I belong to a homesteading website. Some of the people do have a fridge. They use only non-perishables in the summer. In the winter, they store outside in coolers. Thought I'd try this. Gratefully, my counter & fridge is full of produce, but it goes bad sometimes. I decided since it's so cold here now, I'm keeping it in a cooler outside to see how it goes.

I love storing food in our garage when it's cold enough. Right now I have 2 big cases of young Thai coconuts, oranges, grapefruit and apples sittin' on the counter out there - love it! *Ü*

I've had to because of overflow with limited success. Sometimes produce unexpectedly froze and ruined. But for the record I've done raw foods before with no fridge, it is certainly possible.

I use the garage floor in cooler weather to store some things, but this time of year things freeze out there .... so I actually have a fridge outside and one inside. wow - I am trying to figure out how I'd manage without them ...

Interesting to think about ...

okay, so I have a question...I never have enough room in my fridge, and sometimes my produce does go bad, so could I set a cooler outside with my produce in it? I live in PA, so it does get cold. I mean tonight the low will be 20 and tomorrow's hight will be 36, so I can put my apples, oranges, cocounuts, grapefruit and greens out there, and grapes?

Tryingtogoraw .... I don't see why it wouldn't work --- give it a try and just check on the stuff every day. After all, if it is going to go bad staying on the counter indoors ... you've nothing to lose sticking it in a cooler outside and see what happens. :)

Please post how it goes ...

Glad we can read what others mean....I meant they do not have a fridge.
Try putting a few things at a time and. See how it goes. I think the ones that freeze would be good for smoothies.
