Hi everyone. My name is Krissy, and I am from Michigan. I have wanted to start a raw food lifestyle for the past two years, but my food and other addictions keep pulling me back.

I quit smoking three years ago after smoking for 11 years, and my body has been on a rollercoaster ever since. When I first quit smoking, I felt worse than when I smoked. I was suddenly diagnosed with IBS, interstitial cystitis, and endometriosis within 2 months of quitting smoking. Looking back and knowing what I know now, this was my body’s way of trying to cleanse itself of all the years of toxic buildup. After doing bikram yoga for about 5 months, all the symptoms of these conditions have disappeared.

In the past three years, I have gained around 80 pounds, and I am ready to make some necessary changes in my life. I am 27 years old, and I am about to graduate with my master’s degree in social work. I feel like I need to get my own life in order before I can help others. I feel like people won’t take me seriously because I am so overweight.

Currently, I drink way too much. I think I just traded one bad behavior for another when I quit smoking. My food addiction is actually linked to my drinking, as I generally only indulge after a few drinks. I am ready to rid myself of these addictions and live a healthy life. I have been eating raw foods and juicing for breakfast for the past week or so. I have been doing a lot of research on juice fasting, and I am ready to take on the challenge of a 30 day juice fast. I know it will be uncomfortable at first, but it will be worth it in the long run. I think that the fast will help me get rid of my addictions and detox my body.

Just wishing you the best of luck. You sound determined and motivated. Ask yourself what would make this difficult to stick to and please come here for the advice you may need to rectify that.

I think the biggest challenge for me in completeing a 30 day juice fast will be my schedule. I am off from school until the 10th - that is why I decided to start the fast yesterday - so I could get the worst of the detox out of the way while I could be home resting. After next Monday, my life will be crazy again. I take 16 credits this semesters, and I will be doing a 20+ hour a week internship, and this has been my schedule for the past 9 months, too. I got used to eating a lot of fast food because I was too busy to cook. I have planned ahead and bought myself 2 stainless steel bottles that are airtight. I tried one out yesterday to see how it kept the juice. I left it in the bottle for about 10 hours in the fridge, and it was good. These two bottles along with my lunchbox and ice pack will allow me to take juice with me even on the days where I am gone for 10-12 hours at a time.

The other challenge I face is being around my daughter and husband while they eat. Not sure how to prepare for that one, but I have made myself an index card that I am carrying around with me. The plan is that when I feel frustrated and want to give in, I can pull out the index card to remind me why I am fasting.

Hello! Good luck.. you seem motivated for sure, as others before me have pointed out. Once you first start raw some days will be awesome and some days will be difficult. Be prepared for detox symptoms and stay strong. Because when you reap the rewards of this healthy lifestyle you will wonder why you didn't do this sooner.

As far as being around people who eat cooked... I live with my mother and brother. They both are SAD eaters. It was difficult at first but once I got in my groove, I actually was quite disgusted with watching them eat. KNowing what was going into their body. It became my motivator. Its also gotten them to eat healthier, since I always have fresh fruit and veggies in the house. Maybe your daughter and husband will gain health from you as well!

Anyways. Glad to have you here.
