Is it alkaline or acidic?
Thanks :)
I'm not positive - but I think it's explained on Bragg's site. There's a lot of info there! *Ü*

From what I understand, many foods have an acidic pH themselves like apple cider vinegar or lemons, but they produce an alkalizing effect on the body. Hence, pH of the food item itself doesn't necessarily correlate to body pH. If this were true, eating oranges and apple cider vinegar would promote cancer, heart disease and inflammation. ;)
I'm sure others will elaborate more on the matter...

Lemons is acidic, but many detoxing websites online said that lemon water, or lime water akalizes the body. Go figure how an acid doesn't make the body more acidic.

Because your body has to utilize alkaline digestive substance to conter-interact the acidity. This is what i heard anyway.
Lemons is acidic......and the end product is alkaline forming. Apparently. The same goes for apple cider vinegar.
Those parts of the vinegar (or lemon juice) which don't get digested, if put into a beaker of water, would result in an alkaline solution.

I <3 ACV, too! I have 2-4 tbs/day with my salads and use it with Calcium Bentonite clay as a mask. Great results! :D

My understanding is that an alkalizing food is one that forms an alkaline ash after it is burned in the body for energy. Acid forming foods would leave an acidic ash that would have to be neutralized by our precious minerals-calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.

that's correct! to my understanding.
In regards to ACV and lemons and the like, I think the deal is, they in fact form that alkaline ash after mingling with our body.

Yes, it's the alkaline ash that is important to your body after digestion.
Vinegar is acidic.
Here's a nice looking chart for alkaline/acidic ash of foods:

Apple Cider Vinger is slight acidic.
