Hi everyone,
I've been out of the loop of raw for a while, though I've been keeping to vegan food for the last few years. I'm staying right now with my parents in Israel and my mom is really into raw food (though she doesn't follow it all the time). She and my dad have been to this retreat several times:
http://www.hitchadshut.co.il/Ann-Wigmore-met/
It's a 7 day retreat where you eat according to the beliefs of Ann Wigmore (i.e., lots of juicing and wheat grass :D). The schedule includes things like lectures on hydrocolonics, raw food theory and preparation, food demos, exercise, etc. My mom loves it and my dad, though a die-hard carnivore, admits that he always feels much better after they've gone.
I have 2 weeks of vacation from my online work starting on Monday and I hinted to my dad that I wanted to get away and really relax and not think about work. He was looking into a trip to Europe (since it's so close to Israel) but the weather is very cold and the prices are high. So my mom got on the idea to go to this place for a 7 day retreat (the three of us).
The retreat begins on Sunday. I'm still sort of iffy about it. On the one hand, it's a great opportunity to possibly get into raw again. On the other, I've sort of come to believe that going raw for someone like me, who has so many food obsessions and emotional eating issues, isn't really feasible. I'm totally open to integrating more raw into my diet, but I've come to believe that going low fat vegan is more doable for me (along the lines of PCRM, McDougall, and Eat To Live).
Any thoughts as to what you think about this? Has anyone ever gone to a retreat like this elsewhere or explored the theories on being raw according to Ann Wigmore?
I realize that this is a forum that promotes 100% raw food, so I'm sorry if it's not appropriate to post this here. Just like to get some thoughts on this from people who are currently raw.
