I had a "cheap" (not really CHEAP) Hamilton Beach, which I used for years....but the CHEAP plastic it was made of actually....a piece broke off from underneath the blades and was in our FOOD and didn't know it was in our FOOD until DH bit into and almost broke his tooth!!!

SOOOOO, now I need to get a new one. These appliances are NOT cheap, and I have extremely limited funds. I will have to SAVE or wait for tax return time to get a new one. I don't want to go over $100 if possible, but will spend extra if I KNOW it is an exceptional product. I want something that is made of a higher quality plastic rather than the really THIN, CHEAP plastic my Hamilton Beach was made of. It doesn't have to be HUGE, but at least big enough to support recipes for dehydrating, etc.

THANKS, I KNOW THIS GROUP WILL GIVE ME SOME HONEST OPIONIONS!! If you tell me you LOVE your processor, can you give me reasons (ie. it has a big veggie chute, or it's simple to work, or it's "sturdy") Thanks again.

I got an 11 cup Cuisinart 15 years ago and it is still going strong. Cuisinart is one of the 'Cadillac' models of food processors and well worth the money.

It does have a big veggie chute, is very easy to operate, and obviously is quite sturdy.

If I ever do need to replace my Cuisinart, I'll buy another one ... more than likely what will happen is that the bowl will eventually crack rather than the motor crapping out. In that case (cracked bowl), I'll just buy another bowl.

I just bought the 11 cup cuisinart yesterday at Macy's. It was originally $179 and on sale for $99. Not sure how long the sale was supposed to last. You could check online also, since that is where I found out about the sale.

Here's another vote for the Cuisinart. Years ago my neighbor gave me her MIL's old Cuisinart and I fell in love. My husband bought me the new 11C model at Costco about 6 years ago. It's a workhorse and I love it! I think the 11C model is around $150 at Costco - so that sale at Macy's is fantastic!

I use all 4 attachments that came with mine: S blade, and the 3 discs: shredding, 2mm slicing and 4 mm slicing. I love the large food chute it has too. *Ü*

I was leaning towards a Cuisenart, even though I know it is more pricey....maybe I can find one on sale!!! Thanks for the info!

DO NOT get a new Cuisenart, they are junk. Mine is a peice of junk. I have had it two years and it smells like the moter is burning when I try to chop dates or almonds. Look for an older model or an industrial one if you want this brand.
