It does not matter if I slip up...I am not defined by a single action, but by who I am day in and day out. I just wanted to post here to keep myself accountable. I've had a really rough and stressful week- its the production week for my college's play and I have been at late night rehearsals and performances almost non-stop. I've noticed that the sleep deprivation and emotional unbalance has really built up and this week I have eaten SAD junk three times...almost uncontrollable stress urges. It's so frustrating because in those moments I honestly feel like I dont care if I eat crap, even though I know I will care in just 15 minutes. I posted earlier about needing support, but mainly I just do not want to allow myself to slip into negative emotions and self-destructive patterns. It scared me because for awhile today I felt like I was back in last year when I was lost in an endless stuggle with binge eating and addiction to refined carbs and sugar. So this post is to make sure that there are people who know what's going on with me and wont let me slip away.. I refuse to go back into the hellish life i used to live.
I totally sympathize Callie. I've been a binge eater for years and years and have only recently been able to begin to get past it. You are on the right track. Knowing is half the battle. You'll get there.

You are so much more aware now Callie, and it will make a difference.
Your thought processes are changing and they dont change overnight. You're doing wonderfully. You ARE a raw foodiest!

Yes, you are a raw foodist even when you eat SAD food. Lately I've been realizing that I can call myself a raw foodist even when I slip and eat SAD, and I can call myself a vegan when I slip and eat dairy. I am a vegan raw foodist doing my best. We're all behind you!

I believe it is all in the intent...what is in your heart of hearts and soul. I agree with you Callie. I have been eating raw for almost 2 years now and though I have slipped a many a time, I have ALWAYS consider myself a rawie (though I really prefer not to label myself) but raw is a lifestyle choice for me, not a temporary fad diet. I think that also makes the difference. When it's a lifestyle choice, you know you are transitioning to it for life and it may take longer to "fully arrive" at your destination or there will be bumps in the road along the way. But either way, you are on the path and you are living it.

Callie,
I love your post, not because of your struggles though (it's really tough, and I'm sorry to hear about them), but rather your reaching out and committment! That's what it takes. It takes committment inside you that only you can truly know if you're committed, and committment to a group. Reaching out for those seemingly endless resources to help you along is a great source for support and knowledge. This IMO becomes much easier to deal with when you have such awesome people on this board to share everything with, and they with you.
Good for you for making that committment, and letting people know about your situation. We are all here to help you, and the many others.
Be good to yourself,
Tim
hey remember, even the most chickenfried, medicated, unaware, lumberjack is a rawfoodist... they just don't know it yet.
i've come to feel like an ideal of '100% rawfoodist' was marketted back in the day to make folks feel like they 'needed' to buy books, go to lectures, attend retreats, spend money on exotic sounding stuff... it was a false division created to promote a 'movement'...
ironically, and quite disappointingly some raw authors are claiming that not 'everyone can be a 100% rawfoodist... except for me, buy my book, supplements, retreats, cds...' ...it's especially disappointing when these folks pushed the loudest for the '100% raw or nothing' mindset before they figured a more inclusive message would get them more money.
what i find so pitiable about that stance, is that i truely and deeply believe that EVERYONE (yes even you) CAN be 100% raw... while also acknowleging that there are other ways to be healthy at the same time... everyone CAN do it, and EVERYONE CAN have AMAZING health, non-matter what percentage of rawfoods they include in their diets...
i totally support EVERYONE'S RIGHT to have vibrant health, even if i reconize that a 'rawfood diet' (be it 80-2000%) is one of the fastest most effective, easiest, and enjoyable ways to experience this...
i give people the space to become healthy
you're doing GREAT Callie, keep up the good work!!!
focus on how much MORE rawfood you're eating, than focusing on how much less cooked food subtracts from that... you'll be fine
