straining bag

If I buy one at the hardware store/Home Depot, how can I be sure it is safe for food? Is there not some kind of paper-y or waxy substance on it ? Or is it all mesh? I would think it doesn't specifically say "Can be used for food".

Am I looking for something specific?

i use the paint straining bags from the paint department. ;)

I'll grab one and see how it works. I have cheesecloth somewhere, too. I'll experiment. Thanks
