Would love some responses -
I did a week of raw with a few cooked meals, and felt great. But doesn't the cooked meals (stir fry, veggies) defeat the purpose of the raw results?

I did my best on Chritmas, but boy did I feel the difference. My energy and mind went right back to my gut. After the week of raw I felt light, my energy and mind was were it was supposed to be.

For healh reasons, I am wanting to go all raw but wouldn't mind a sweet potato during the week. What other cooked foods would b good to hve so as not to ruin how I feel.

Thnks. much appreciated.

Your next line answers your question.

This site is created for the purpose of assisting folk in eating raw, not in telling how to eat cooked and get raw results per the mission statement and rules for posting.

Best thing to do? Do the experiment and feel the results. :)

If you need to eat sweet potatoe make sure that more than 50% of the meal is raw and that you eat the raw first.
You would feel better if you did not eat any cooked if you can do it as it is an addiction and you will be feeding that addiction and you will never get free of it.

Do the 30 day challange and you will never look back. 30 days is enough to get the need for cooked food out of your body.
After that cooked food will just seem tasteless to you.

The point of eating raw is to get the nutrients that are destroyed by cooking, so even if you are not eating 100% you will get those nutrients and it is DEFINITELY not a waste of effort to be high raw. You'll see improvements and that will encourage you to do more raw.

Alissa says that making exception with cook food is the same as if you have an addiction with alcohol and make an exception once in a while. Going 100% raw will set your free from this bound with cook food. Cook food is addictive and making exception will always keep you one foot in the cook world by having craving.

Now focus always on your accomplishment. Don't make excuse for eating cook food neither feeling guilty for eating it because it feeds the addiction. Instead focus always on your accomplishment and be proud of you for making room for the good stuff.

Sometime making exception to help the transition to 100% raw food can be ok only if you aren't a compulsive eater. If you are a compulsive eater, it is far better that you go cold turkey and just go with 100% raw. There aren't that many that can do this. Personally, when i made exception, not only that i struggle to desire raw food again because it doesn't become appealing again, but the craving would never cease and i would be in total struggle. 100% raw food is when i feel the best and totally free. Making exception, i can never find peace and i need to eat more food then if i do only 100% raw.

One great way to eat raw sweet potatoes is to make a lovely white sauce ( i like macadamia nut), then mix them with other veggies such zucchini cube, celery etc.... and green onion. If raw organic corn is available and raw green peas, it is lovely to mix them with those vegetables.

Your craving for cook food will heal but will remain as long as you make exception.

I would say you need to ask yourself 'why the temptation to eat cooked foods?' Maybe you are not eating enough during the day and the classic lure of cooked food is enticing you in. If you get enough nutrition during the day cooked food will not be enticing. Eat plenty of fruit, it's palatable and full of nutrition unlike cooked food which is palatable but not full of nutrition.

or perhaps you need to watch some dvd's on raw foods and the negative aspects of cooked food to raise your awareness and understanding of why raw foods are sooooooo much better for your body.

knowledge is empowering!

Thank you, all, for your replies. It's much appreciated.
I didn't know sweet potato can be eaten raw. I'll try it for lunch tomorrow.
I'll check out the 30 day challenge.
I went to the excellent health food store in our area whose staff know their stuff (one of which follows a raw food plan)- and bought some nutrients to put in my drinks and meals. I went shopping and my fridge is filled with organic veggies and my countertop is filled with bowls of organic fresh fruit. I also bought some frozen organic fruit for my smoothies, and greens for my green smoothies.
I've read other postings on this or other threads and notice that the smoothies that I make in the morning should be much more than 8 oz, which thrills me! And that I can have a few pieces of fruit all at one sitting. That also thrills me.
I've read alot on line, library, and B&N.
And will start looking at videos, etc.
I', fortunate to have a supportive husband, who for the most part does alot of juicing and smoothies with me.
I will stay close and hope all of you will help me thru my transition.
Thanks, again. Andie

I actually think you answered your question in the first sentence. You feel great, so what's the problem?
Keep on doing what you're doing and don't worry about "defeating the purpose" because that is totally not the case. Just don't eat junk, junk meaning foods that don't exist in the evolution of humans (unfortunately, most of what most Americans eat most of the time..)

Once you start feeling "bad" or even "not better" then it's time to change something. As long as you're on an uphill slope towards your own better health then what's the matter? You'll only get better if you follow how you FEEL, and if you FEEL worse eating certain foods then by all means experiment with yourself and cut things out/add things in!!
But in the meantime if your sentence holds, then exactly what you said.. raw lifestyle with some cooked food... works out for YOU right NOW.
We all change, just keep up with yourself, and yay for better health and learning. In the meantime, listen to everybody else, all share valuable advice... just be your own decision maker :)
