I'm a newbie and I'm curious about coconuts. I tried one for the first time and I don't understand how you eat them, it was hard as a rock. Someone explain this to me please.

How many different kinds? Any advice on what kind to get?

What can you do with a coconut/ how can they be incorporate into your diet?

How do they get coconut oil? You have the meet and the water, where's the oil come from?

Coconut oil is suppose to be good for your hair. Is it good for anything else? I've got dry skin does it make a good lotion?

Basically, anything you know about coconuts, I'd like to know. Thank you.

I only buy young thai coconuts, because the meat is soft on the inside and you get more coconut water. I buy them from Whole Foods. The matured coconuts with the brown husk have thicker, but harder meat and less water.

You need to buy a good machete to get them open. I found regular kitchen butcher knives to be less sturdy and don't grip the shell best. I felt like I was gonna chop off my hand accidently with a butcher knife. So I bought a machete for $12 online.

I don't like to eat the meat as much, since it taste flavorless to me, rubbery and slimey. I like to put the meat and the water in the blender and make coconut milk and add it to smoothies.

You can find a video on youtube to see how to open a coconut. Its not hard when you know what to do.

Look at this site for some good info on coconut oil.
