This is hilarious!!!! I just came back from Whole Foods and bought exactly the same thing!!!!!

A good friend told me about it. Not sure how I'll fix it, but I'll let you know!

Are these just "sprouts" of the quinoa and lentils that look like good ol' alfalfa sprouts? I can picture lentil sprouts, but a little fuzzy one the already-sprouted quinoa since it's a seed. Is it in the produce section? Will be checking this out.

I just now came across these recipes, so I thought I'd post them on your thread :) They both look really good ~ I'll be trying the Salad soon! (quinoa is super easy and SO fast to sprout! Our Costco carries organic quinoa!) *Ü*

Marinated Quinoa Salad

3 C sprouted quinoa
1/4 C olive oil
1 Tbsp tamari
juice of one lemon
juice of 1/2 lime
2 cloves garlic, minced
handful of fresh mint, rough chopped
10 grape tomatoes, sliced
1/2 onion, diced
1 cucumber, chopped
1/2 C red bell pepper, chopped
handful of goji berries

Marinate sprouted quinoa for 20 minutes in olive oil, tamari, citrus juices and garlic. Add mint, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, goji berries and toss. Serve on a bed of red and green leaf lettuce.

Quinoa Raisin Cookies
yields two dozen

1 C quinoa, soaked overnight and rinsed well
1 C almond meal **
1/2 C local raw honey or agave nectar
1 C raisins, soaked
2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of sea salt

Place quinoa, almond meal, honey, cinnamon and salt in a food processor and process until dough-like. Transfer dough to a large bowl and hand mix in the raisins.

Using a spoon for scooping, place small dollops on a dehydrator tray lined with a Teflex sheet. Use the bottom of a drinking glass to gently flatten. Tip: Wipe the bottom of the glass between cookies to prevent sticking.

Dehydrate at 105 degrees for 4 hours. Remove the Teflex sheet. Dehydrate another 4 hours. Climate, temperature and humidity all affect dehydrating time. The cookies should be crispy on the outside and still moist inside.

**Almond meal is raw, whole almonds that have been finely ground. I like Trader Joe’s brand and you can’t beat the price.

Deb!!!!!!! You're the absolute BEST!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! I bought some Sprouted Quinoa, so I'm gonna make the 1st recipe right now! I'm wondering...for the 2nd recipe, could I just use this sprouted one, or should I resoak it? Or, should I just use fresh and soak that?

Thx,
Nee

Hi Renee ~ That salad recipe really caught my eye! I've made a different sprouted quinoa recipe and I just didn't care much for it. But I think this one that's "marinated" will do the trick!

So the sprouted quinoa you bought -- the quinoa has been sprouted and then dehydrated or dried?

If so, I would think for both of these recipes the quinoa needs to be wet not dry (hard).

I believe for the cookie recipe you could resoak the (I'm assuming) dried quinoa you have.

But for the salad, I would start with regular (unsprouted) quinoa and sprout it fresh. You'll see that quinoa simply by soaking it overnight will already have sprouted. But for the salad, personally I'd soak it overnight and let it sprout the next day.

Here's a video of another salad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=487VK0YMWvA)I've tried - but it will give you a good idea of what the sprouted Q looks like. Hope this helps. Be sure and let us know how the salad is. I can't make it for a week or so, but I'm looking forward to it! *Ü*

I sprouted some quinoa a few weeks ago, but when I ate it in a salad I got a headache, then my stomach did not feel right for days after, really hard to describe, kind of like feeling full or like my stomach had stuff sitting in it for days.
is there something special you need to do with sprouting quinoa?
i did the ususal sprouting method of giving it a good rinse first, then a few cycles of rinse and drain for a couple of days. it sprouts really quick! wondering if i did something wrong which could have caused the quinoa not to agree with me.
any ideas?

I'm still experimenting, but I find (so far at least) I just don't really care for sprouted grains (vs. steamed grains). So when I sprout it, I don't eat much at one sitting. From what I've read and watched - not everyone's digestive system can tolerate these raw sprouted grains & legumes.

I've tried sprouted lentils too and I just can't get on board yet with them.

I really don't think it's your method that caused problems... I know we're not supposed to discuss cooking here, but I do steam lentils and will try steamed quinoa soon too. *Ü*

Well, I'm not feelin' the Sprouted Quinoa... It's crunchy...I guess I expected it to be soft after marinating for the Salad listed above... Deb, I prob need to try it freshly soaked like you suggested...

Yea, I'm with ya on the Lentils...just can't handle them sprouted. Although, Alissa's recipe for the Buffalo Lentil Tenders are good! But, I don't care for them in a salad....

My friend adds sprouted quinoa to the (raw) banana shakes he drinks for when he works out, they're quite delicious. ;D

I can't really say that mine were crunchy. But I think what I started with might be different than what you used? I used plain quinoa, soaked overnight and then sprouted probably at least 24 hours. It wasn't their texture that bothered me, but like the lentils as well - it's the "rawness" taste of them, sort of too starchy tasting? We're not alone in this though Renee, I've read a lot of people say the same thing.

A question though - did you sprout them after soaking overnight, or did you use the dried ones (if that is indeed what you were describing in your post?)

HI all, great ideas here.

About the trader joes quinoa, it is hard/dry, so i prepared it both lightly steamed and also soaked some. I mixed them together and had with some lightly steamed sweet potato (i like to have cooked dinners from time to time). I didn't soak it long enough for it to get "soft" but it does have directions on the package to soak (i forger for how long) before eating.

The cookie recipe sounds wonderful! I do NOT own a dehydrator, is it possible to use a low setting on the oven???

Thx :)

Deb, the first salad recipe is delicious! I am a bit low on goji berries so i also added in some raisins. The raisins are really good in it. Thanks again for another wonderful recipe :throwhearts: The cookies sound really good, and so does the salad video, i will have to put that one on my list

I guess I've shied away from a sprouted quinoa salad because I just didn't care for the flavor or sp. quinoa. But I wonder because this one is marinated if that would make a nice difference. Thanks for posting back GreenT - glad it worked out for you! *Ü*
