HI Everyone
I tried to make nori wraps today and they turned out horrible. Alissa's book says to just dampen the seam on the nori sheet to make it stick and that totally does not work.... do I have to actually soak the whole sheet or something??
Thanks!

Dampen the edge right before you finishing rolling. Not the seam after you finish rolling.
Hope that made sence.

Hey Dave
No that wont work. Maybe my nori sheets are somehow different from everyone elses! Mine are pretty tough, super dry and definitely not going to stick together with just dampening.

Hmmm...maybe dampen isn't the right word :) haha
What I do is wet my finger (stick it in a bowl of water) and wet the edge, right before I roll it up.
Donno..maybe it is your nori's...

Go to youtube and search Russell James...he has some great vids on Sushi Rolling. He has 3 parts showing how. It may help you.
I would post a link, but I don't think I'm supposed to post links. :)

I would have strongly agreed with you last week. ;) I couldn't stand the taste or smell or nori. This week, I am a convert. I got this recipe at a raw food demo: 1 cup soaked walnuts blended in the food processor with 3 large medjool dates and 1 Tablespoon yellow miso OR chick pea miso. Using fingers, spread this pate about 1/4" thick onto half the nori sheet. Across the middle of the pate, line up julienne strips of carrots, bell pepper and zuchinni. Roll it up. Slice in 1" pieces. Just before eating, pour on a spoonful of Coconut Aminos. Nothing fishy about it. All sweet, delicious, and super nutritious.
As for sealing it... The moisture from the filling seeped through and made the nori stick to itself. A couple pieces came loose after being sliced. The touch of a fingertip dipped in water fastened it back together. I used very thin raw nori sheets from Ultimate superfoods. Probably similiar to the brand Alissa sells in her store.

Sounds delicious. I've not done nori rolls yet - and this sounds good. However, I'm allergic to coconut ... do you have a suggestion for a substitute for the coconut aminos?

Nice recipe. Yah, my nori sheets aren't thin, for sure. I guess I can make wraps. But I might have to try and soak these puppies first

Coconut Aminos tastes like a slightly sweet soy sauce. You could try it with Nama Shoyu or tamari, perhaps diluted with a bit of water and honey if too strong.

Thanks rawknitster!!! I see coconut aminos in lots of recipes and didn't know what it tasted like. Now I have a 'work around' for it.

i just made this recipe minus the dates ... i like my suhsi salty . i added spinach marinated mushrooms with curry spice just a pinch , carrot peelings and rolled that up with water to seal the seam . i let my sushi sit for about five minutes each before cutting them . it works really well , so much less tearing . i made a tamari curry dip to dip them in . it is fabulous !!!! i love this recipe .

Instead of slicing avo I spread it over the whole roll and then lay my veggies on. This always makes it stick!:eat
