I am looking for glass or black straws -- not sure where people are finding them. Any ideas? My family drinks a lot of green smoothies and I dont want to have anyone dealing with teeth issues like I did.
just wondering.

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Glass Straws!!!! I've had them for several years now, never even broken one of them! They are fabulous for smoothies!!!!
I got mine online! I didn't use this one...I don't remember which one I used, but here's one with a photo of them:

There are MANY threads about them here on RFT! Just put glass straws in the search! :)

Hi! I bought mine online at oneluckyduck.com. They are currently offering a glass straw Christmas set- straw, cleaner and hemp bag to carry the straw around in. Great stocking stuffer!

Looked at the luckyduck site, but confused about what size to get. What do you suggest?
I ordered mine over a year ago from Glass Dharma (http://www.glassdharma.com/). I don't remember now the 'size' - but I did email them and ask which size was like a grocery store sized straw. They always respond promptly.
I've broken 2 straws. One I dropped on our cement basement floor and the other I broke sticking it in the BlendTec before the blades were stopped! Both straws were replaced completely free of charge.
Just a little tip - you might like to save the box the straws are shipped in incase you ever need it for packing to a trip, etc.
I've got the straws that have the little glass bubbles on the sides so they can't roll away ~ I *LOVE* my glass straws! I rinse them out as soon as I'm done with them and pop them in the dishwasher. *Ü*

I get mine from www.strawesome.com and I really recommend them. I got 2 sets off them, a coloured set and then some decorative ones. They replace them if they break (which they wont unless they fall on a tiled floor from a height- dont think they are blender proof either DebB ;) )
They also handwrote a thank you message on the bill which I thought was a nice touch.
here is one of their decorative straws

ok raw peeps! thank you so much for the replies - i will check out those sites -- Im leaning towards the glass straws.com site...
Any opinions on stainless steel straws? I am leery about those because I dont want to have to deal with possibly using them and have someone who may have a hidden or underlying nickel allergy ( i cant remember the breakdown of components..)
also I hear they can develop a weird taste in the mouth after a while..

oh thanks Stiggs! You posted a reply seconds before I did - I am planning to order from strawesome -- they have some COOOL straws! COlored ones too and nice pricing. I am also going to order some bent ones from glassstraws.com too.
Thanks everyone - this will be my Christmas present, since I plan to smoothie feast more exclusively in the new year :)
Blessings!

Slightly confused. Why would one use these? I get the not using plastic, but where is this better than plastic as far as teeth go? SOrry, but I have never even heard of these before right now. Thanks

first, they can be used again and again for years.
second, if you are drinking sweet juices... it saves your teeth from having the juice poured over them repeatedly.
third, if you love straws (like me)... it's an environmental way to use them!

Yes I love the straws they have. I have some bendy and all different designs but I always use a cool blue straight one for my juices. Its perfect in my jug for drinking while washing up without adjustment ;)
To wash them i normally just blast water at full whack through them for a second or two and hold it to the light to check its spick and span.
Let us know what you think of them. I cant drink a juice without them now

Uumm, please educate me. Why glass straw versus regular straw? I didn't know that regular straw could be an issue. If it is, i will order the glass.
Thankyou

1) environmental issue
2) plastic - personally i don't want any plastic in my life or near my food.
3) i loooooooooooove my glass straws!!! reuse, reuse, reuse!!!

I understand the reuse and the not using plastic but how does glass keep the juice from hitting your teeth less than plastic? I should have phrased it that way the last time. Sorry

Less juice hits your teeth when using a straw, be it plastic or glass, when compared to drinking without a straw.

Yes, I understand that; that's logical....that was why I was confused about the original post asking about glass straws because of dental problems. I thought maybe there was something I was not seeing. I understood the rest.

I also used glassstraws.com and had an excellent buying experience. Thank you ladies, for the recommendation.
A straw set I ordered came to my wife on Valentines day in perfect timing. The artisan at glassstraws.com was very attentive to my request and fashioned some straws very much to my satisfaction. I had a little different embellishment put on the top, rather than the dots. I explained an idea I had in an e-mail and they came out just as I had envisioned.
I have not seem them in person, only through pics sent first by the maker, then by my wife. I will be together with my wife in a couple weeks and may be able to post a picture of one then.
Thanks to the forum for allowing us to share our experiences and thanks to glassstraws.com for their fine crafsmanship and service.

Bringing this back up. I said I'd try to get you a picture of one of the straws. Lisa sent me this today saying shark fin and tiki glass were a good way to enjoy her smoothie.

they are.. they are really big... great for smoothies (if i drank smoothies LOL) my kids will enjoy them tremendously in the summer i'm sure. also... not that any of mine have broken in the years i've been using these daily... but... they are much thicker on the ends so they wouldn't chip easy.

I know its not good to use plastic, but why exactly? And if you dont use plastic does that mean you use all glass containers too? Not tupperware or anything like that?
Aleesha Sattva

yup... it sure does. plastic leaches into the food... and it can cause cancer (if it's heated). also environmentally glass is a better choice.

Ohhhh okay so what about glass containers with plastic covers? And i have a plastic water bottle with a filter is that bad too? ):

i use glass or stainless... never plastic. my glass container do have plastic lids but the plastic doesn't ever get heated and never touches the food... so i'm okay with it. i'd prefer a glass lid though.
i have a friend who's in singapore right now. she's bringing me a carry pack of stainless containers for lunches. they stack. very cool idea. common in that part of the country... i'm excited to have her back home and to get my lovely gift.
