had alot of juice today.. I do still have a few pineapples and lots of coconuts and some carrot/celery juices. Soooooo... I continue partial fasts until I can get some more produce next Tuesday.
I would love to fast a few days each week. We'll see how that goes..

ah aleesha, welcome back.
I broke my fast two days ago, and I am feeling quite heavy myself.
Like, I just feel like, if I'm not juicing or eating mono meals, my body is putting too much WORK into digesting and all this tummy gurgling and bm's and energy that is taken away from other parts of self to work on digesting complicated (albeit still raw) meals, is NOT WORTH IT, just for the satisfaction of the CRUNCH.
I am giving up on eating again as well. tonight I am having a meal with my mate and then I head back into the juicing world.
Tomorrow I will wake up to grapefruit juice.
WHY?
I am fasting to feel light
I am fasting for mental clarity
I am fasting to be kind to my body
I am fasting to become more SIMPLE.
I am fasting so I can put more energy towards my spiritual growth.
The nice thing about right now is that, I just got a job at a Juice bar!!
ah, so happy to be in this "fellowship" with you guys. What a great support team we are.
I will be here daily now, as I want to REALLY dialog how i feel during this fast. My last fast, I did not do much dialoging and regret this.

i would LOVE to work at a juice bar!!! what a treat for you!!!
lady aredhel, i am so blessed to be walking beside you. what an honour, what a gift... i love having you in my life! (((hugs)))

I can understand the "heavy" feeling from eating! Most days, I drink juice w/ raw protein for breakfast and lunch and will sometimes eat just a little bit. I find if I eat normal meals all day, I just don't like it at all! I'm better off not eating much or just drinking juice and having dinner be my only "real" meal.
nadien alexandra
01-13-2011, 08:32 PM
I agree.
when I am eating, it is nice to have (late) lunch be the only "real" meal.
Usually I will eat fruit for breakfast,
then some more fruit.
more fruit.
late lunch of large salad
then green smoothie (maybe)
and more fruit.
but even this lunch of salad thing is not sitting well with me. I feel like my greens do not digest as well when i am chewing em all up. it's better to blend them or juice them.
Aleesha Sattva
01-13-2011, 09:05 PM
i'm pretty much just doing fruit... and it's still not sitting well with me... so juice it is!!!
juice juice and then perhaps... some more juice!
and water of course.
tomorrow morning i'll begin (as usual) with a high water day... 4 litres of water before noon... and then perhaps juice. we'll see... i may just do water for a day or three to start...
nadien alexandra
01-13-2011, 09:51 PM
WOW! I think I was really meant to get juicing tomorrow.
my friend just brought over 4 pineapples that he scored for 4$ (1$ each!)
and 20 mangos for 2$... my oh my oh my.
Apparently the lady at our local market thought they were going, but they are totally just right.
sorry, i really had to brag. im so full of joy right now :D

ahhhhhhhhh it's nice to be away from solids again. i'm soooooooooooooooo blissing out already and my fast doesn't really begin until tomorrow... so i'll go to bed and get it to come quicker.
you know what is REALLY lovely? my son has his driver's license so i don't have to get up at 6:45 and drive him to work AND my daughter is going with friends to our homeschooling co-op tomorrow so i get a whole day to my SELF! no driving, no running errands...
if it's nice i'll go for a walk and get my last blood test done. ahhhhhh i'm in bliss folks! total bliss.

Hello everyone!
I have been thinking about fasting for a while now and finally decided to do it. After being 100% Raw (Today is 100% raw day#83) My Juice fast will start tomorrow and may be extended depending how my temple feels on day#5 (most likely WILL be extended). I have been doing days with just juices here and there to prove to myself that I CAN do it. :) For the past two days I have been doing mostly juices to prepare and I feel so wonderful already! This great, light feeling is something I can get used to for sure. ;)
I am planning on having lots of water with lemon first thing in the morning, then komucha followed by juices as my temple asks for them. I'm very excited and looking forward to this new experience. I look forward to getting to know all of you and learning from you. Thank you!
*light and love*

i'm feeling so good. amazing how telling my body that i'm fasting is all that is needed and it gets into the zone immediately now. ahhhh i feel free.
welcome delise! it took me a bit to understand your 'temple' reference. very nice to hear someone refer to their body in that way. cause really... that's what it is. we need to take care of it, we only get one!
my daughter just left for homeschooling co-op, my son is at work... so is my hubby. I AM ALONE IN THE HOUSE!!! what a treat!!! i'm seldom alone anymore.
ahhhhhhhhhh so i have a lovely day planned.
lots of water, a nice long walk (since it's neither snowing or raining at the moment)... and some sauna time for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

DAY 11 for me of my Juice feast. I am feeling tired today and like laying down or lazing around. But the first ten days flew by fairly quickly and now I only have 5 or 6 more sets of ten to go:) It helps me break it up that way, so I am busy accomplishing my ten now.
My issue with a skin disorder has really flared up, clearly some work is going on there. I also just received the essential oil Sandalwood which my body tested strongly for in a compass test. It is anti-fungal antitumoral, and good for skin issues, cancer, and deep seated negative emotions. So i expect this to also help with the skin issue as I believe I have had some viral issue ever since I got chicken pox at age 14 and this skin issue started and has stayed since then. I have been blogging but dont really feel up to doing it or sharing too much most days. I just feel withdrawn but not bad. I have been contemplating relationships a lot lately, especially the male/female dynamic and how we all operate in some mix of masculine feminine energy. I am learning how to lean into my feminine energy in relationships and save my masculine energy for projects, goals and career. It seems to work much better this way.
4 quarts of juice today, I have upped my greens to 2lbs a day and also having half a quart spirulina "juice"

Well I am still recovering from my flu....my body doesn't really want to eat anything. so today I had a green smoothie with some garden of life raw protein, then in the afternoon i had a juice with kale, apples, and carrots. Right now I am just drinking lemon water. I am not sure what is going on with my body, but I will just go with it. I guess when i am ready to eat solid foods my body will tell me. I did have a couple of bananas.
I know that I should get some powder add in's, which ones should I get? Which is better to have on hand, spirulina, kelp, dulse,? I know that some of these can be expensive, so I would probably only to be able to afford to get one this month, and maybe one next month. So whichever one everyone seems to agree upon is the one I will get. Thanks everyone!

i like this word "temple" as well.
the sacred temple is where we must go to find the truth; to reconnect with the oneness of everything.
Today I ran about too much, and slacked on hydration. will not do this again (but I do this often).
Today I've had: grapefruit juice, pineapple/mango juice, pineapple juice, and this evening i will have a green juice with spinach and apples and lemons and spirilina.
RAWLALA: you are doing so well! things are coming to the surface, acknowledge them, look into them, let them go.
I have recently discovered the comfort in Fennel/dandilion tea. :)

i'd get spirulina and kelp... but let's remember that we don't talk about eating in this thread. this is for fasting talk and/or sharing about your juices, green smoothies, teas etc.
i just had the best tom blend ever.
i used 6 leaves of kale!!! oh it was gooooooooooood. i highly recommend it to you all.
mmmmmm i am so full... but if there was more... i'd eat it LOL it was beyond good!!!
i used about 8 toms, green onion, garlic, 5 kumquats, fennel, celery, red and yellow peppers, 1/2 long english cuke and the kale. ohhhhhhhhhhhhh mama...
oh and spices... i used kelp powder, cayenne, curry, cumin and some 3-6-9 vegetarian oil. i used the kumquats instead of lemon or lime so i'd get all the iron out of my greens!

i have a super super super busy day today... so i'm thinking tomorrow may be a better start date for me... but... I'm going to attempt to do water all day today and see if it works for me.
Gotta go shopping for groceries, then go to a musical with my daughter, pick up hubby and son from work and then go to my crystal bowl meditation. All running from one to another... so we'll see what ends up happening in the end. Taking it one moment at a time.
But... I soooooooo wanna just fast through it. I just don't know if it'll work for me today.

Thank Nadien for your words, they made me feel very happy and encouraged.
Day 12. I am here. Was able to be direct and speak my feelings with strength to my mom today. It is usually hard I fear confrontation but yesterday and today it felt natural. I hate letting emotions whirl inside and not giving them an outlet. I was careful to avoid blaming with my words. I am learning and absorbing so much right now. Amazing blog I have been reading by rori raye about relationships- romantic in particular but it applies to everything and how we relate to and nourish ourselves.

Today is day #2 and I am feeling FANTASTIC! Woke up feeling light and in a wonderful happy mood. My tongue is coated in a white layer so that is a good sign. Day #1 was a little difficult since I have had to prepare raw meals for my injured BF. Just makes the journey a little tougher and more satisfying. Good for you Delise and welcome. the beginning is always the toughest!
I am on DAY 14!!! YAY. I feel in awe of how it seems to be flowing past, the days are just rolling into each other. I feel more positive, less whirling thoughts about life and no more anxiety. I can tell all this green juice is making me more alkaline and thus more calm and grounded. I walked with some short jog intervals yesterday.
Sad news is that my grandma seems very close to passing. She has stopped eating and my grandpa has not been able to force her. I think she does not want to live anymore/ I feel very sad about this, but strangely calm at the same time. I know my grandpa is very close to releasing her and letting her go. She has alzheimers and it has been a long time since she was fully aware of everything.

wheatgrass is better taken alone with a citrus juice chaser (so you get all the iron absorbed into your system). take it on an empty tummy if you can.
here's what i have found (and rawlala this goes for you as well)... when my body wants something... it goes down nicely. when it doesn't want it any longer... it does not. i allow my body to decide if/when wheatgrass is what it wants. that goes for any other juices.
for the first 100 days of my fast i drank cantaloupe juice... my body LOVED it. then one day... it didn't. i kept trying to consume it but alas... my tummy got more and more upset. that told me my body was done with that juice and it was time to find a new blend for myself. i changed it up to pineapple/cucumber/ginger (and sometimes celery and apple in it too) and it loved it!
your body knows what it needs/wants. listen to it!!! trust it. that's a huge part of fasting.
Thank you Aleesha that feels good to be cyber hugged.

i answered you above.
i am not fasting at this time and i want to share something with you all.
after fasting for so long... i didn't even realize it but i was feeling guilty when i was eating. everything i was eating was upsettting my tummy. no matter how gentle the food (like papaya for example). if i had juice i was okay.
today something shifted for me. not sure what... but i think it's because yesterday i had a conversation with myself and simply gave up. i gave it all up. the desire to fast again. the desire to make anything happen my way. i just gave up. tossed my arms in the air and said, "okay fine... Universe you have the reins... do as ye will".
well today for the FIRST time since breaking my fast... i ate and was not in any discomfort at all. i feel totally great at the moment and it's been a few hours since i ate. i'm so pleased. i went to the market and was able to buy a nice assortment of fruits for myself and not have any ill feelings while choosing them.
i realize that i felt like i was cheating. even though i had broken my fast, after so long fasting... my body and mind was conditioned to only 'allow' liquids. i'm so glad something shifted. now perhaps i'll find some peace within my being.
(((hugs))) just wanted to share with you all. i look forward to enjoying my 'chew-time' before my next fast.
love and light,
Aleesha

thought i'd share this as well today:
On Irregular Bleeding in Women
By Victoria Boutenko
I am not a medical doctor and that is why I refrained from commenting on this topic for many years. However, recently my dear friend had her uterus removed, because she experienced unexpected bleeding soon after she adopted a vegetarian diet. In this article I am attempting to share with you my important observations, as a friend.
Here is my story. When I was 19 years old, after giving birth to my first son, I developed a condition called cervical erosion. My gynecologist horrified me by suggesting cryotherapy, which is application of liquid (frozen) nitrogen. She said that if it didn’t work I would have to undergo a hysterectomy. She scheduled my procedure to take place in one week. Frightened, I decided to perform a water fast. I was hoping that it would help me heal faster after cryotherapy, and thus avoid the hysterectomy.
To my horror, on the third day of my water fast I started to bleed profusely. It lasted for two days and then stopped. However, when I came to the scheduled cryotherapy, to my greatest thrill, the gynecologist told me I must have been misdiagnosed, and that I didn’t have any sign of erosion. I did not tell her what I did, but I remembered this episode vividly.
Throughout my life, when different girlfriends of mine shared about their gynecological problems, I told them my story. Only a few of them chose to take such a drastic measure, and fasted on water. Amazingly all of those women were helped, to various degrees.
Since I published my book Green for Life, I am constantly receiving emails from women who started to bleed suddenly after either adopting a raw food diet or drinking green smoothies. This article is my response to all these sisters. Don’t rush to do a hysterectomy. Maybe your bleeding is the way of your body to clean your organism of toxins. Give it a chance to run its course.
Think about this: If I hadn’t done my three day fast and instead had followed my doctor’s recommendations, I would not have the amazing experience of Sergei and Valya in my life.
It is true I am not a medical doctor, but I am a woman, mother and grandmother. If my experience could help improve somebody’s health, I choose to share it.

I feel like I've really gotten off track lately with eating and have been CRAVING a fast.
I'm thinking of starting tomorrow and doing a 3 day water fast to start.
My question, which may sound silly - is a water fast strictly just water? Or is herbal tea allowed?
I understand that a fast is really whatever restrictions I put on it, but I was just curious what other water fasts look like.

you should read the stickie in this thread... it goes into great detail about water fasting.
but... when you take anything into your body that has taste during a water fast... it causes your stomach acids to be released. that causes heartburn etc. so... during a water fast it should be ONLY water. nothing else. no lemon, no lime... no tea... nothing.

Thanks for the article about the bleeding. I have been searching and reading a lot of old threads on this forum about PMS, bleeding, cramps, and raw/juice fasting. I am getting a lot of mixed results. So many women say that raw healed them, but I noticed a few threads saying things like raw made their periods worse.
I have had three periods since being raw. The first was amazingly light and very little cramps (this never happens!), the last two were heavy and very painful which is normal for me. But I am not 100% raw yet. Maybe I will be after this fast, we will see.
My fast: I've had two juices so far. The fast is already really intense even after only half a day! I was feeling tired and sluggish earlier, then had my juice, then maybe a half hour or so later felt an incredible high. Like my body was buzzing all over, except I felt very centered and calm. Then I crashed a little, got very tired and moody. Then I had another juice and now I feel okay. Still hungry though, maybe I'll have one more juice before bed.
I feel a big difference in this fast, vs my last fast when I wasn't even remotely raw. Raw seems to be such a detox in itself, this fast is only taking me higher. :)

i have found that my periods are the same regardless of raw, cooked, fasting or not. so i have a hard time believing the whole "the amount you bleed is how toxic you are" cause IMO... after all the fasting and raw foods i've done in the past 3.5 years... i should have a lightest periods and i don't. my last period (in dec) was the lightest period ever but it's super heavy this time around again and it was super heavy... SUPER heavy throughout my fast and life...

I really don't mind the bleeding, especially now that I've ordered the diva cup *keep hearing such good things!*
My problem is the cramps. They are ungodly. And because I am violently allergic to corn, I can't take any aspirin, ibuprofin, etc. They all contain corn starch. So does most other medication, so I'm out of luck in that department. But my cramps get so bad I'm literally sobbing and writhing on the ground in pain. I've thrown up or blacked out from the pain before, really scaring the people who love me.
I get that cramps are to make the period start flowing. But it seems to me they shouldn't be that bad. I don't know, the fact that my first "raw" period was so light and easy must mean something, I'm just not sure what.
I am very fascinated by the mysteries of the goddess. :) I want to learn more.
Going to make my last cup of juice for the night. I'm thinking apple pineapple kale and cucumber will be nice. :)

Oh Aleesha!!! I miss fasting!!!!! :)
So I will be fasting again over the weekend for a one day fast. And I do want to do a three day or go for a week fast after I complete 90 days of P90X as a celebration!!! I celebrated with henna tattoos in my last round of P90X!!! I can't wait!!!! :D
I love how fasting is awesome!!
Has anyone ever juiced a lemon and an apple with a dash of raw honey? That sounds so good to me!!! I will have to try it on my one day fast coming up!!!

WOW! Aleesha the article you posted from Victoria...WOW!!! I have had an irregular MS for this past year. I even have a thread on here about it. At the beginning of the year, I didn't have one for about 6 months. I keep excellent records on this. Then, it came when I started drinking Raspberry Tea. But then it stopped again for 4 months and restarted a few days ago.
My doctor wants me to take Progestrone permanently. I'm not going to do that. I'm not in menopause, so I still don't know why my MS is irregular. I feel wonderful...even when it came there was no cramps and it was extremely light...
I have fasted a few times during the past year, but I never though that was the reason it's been irregular...especially looking at your experience and you fasted a whole lot more than I ever did. So, I'm not gonna worry about it. I'm just gonna continue to monitor it. I wonder if water fasting would regulate it...but, I'm not ready to make that committment yet...

Hey Reene,
Lack of hemmorhaging doesn't mean you are not ovulating so everything may definately be going right along just fine. Do you ever note cervical mucous changes or feel an ovarian twinge around the time you are considered most fertile?
FASTING NOW WOULD BE SO POWERFUL FOR ME. Need to reflect and consider.

Yea, actually I do! I was concerned because the flow stopped. I would "spot" for a day and that's it. Even now it's just lightly spotting....barely there. I've been searching the web and it seems to be a common thing. My diet is the only thing that changed when it got lighter and lighter then stopped. But, if I'm ovulating I'm not gonna worry about it.... Thank you!!!!

Hummm, interesting that you noticed a difference between the juice and the water fasting!!!! Wow! With your documented fast over 200 days, if it actually WAS the fasting that made it lighter, it's interesting that it didn't stay that way....
Reading that others have had similar changes to their periods has helped me so much! If I didn't have this site I probably would have let the Dr. keep me on meds the rest of my life! I'm gonna continue to keep my diary and stay Raw!!! Of course, I'm itching to do another fast.... ;)

Just to let you know........many contend that running a fever can be part of a detox or fast. Many contend that it is not.
In my experience it inexplicably can be. Spirit and health are mystically interwoven. One cannot invalidate another persons experiences. Ultimately we all need to be our own expert on our health and unique needs.
Yes, I know a natural hygiene expert told you that and you believe it to be fact. But we don't actually practice natural hygiene here on Alissa's board as most of us tend to eat nuts and grains and vegetables like roots.

Hello fasters
I am on day 3 of water fasting. I thought I would not be fasting till Spring since my last long water fast ended just a few months ago, but last week I just felt like it was the right time so here I am. I do not have any time length in mind I will just take it day by day. I am tired and cold today but that is usual.
I only gained about 8 pounds back from my last fast so I am happy about that.
Aleesha-Congrats on your long fast you should change your name to fasting woman. Your such a trooper.

... and I am feeling quite heavy myself.
I'm so glad I came along and read these words. After 4 weeks of high fruit mono-meals, juices and smoothies I was feeling fantastic and losing weight. In the last week I introduced almond butter, tahini and started making some raw recipes. I feel like crap. Smelly gas, rumbly tummy, unsatisfying bms, not particularly good sleep and stuck weight, I even succumbed to my first non-raw moment. I will be starting a juice fast tomorrow with the intention of getting back how I was feeling prior to this week and learning the limits of my body. I will continue as long as is necessary.
Do I need to take laxitives on a juice fast?
Aleesha Sattva
01-18-2011, 06:55 PM
mm, no you do not need to take laxatives while juice fasting.
stina, that's the great thing about opinions... we each get to do our own research and create our own. *smiling* thanks for sharing yours!
climbing, you don't have to water down all your juices... but you can choose to. i personally prefer to drink them not watered in most cases... as i prefer the flavour. i do add a little water though... the longer my fast progresses... only because my body doesn't seem to like anything even remotely thick as i continue fasting deeper and deeper.
and everyone... i've said it before and i'll say it again. i am not an authority on fasting. i'm not an authority on anything. i am simply sharing my knowledge, my experience and my view/vision. that's it. that's all. i've never said, "YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME, CAUSE I'M RIGHT".

broke my fast yesterday. i didn't want to so much, but I wanted to make some sampler desserts for a lady i might work with in a raw cafe.
today, I had a really heavy day. I felt very lost, and upset. I think I need to take it slow, and get these deep emotions out.
tomorrow I am water fasting, as I only work one hour (also helps save money on groceries! haha) and thursday I am back to juice.
I would have never thought to put pineapple with carrot. i am not so sure I will try it quite honestly. I like carrot mostly on its own, or just with celery & ginger or cayenne. However, two days ago, I had carrot/beet/cayenne and it was lovely.
So I'm opening up!!
ah. I hope everyone is doing well and visiting their temples daily.

Nadien congrats on your fast. i had a really heavy day yesterday too.
I am on DAY 16 of the juice feast. And yeah I second that you dont need laxatives on juice. i am stunned at the amount of unassisted BMs I am having. As if I were eating. So weird and great to be getting it gone.
Yesterday was so emotional I got into a huge thing with my mom. Feelings of guilt and frustration with myself for the past seven years of being sick. Sometimes it feels so hard to separate the symptoms from WHO you are. I am ambitious and hard working and I know that, getting my health back is bringing me back to myself.

i have one piece of advice... one.
don't ever make life changing decisions while fasting. you can think about making them but don't ever make them.
cause your fasting-self and your eating-self are two very different people (at times).
our tolerance lowers significantly while fasting.

You may want to wait till you are done your fast and see if you still don't like him cause you were deeply in love 2 weeks ago."
I've never forgotten that. The look on my face when she said I was grumpy. I HAD NO IDEA! None. From that moment on... I always kept a focus on my grumpy-levels while fasting. Often reminding the people around me, "I'm fasting and grumpy... please ignore me!"

Hooray! I feel great, Amazing, accomplished, etc., etc. :D
Day 4&5 were pretty much the same. Chills, freezing cold but feeling a lot better and connected. I took the most amazing walk yesterday to a park around my house. My senses were so sensitive and the sun came out just on time for my walk. I sat down, took everything in and listened to the birds and water. :) It's been a wonderful experience. I am still debating on extending it for two more days. Brought my juices and some other things just in case I want to break it. I'm "riding it". We'll see. It feels as if I am just starting to scratch the surface of this 'good feeling'. One thing that will definitely change will be my eating habits from now on. I am done and feel disconnected from that urge and necessity I had for solids a couple of days ago. It's time to listen closely to my temple, cherish and respect it. ♥
A friend and I are planning a 10-day juice fast for the month of March. ;)
Thank you all for your support during this time! It has been an absolute pleasure.

climb... i teach my children to recognize when hormones are reacting/acting in their body. this way as they get older they know... "oh okay this is hormones not true emotions" and they can go pamper themselves and not react to whatever is going on.
it's a valuable tool and one i wish i had been taught when i was an 11 year old.
you can teach yourself now. start to focus on what is causing your un-ease and then 'label' it. let your conscious self know that you know what it is, and you honour that process but will not react to it. it's extremely empowering!

i am fasting to experience a deeper spiritual existence.
i am fasting to aid in my development.
i am fasting to allow... to allow the flow of life to come into my being in a way that it simply does not do when my body is dealing with digesting solids. only a faster understands this one... and i know i'm in good company with this goal.
i am here... naked before you... bearing my soul... and ready to manifest my life with renewed vibrancy.

Aleesha Sattva

it is easier. i was sitting here thinking about what makes it ease for me.
i fast when my body asks for it. i don't fast when it doesn't. so my body is done with food when i choose to fast. therefore, not consuming solids isn't as difficult because my head is IN the fast.
i notice that if i 'crave' something when i'm fasting... i look at where the craving came from. was it from a commercial? did i just remember there was X, Y or Z in the house? did one of the kids mention they wanted something? where did this come from? what popped it into my head. And then... i acknowledge that it isn't real. it's just a thought... that's all it is. not unlike a thought to fly over the tree tops, to do a somersault from one high building to another. nothing i need to do... it was just a thought is all.
i also acknowledge that this is a choice. i don't have to do this... i am choosing to do this. that changes things. it's no longer a prison - a limitation - a doing-without but rather... it's what i want to do in this moment. very empowering... very empowering indeed when you look at it that way.
just a few ponderings... from the mind of Aleesha...
OK, I am IN. Was going to begin Tues. but started this AM. :)
(Tues. was only a goal as I didn't think I'd get to shop before Mon. but I have.)
One tall glass down...
This is my first fasting experience so I don't know what to expect other than what others say. I am not setting a goal, I think I will do better with telling myself "I am fasting today" and make that decision anew each morning.
:)

i was thinking about what you said on previous page Aleesha, in respect to myself.
The other day I was wondering, what makes Yoga such an important thing for me? Why do I feel better when I am doing this, than I do at other times in my day?
I think it is because, when i am doing yoga, I am very PRESENT in my body, in the moment. It is one time in my day, when I am very conscous and making the choice to be AWARE of my body, my breath, and my thoughts, and the space/air around me. Then I sit or lie down after, and become even more conscoius of my thoughts, observe them, like one would a river or the sky.
I realized that it is not that Yoga is better than other things that I do, for my health, it is that, being PRESENT and non-reactive, is better! If I took these things I practice DURING yoga, into my every moment of life, I would feel just as good about every moment, and more open to new thought, move away from reflexive thinking and doing.
I am doing this when I am listening to people talk now, and I am doing it when I am sitting on the subway, and I am doing this when I am feeding my body with juices or food or a face mask or massage...
any thoughts on this?

So true Aleesha it is empowering. I have no desire for food right now and it is lovely. I am feeling a bit like you now in the sense of 'once you fast you dont want to stop'. I fasted yesterday instead of feasting and even though i was excited for all my lovely feast juices today i feel sad now that i am not in the fasting mode. I feel much more fragile and a little tired/weak when i fast but i love the feeling, I spend lovely times daydreaming as I cuddle in my bed, I pamper my body and let it work. I feel I may have to alternate fasting and feasting days now because I already miss it.

nadien, that is my goal every moment of every day. to be fully present (mindful). i find it brings me greater joy, deeper bliss and instead of wishing for 'insert future moment here'... i sit within THIS moment and honour, cherish and fully enjoy it.
i know that when i'm at the end of this life, i'll know that i'll have enjoyed each moment i experienced and focused on them.
rawlala, i'm not sure what fasting and feasting mean to you. here's what they mean to me. fasting is less than 4 litres of juice, feasting is 4 litres or more. so your posts confuse me cause i'm not sure what your definition is.
i woke up with morning smiling. my body feels so right, so here, so present... so alive and soooooo much less 'full'. ahhhhh i love this bliss.
Rawlala
01-22-2011, 01:31 PM
on feasting days i get 4 quarts of juice, fasting i cut everything in half about. I feel pretty much close to normal with energy etc on feasting days
I am using the definition from the juice feasting website no fiber
Aleesha Sattva
01-22-2011, 03:46 PM
okay so you are using the same definition as i am. i don't feel a difference when i fast or feast... interesting that you are. other than your energy levels... any other differences you are experiencing?
cause (in my opinion) it takes 3 days for your body to adjust to less or more... (hence why the first three days of fasting is usually more difficult) - because your body is still using energy from your feasting days on your fasting days (when you switch to water from juice you really notice it... still takes three days to get 'there')... so it's wonderful your body is so sensitive and you are so aware.
just got home. my organic pillow and wool topper is here for my bed... i'm off to create a new sleeping space for myself!!!
and to make juice.
and to take a bodytalk session, then two different reiki attunements (healing attunement and then an attunement-attunement)... so it's a big wonderful day for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Rawlala
01-22-2011, 06:49 PM
Yeah I do think my body is pretty sensitive but I also added in the Master Cleanse and that always gets me into detox and i feel very differently very quickly. That may be why, cause I used green juice and the lemonade, not pure juice.
I'm super stoked to give fasting a go! I'm going to try out the Master Cleanse. I mean, how can you go wrong with lemon, maple syrup, and cayenne (YUM!). Anyhow, it's been almost a full year since I was here last, and I forgot how much I missed the feeling of purpose here...happy to meet you all :D

Hello all!!! :)
I'll be fasting for one day tomorrow!!! It's been awhile and looking forward to it. I need it big time!! I love the feeling I get when I fast, it makes feel like I'm in a very sacred place with deep founding solitude which makes my body feel such a harmonious silence! I look forward to it!!!
Oh and Aleesha, I like your pondering that you had the other day. I like what you had to say about, it's what I want to do, it's not a prison or a limitation or a doing without...... It really clicked something for me!! Thank you for sharing that!!

So, yesterday was day 4 of my latest juice fast. Woke with strong abdominal pain & fever. Both progressed throughout the day. At 6pm I decieded to go to the er. By 11pm I was in the or for an emergency appendectomy! Wow what a day. Feeling SO much better!!
'they' want me to eat before leaving the hospital so I willbe gently breaking my fast tomorrow. Thankfully DH will be bringing me good food to break with, no yucky hospital food. If all is well in'their' eyes and I go home (fingers crossed) I will drink mostly juice. after general anesthetic and pain meds I need to purify!! Any recommendations for good green juice recipes to speed the process??
Light & energy are much appreciated!!
I feel so grateful. the conversation recent postings about mindfullness have been so timely. It is my lifes work to be present and explore the depth of my being. Looks like I will have plenty of time for meditation as I heal!
Hoping for a reiki session from a friend!!
Thank you!

Mindful- What a scary ordeal! I'm so glad you went to the ER when you did. I hope you will be back to feeling great in no time!
Still doing my routine w/ some 24-36 hour fasts thrown in. Very much into the earthing mat and using a band at work as well. Three of us have been sharing mine, but one girl just got her own and I got another one as well so the other girl will be able to use my extra one. The one girl got her mom a mat and her mom is using it every day and has been off of pain meds for 5 days now! She is excited! My mom is sleeping better with hers. I never realized how being grounded could make such a difference. Between that and the fasting and all our other natural practices, I think 2011 will bring me better health than ever before!

I'm feeling groovy today to juice!! I'm gonna try this combo for this morning...pear/celery/raw honey. I never juiced pear before and I'm sure I'll like!!
Here's what I'm fasting for!!!
~To heighten my meditation/prayer mode.
~Be more and more in the frame of mind to the highest potential that God has create me to be as time goes on.
~ Having no fear and know all is in Good Hands!
~ Be a positive magnet and give positve back out.
~ Learning how to make many good friends and be the best friend I can be!
~ Choosing that all is good in my world everyday!!
Hi Missy, I send you an e-mail about the Earthing Mat about how it works....does it connect to an outlet, do I have to set up a connection outside, or how does it work. I'm interested, because I missed the feeling of being grounded outside. I used to work alot outside in the past. Any personal insight into this would be great, thanks!

DAY 20 for me!!! YAY. I am down 9lbs in 20 days of feasting, with one fasting day thrown in so far. I think i will do two days feast, one day fast...so on and so on.
I feel good and I LOVE my juices. I am still doing the same juices since I got into a groove near the beginning. I love them and they are the best price wise.
Aiming for day 60 which I feel I will accomplish with ease, but I am wondering if I am going to want to go further (PROBABLY YES). However I am moving back to LA around day 57 so I will have to figure out how to continue because the huge champion juicer is not coming with me. And ill probably be crashing somewhere on a couch with friends til i get my new apt. So MAster cleanse lemonade will be helpful and I may see if there is a juice bar nearby that I can grab a couple juices at each day. I have several modeling open calls the week I arrive so i am crossing my fingers that everything works smoothly. I feel God leading me and helping me, He has slowly brought me out of this sickness and I feel very calm and optimistic about the future. YAY

There is a very important message in here for fasters and raw foodists alike. So often I hear "it's just detox" and when I try to explain that it's not always detox people often dismiss what I'm saying. This is my point (what happened to you) exactly! Life still happens when you are raw or fasting. Dis-ease can still occur. We are not immune to it. Take your health seriously... don't dismiss things.
I'm sooooooooo glad you didn't dismiss this. (((hugs))) So glad.

Congrats on day 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow is three weeks for you! I'm sure LA is full of juice bars... I know Vancouver is (well at least it was 15 years ago when I lived there... I figure there's more there now)

Fun question!!! If you were to describe your true inner beauty......how would you describe it! i just made a lovely blend.
large pineapple
lots of kale
celery
2 small oranges
lemon
8 apples
2 kiwi
All mixed up together and it made 2.5 litres of juice. I'm sipping on 500ml now.
shining star in the night... that is how i'd describe it. of course, if i could use other words to describe it it would sound like this:
My true inner beauty is timeless and endless. When you look at pictures of the our galaxy and others around ours... that is the image that comes to mind. Not just one star, one planet... but all of them together blending together into a tapestry of unique ever-changing beauty.

I would share mine. but mine is not appropriate for the fasting thread. It's food related, that's why. I'll blog about inner beauty in the near future.
I found some incense called "Hope". Smells so good!! It's a mixture of cloves and vetiver.
The pear/lemon/raw honey juice was so very satisfying!!! :D

Jumping back in after a season of toxic eating.
Was thinking about Master Cleanse, but decided to go back to green smoothies. All smooties or juices, nothing solid that has to be chewd times forty days.
Goals:
Cleanse my palate.
Focus on spiritual.
Detox.
Break addiction to a particularly addicting food.
Face the sense of emptiness or lack inside.
In Oct / Nov I broke my addiction to caffeine in all its forms. Seems like if I can do that, this one ought to be easy, but I've really struggled.
I have trips coming up, and I'm thinking about getting a blender for travel so that I don't have to water fast on those special days. It has to have enough power to make a decent smoothie but not be so heavy that I can't pack the other stuff I want to carry with.
Feeling some sad emotions as I walk into this. Relationship issues, giving up foods that have been friends to me, albeit not health supporting friends. Setting the intention that THIS time, I'll make the final, permanent jump into BE-ing a raw foodist.

Ahhhh I love my life.
Lady Aredhel... we'll be fasting together this week!!!!!!! I'm super excited about that.
Welcome d... i agree with you - if you are doing smoothies going to water and then back again could be a little hard on your body... it would put your digestion to sleep and then awaken it... hard to continue fasting once you've awakened your digestion (at least in my experience).
*dancing and spinning...* off to have some more of my pineapple juice. it's sooooo good!

Good Morning Fasters!
I will be here joining you beginning tonight/tomorrow for the next however long. I am starting to post today as I see it as a way to truly commit to this next fast. I will write why I am chosing to fast but I would prefer not to further discuss the why (at least...this thread is not the place) and simply honor the fast.
I will be fasting as my body passes my unborn child. I feel this will be the healthiest choice for me. Fasting will allow my body to cleanse and heal and I know fasting will allow my emotions and grief to release themselves from my body and help me to heal. This is not an unknown grief for me but I need to find a more healthy way to gieve, and since my 21 day fast this autumn, I feel this is what will be best.
Tonight I will start with apple/pear/ginger juice. This juice brings me warmth and comfort and is exactly what I want and need. Will probablly have more of this juice tomorrow but maybe without pears. Off to check the juice thread for more juicy ideas.

Oh Cathy you should live here. The crocuses will be coming up very soon... we usually get a dump in mid-Feb but after that... it's all spring-time weather!!!

Treated myself to 30 oz of a mango/pineapple/orange/apple juice mixture this morning ... it was sweet and a nice way to start the morning. .. different than my usual total green juice.
Aleesha - so glad to read that you are feeling better! So nice of your hubby to fetch all that wonderful food for you!
Oh wow - talk of crocuses already! ahhhhh - What lovely visions that conjures up. I'll be glad when the snow melts around here so I can see the actual ground. :)

i will make room for all of you cathy... no problem at all!!!
my dis-ease is more in my upper body area... like my head and throat. it comes and goes... my daughter isn't doing well. i'm sooooo hoping she wakes up today feeling better but it's standard (sadly) with her than when she gets sick she's very slow to recover. i'm planning on getting her some items from the health food store (hopefully today) for her to start taking daily to increase her immune system.
i have a gorgeous HUGE pineapple on my counter begging to be juiced!!! and how can i say no to that!

So... *crickets chirping*... this thread is pretty quiet... I'm wondering if I should start a Feb. thread to get things moving and grooving again?
I know I'm not fasting in this moment... just going with the flow at this point. Ready to fast if the spirit moves me...
Ah heck... I'll go start one now. It's always nice to start a little early... before the first of the month and this month is close to being over anyways.
