I just had a green smoothie containing a lot of round green cabbage. It has caused a burning sensation in my mouth and throat and now I feel lousy. Any knowledge of this? Had I not washed it thoroughly or is green cabbage renowned for this?

oh man that sucks. i know i get horrid gas pains etc when i just it...
I've never added cabbage to a green smoothie. I'd recommend sticking to leafy greens and keeping the cabbage for salads. *Ü*

Thanks. It appears tonight I have learnt a horrible lesson about what goes into a green smoothie and how to blend it. I will be learning from this.

I've used cabbage in a mixed veggie juice. It must be consumed immediately after juicing. I don't know why, I haven't wanted to find out. I don't juice it often, it is strong on the tummy.

I always throw a chunk of purple cabbage in my smoothie.

I never ever eat raw, juiced or cooked cabbage. I diligently tried it before and used to experience irritability afterwards. I think that's a prelude to really trashing my digestive tract.
But I'm happy to report that when its fermented, I really thrive on it. So after a long drawn out learning process, I've perfected how to make sauerkraut and its a staple in my winter diet.
But that's just little old me.....

either cabbage or brussel sprouts have sulfur compounds in them. I cant remember which. Maybe both? Are you sensitive to sulfa drugs?
