I know what coconut milk is made of and I know what coconut water is, so what, if anything, is it called when you combine the water and the meat of a young coconut and blend it up?

I did that and that is probably the best tasting stuff ever! I used some in a nut/chocolate/date combo as the blending liquid and then I drank some and then I used some in a smoothie with frozen pineapples which was the best of all!

I guess not a seriously important question because I will use it no matter what it is called, but I was just curious.

I guess it could be called milk. :)

When you see the coconut milk in cane from the store, it is made of the water and the meat if you read the ingredient.

So if you made it this way, it is without question a milk.

Mmmm, yummy! I love coconut milk, but I never end up making it because I always end up eating the meat before it gets in the blender! By the way, one of my favorite meals is ceviche with coconut meat in place of that crab stuff. So good, so good, I think I'm going to make it tonight!

The definition of coconut milk depends on which raw recipe book you are using. I have several books which describe how to make coconut milk by blending the water and meat of a young white coconut. However, in Alissa's new book, "Raw Food for Everyone", the recipe for the coconut milk used in her recipes is dried coconut flakes blended with water and strained through a nut milk bag.

Whatever you call it, I love the milk made by blending the contents of a young coconut. Haven't tried the other method yet, but I will. :)

sidrah, the only dumb question is the one you DON'T ask. your question was perfectly fine.

p.s. In her book "Living Raw Food", Sarma Melngailis has a recipe for raw coconut yogurt made with young coconut meat and bio-K. it would probably be good if you fermented it a little.

Me too! I always envision making heaps of things with my young coconuts, but i never get past drinking the water and scooping out the meat straight into my mouth!

They day which I witnessed the price in my town for Thai coconuts go from $1.39 each to $2.99 each was the day I found a new definition for the word "tragedy" :(
