Why doesn't a big ole mother culture grow in your stomach/intestines and block everything up?

I think it's because the bacteria that feeds on fermenting wheat berries is pretty specific in what it consumes. Maybe, theoretically, it would be possible in the right environment for those bacteria to develop to the point of intestinal blockage... but I sure wouldn't want to see that. :o Ouch.

Do you drink Kombucha? After seeing a picture of the "mother culture" it put me off of the stuff.

Just bought one from HFS and it had the biggest mother in it I had ever seen. May not let it slip from the bottle. So glad to find Kombucha again.

I think you are thinking of Rejuvalac - that uses wheat berries for it's fermentation.....

Kombucha ferments with black tea & sugar ;)

As for the original poster......who knows! lol :p .....probably something to do with the environment inside us.....

This reminds me of the childhood fear of a watermelon seed germinating and proliferating in the stomach. The stomach is built to not let these sort of things happen. The stomach is actually known in some circles as a Second Brain. It is that intelligent.
