Hi. I was wondering, has anyone ever tried grinding raw cacao nibs in a vitamix? And if so, how did it turn out? And are there any other ways (besides the mortar & pestol) for making cacao nibs into a powder? What's the best approach?

I have done it in bothe the vitamix and the coffee grinder.
It is not great and you do not het a great taste of chocolate from the results but not too bad either.
I have used it in ice cream and in a banana smoothie.

I have not had them ever grind up fine enough. I had to buy the powder to get that real chocolate experience. However I use the nibs for crunchy in chocolates I make.

Those little things never grind up very fine at all... but I'm one of the few people who can sit there and eat them whole and plain and not think anything of it. It's an amazing kind of insanity..
I love them to death nonetheless and use them in super smoothies and desserts for myself but when I make chocolate for others I always just seek out the best cocoa powder I can, some people just can't get over the bitterness and crunch.

I am glad I didn't buy cocoa nibs. I just buy raw chocolate powder from Whole Foods.

yeah, I like eating the beans whole, with the skin on too. and maybe a few dates to go with them :)

I never liked the ups and downs one would get with chocolate, not to mention the headaches.

It's strange why it tastes so horrid by itself - unless you're exposed to it years and years.. like who likes plain coffee when they taste it for the first time?

Would it be a good idea to only eat foods that taste wonderful plain, by themselves?
