My natural co-op is no longer gettting raw pine nuts in due to them being overly priced. They are unable to sell them at a resonable cost anymore so they are not going to be getting them in anymore. So my question is, what nuts are comperable in taste to pine nuts. In many recipes pine nuts are what is being used. What nuts would you subsitute in their place for most recipes in general. .

Macadamia nuts are usually subbed with pinenuts - for the higher fat content & similar texture :)
I am the manager at a Health Food Store & I haven't been able to get them for MONTHS....they have been out of stock & the prices have gone through the roof.....hmmmm

I know, the pine nuts having been missing at the co-op for months and so I finally asked them why. Then I got the answers that they were going for like $37 a pound and he knew no one could buy them at that price so he is not getting them anymore. Thanks for the info on the mac nuts. I will give them a try. What are you thoughts on just using cashews. I know they are hard to find raw. I was even thinking of just almonds even though I know they would not be the same texture wise but they are only $5.20 a pound. Great deal for raw almomds.

I would use cashews before almonds for a creamier texture....
Do the best you can with "raw" nuts.....seems like there is always "something" with whatever we choose that isn't "truely raw".....are you eating better than you were? If the answer is "Yes"....that's all that matters....;)
