View Full Version : Can detox cause a fever?

Seems like every other night I run a temp between 99.1 and 100. I had a cold last week, and now a lot of mucus in my threat, always clearning throat, sick feeling tummy, little intestinal jitters. Joint pain specially in knees, muscle aches, fever, lack of appetite. Since transitioning to raw I haven't had much of an appetite at all. I have lost 12 lbs. In 4 weeks. Anyway, a fever with detox? maybe flu like symptoms? If I had to go on common sense alone I'd say its normal to have a fever during detox and maybe detox is setting free some old germs (???). I don't know. I haven't been able to find an answer.

Anyone here experience this?

in my understanding... a fever is not part of detox...

you can, of course, get sick during detox cause you immune system is taxed.

take care of yourself... rest and feed yourself raw live foods till you are healthy again. (((hugs)))

You're so faithful to this forum and I'm grateful you're here, Aleesha. Its nice to know this forum has a "mother" watching over it. Thanks for the reply. I sorta had a feeling fever is not part of the deal.

Back in the day I would have turned to aspirin to get rid of the flu-y aches. Needless to say, I don't dare.

na just wait for it to pass. *says mom* and allow the fever to eat up the bad guys. ;)

a hygenic doctor told me a few years ago that fever is not part of detox... and i believe her. :) whenever i've gotten a fever... it's been flu not detox IMO.

(((hugs))) get well soon! remember to drink water!

Maybe not a true fever but my body haso inexplicably heated up with a round of detox several times. Ive seen it be a cause of controversy in the raw world, no big deal either way.

Yes I have actually experienced that.

This is a cold/flu, or some baterial infection. I can feel it playing games in my throat, and stomach. I'm doing Vit C and garlic and lots of veg juices and water and trying to rest.

I've been researching my butt off lately trying to find answers. A few years ago I had part a root canal done. Long story short I let the thing go and now I have a problem, and have had one for years now. All the research I've done is pointing to problems in the mouth being huge problems in the system. I can probably even connect my severe candida problem to the dental in some way. It's like...to get better one has to get to the very root of the issues and heal those. I've had 2 rather bad colds a YEAR for the past 2 years. Prior to this, 1 cold every several years, sometimes longer. I can clearly see how everything I've done, both good choices, but particularly the bad ones, have culiminated in chronic colds, sinus, tummy problems. It's hard getting right in their in the core of things and healing...so very hard. It's scary for me a lot of the time, especially now that I don't run to junk food or nicotene for comfort.

Thanks for the hugs. Im very appeciative for the gesture. I wanna get well soon!

Hmm odd I had a fever during my detox, but it was only present at the end of the day when my other detox symptoms came out of hiding. Still have it on and off, but it's definitely not the flu because it's away most of the day.
Because you had a cold and the symptoms you describe, It is probably a flu though

I think its very possible to have a raised body temp during purges. I think this has been a fever? but not sure.

I am at my very wits end right now. About to head to the doctor tommorrow. I've had a sore throat and muscle aches and small fever at night for 2 WEEKS.

I'm almost thirty-nine and I haven't taken a prescription med since age try 25. I am not against m.d.'s by any means, despite all of the harm they have caused. I guess I just ride stuff out , trust me, it is not luck of the gene pool!

But I've actually often had fevers that I could tell my body was therapeutically burning stuff off. I just let it. I welcome it with rest. With my constitution, if I ate a S.A.D' diet, I'd truly be on psychiatric medication and have fibromyalgia. I secretly know what a miracle healthy eating is.

Ultimately, we all need to tap into our intuition to figure out what our individual body needs, and a doctor can definitely be part of that game plan.

I had a strange fever that I thought was detox. It came on in the afternoon one day--went up to 102. No other symptoms. Then by the next day it was gone.

Interesting, blizzard.

Well I think the flu is finally running its course. I wouldn't be surprised if detox can in some cases cause some elevation.

I like your sig. Trusting does not come easy does it? or does it?

You're just so right. Great advice. Thanks. It's great to see someone whose life is impacted in a positive way by raw, and raw determination. Inspiring, Stina!

hey cat :) i'm glad to hear that your fever has taken it's course
I thought I'd just pipe in and note that I am 26 days into the raw food diet, (has a mess up at 11 though, so more like 15 days) and I had a horrible fever/body aches/sore throat, dizziness and even a cough, and I think it was detox for sure because it struck most severely at night, also (when the body is resting/reparing more...)
I think it is very possible that fevers, resembling the flu, during raw detox occur

Hi EscapeArtist...yes the fever is GONE. So are the joint aches! I am sure it was the flu and I think the candida detox added to the pain.

BTW I am not totally raw and don't know how raw I can get. Candida and raw is complex. I don't feel I have the skills or knowledge to be 100% raw right away. I know RawKnitster is doing it though.

I have to say that I also believe that detox may bring out a certain type of elevated body temp.
