Welcome welcome welcome!!!

Welcome to the 30 day challenge.

If you haven't already... please take a moment to read the posting rules/guidelines (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/announcement.php?a=3) of this section. Thanks!

Welcome to the Monthly Raw Challenge!

We're excited about this new area of the forum that is specifically for those of you who are eager to commit to a month of eating 100% raw foods and seeing miraculous results!

WE (one of the moderators) will start a new challenge thread on the first of every month.

We want the focus of these monthly challenge threads to be on staying raw and accountability. Therefore, if you have eaten all raw and then slip up and have something cooked, we don’t want you to beat yourself up over it or dwell on it, but this is not space to discuss it. You are more than welcome to document it in your journal/blog or ask for help in the discussion area, but it is not necessary (and not allowed) to discuss your slip-up here in the challenge threads, just get right back on track and keep going!

In the event that you feel you are not quite ready to fully commit to the challenge and you find yourself having slip-ups often, then please join us again during the following month. Of course you are still more than welcome to participate on other parts of the forum, but we would really like to keep this section dedicated to those who are committed to doing 30 days 100% raw.

Peace, Blessings and Warmest Regards,

Cherie

Good Morning all!!! This December thread is really hopping!!

I really am excited about everyone's progress here!

Today I have to go to the grocery store. We are out of food.....I am looking forward to trying someting new this coming week. We are having 2 Christmas parties this weekend. One party tonight and one tomorrow night. I have to PLAN....taking me a great big salad and making some brownies to have when I get home is probably the safest thing and making sure I ENJOY THE PARTY AND FELLOWSHIP WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!!

I'm going back to bed. I just wanted to check in with ya'll this morning and wish everyone the very, VERY BEST DAY!!

I thought I was first up tville! 10.30am here. Having an uncook day today.

This may be a difficult day for some of us but in my experience it gets easier after the 3rd day. Seems to take 3 days to get over food and drink addictions so hopefully you'll be over your coffee withdrawal symptoms within 24 hours shooflygirl. I had very unpleasant detox symptoms yesterday but I feel much better this morning. (My SO will be pleased. He couldn't do a thing right yesterday!)

Before I started I wrote down all the things I hoped to gain from this. I wanted to be able to refer to it when the going got tough. The first is that I want to heal my body so my mantra for today is "I am healing my body." Anyone else got one?

Have a great day everyone.

MAISIELOU1: I am going to make that list right now. I have made a list in the past, but I have a new journal and I need to make a new list so that I can refer back to it when I feel like quitting!

I am looking for things to make that don't take alot of ingredients from the HFS! Money is so tight, with Christmas coming....it was tight before, now it's worse so I am trying to do my part in NOT overspending on things I really don't need. What I am thinking is this: in recipes that use DATES, I could get by with using raisins or a mixture of 1/2 raisins, 1/2 dates (dates are really expensive here) and probably use a mixture of sunflower seeds with walnuts or almonds to help with the cost of those recipes.....DOES ANYBODY ELSE DO ANY TRICKS TO HELP CUT COSTS WHEN $$$ IS AN ISSUE???? I would be interested in hearing them ALL!!!

I'm off to catch a quick nap before it's truly time to get up.....then I'm gonna make that list!! Thanks for sharing, Maisielou....I need to focus on what is relly important here, my HEALTH!!

Food Plan:
barleymax (already had some!)
apple/walnut/raisin mixture from the last few days
GS w/ spinach, banana, cherries
Dinner: (Christmas party #1) large, tasty salad with greens, purple onion, carrots, red pepper, celery, a handful of trail mix from yesterday, tomatoes, and a raw dressing!HOPEFULLY I am going to get some cocoa/cacao today so I can make some kind of yummy RAW treat so I don't feel deprived tonight....yes I know, SAD, but RAW is NOT about being deprived!!!

Peace...I will do my best to check in later....I REALLY LOVE READING WHAT EVERYONE WRITES!!!! IT IS SO INSPIRING:D

I am just now at the point of trying to budget with eating raw Wendi, so I can't speak to it. I'd love to read what others have to say. I don't know if anyone gets the daily motivational and informational messages from you know who, but here's a link to a raw vegan sub sandwich recipe:

Be back a little later to post more.

Good morning all and TGIF!

Best wishes to all of your on your 3rd day! You've made it this far and all you need is to get through this bump. You're treating your body with love and giving it what it needs. It will in return give you all the energy and love you need. Keep it up! *hugs*

So... We've been on a search for wheatgrass and will start growing it next week. We found some at Whole Foods last night and tried it for the 1st time. It was good, different but good. :D

Today's meal plan:
Meal 1: Green Juice : Intense greens this time... Came out really good, not bitter or hard to drink, just a tad bit less sweet than usual. My tummy really liked it though. Maybe it's the parsley or the wheat grass... Either way, this IS going to be my staple green drink. Done!
-Green Juice (LOTS of greens again: Kale, Spinach, celery, Brocolli, Collards, parsley, wheatgrass, 1 lemon, 1 orange, 1 apple 4 carrots.)

Meal 2 Salad (Kale, Spinach, Brocollete, Peppers, carrots - topped off with hemp seeds, chia seeds, sunflower sprouts & lentil sprouts + 1 Avocado) Olive oil and Apple cider vinegar dressing as usual.

Snack: 1/4 cup of Super Food Trail Mix

Meal 3: Green Juice Part II

Meal 4 Berry Smoothie (Frozen berries, Maca powder + 1 Banana) &

1 Homeade Cookie (Maybe I will post pics later?!) - I made these last week and they came out AMAZING! I Put nuts through the juicer (no food processor or blender at this time- gotta work with what ya' got! ;)) Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, coconut chips - then added cacao nibs, gogi berries, mulberries, golden berries, 1 apple, 1 banana & Agave) The consistency of the dough was perfect. They've been in the dehydrator since last night so hopefully they're ready by 6pm tonight.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday! Keep up the fantastic work and continue to love and nourish your temples the way you have for the past three days!

*hugs*

Everyone seems to be doing great.

Tville can't think of anything else right now, but if I think of things as we go along I will post them. I do the same with replacing nuts.

I'm off work today to go Chrristmas shopping and lunch with a friend. I find eating out one of the more difficult things at this point.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning rawbies. I feel tired and out of sorts today - haven't been sleeping well at all since I came back to raw, and I'm not sure why. *sigh*

Not sure what's on my menu for today. I need to take plenty of food with me though, because it looks to be another long day. I'll be so glad when finals are over... I think I'm going to try to make enchiladas this weekend, if I can find enough time to do so.

Anyway, here's the corn chowder recipe for whoever was wanting it.

Corn Chowder

2 cups frozen corn kernels
1 heaping Tablespoon minced garlic
1/4 sweet onion (not red/purple)
1/2 cup cashews
2 Tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 carrot, peeled
3-4 mini red/orange bell peppers (or 1 small red pepper, or 1/2 large)
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 Tablespoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
1 1/4 cups water (add a little more if needed to blend; when warming/serving, add more if it's too thick)

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add 2 cups frozen corn kernels and 1 Tablespoon parsley, warm gently and enjoy.

I like to top it with diced avocado and tomato.

AllergyGirl: What are you having for dinner? I am very caffeine sensitive and will stay up even if I have a little cacao in the afternoon. Are you taking in anything of that sort in the afternoon? I also find that Yogi tea's "bedtime" also helps me relax and fall asleep. Have you tried anything else?

*OHHHH and when I workout at night, I usually stay up pretty late. That is why I do mornings instead. Waking up early, getting a head start at 430ish am I'm usually in bed by 9:30ish or so)

Hang in there and keep nourishing your temple!

*hugs*

:)Happy Friday everyone!!:)

Started my day w/ a GS.....orange juice, greens, blueberries & banana

I've been prowling around wanting something to eat but didn't want fruit right now....thinking of something sweet.....I don't really have much prepared right now and the last three bunches of avocados I bought have been spoiled by the time they are ripe enough to use...grrrrrrrrrrr...

Just had a salad instead, small bag of spring mix, 1/2 grannie smith apples, handful of walnuts & snowdrops ranch dressing......really hit the spot.
I need to spend some time this weekend making some food for myself so I am prepared.

Granola
macaroons
salad dressing
crackers and/or bread
sour cream
rejuvelac- so I can make the Grezzo cheese
raw chocolate or vanilla ice cream
chocolate sauce or caramel lucuma sauce

OMGoodness am I still hungry??? Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Allergy Girl...the chowder sounds good...have all the ingredients too!:)

Maisielou~
I'm up at 5:30 every morning! I thought I posted this morning but must have gotten distracted....probably by the slew of cats I have. Making a list is a great idea...helps you remember when things get a little harder.

Wendi~
I shop at a natural food store for many things but to save money do buy what I can at Costco....namely-

1 lb. boxes of both baby spinach & spring mix...less than $4 each
they have big bags of reg. spinach for very cheap.
bananas 33Cents a lb.
the best avocados, 5 huge ones for $5.99 or so (always very good quality)
big papayas- $2.69 each...these are great to freeze for smoothies
Portabello mushrooms
organic carrots & celery
frozen organic blueberries 3 lbs. about $9...a big bag, used for GS every day...lasts me about 2 weeks
They also sell a huge bag, I think 4 lbs. of frozen mixed fruit....papaya, pineapple, mango and strawberries...I use them for smoothies.

Some don't use frozen fruit but I do for convenience...it works for me. I use tons of fresh fruit but these too. Hope that helps some.
Hope everyone has a great day...will bbl to post the rest of the day~

Last night I had a big salad for dinner. The night before I had zucchetti and salad, and I think the night before that was just zucchetti. I don't do caffeine at all, and I do occasionally drink a "bedtime" herbal tea, but haven't lately. I guess I should try that. I suspect that part (most?) of the problem is the fact that final exams are next week, and I have a to-do list about 7 feet long. My brain just won't settle down, or it does and I sleep for a little while, but then wake up after a couple of hours and can't get back to sleep. I'll try the tea tonight and see if that helps.

AllergyGirl: Ah! Yes, that stress is definitely adding to it. KNOW that you'll do wonderfully and will make it through. There's no reason you wouldn't! ;) I'll be sending some positive restful sleep vibes your way! *Many hugs!*

I forgot to add that I had DANDELION GREENS in my juice for today... Goodness, my tummy talked to me and told me it really liked this combo.

Hey Rawbies! Delise you go on with your bad self with those dandelion greens. Whoa...I can only do a little bit of them. :) TGIF! I feel pretty good today. I cannot wait to go to the market! I also cannot wait to go to the market and freely get what I'd like, which will be next week. Today thus far all I've had:

green smoothie w/kale, pineapples, bananas, water and hemp seeds (creamy like milk, yum)...Wendi, I wish I liked savory green drinks, but I veer toward sweet juices and smoothies. That was great advice about how to use watercress.

raw trail mix (has almonds, sprouted quinoa and sunflower seeds)w/some cashews

I'd like to make my own raw trail mix. I got this one from Pimp Foods...oh excuse me, I mean Whole Foods...and it's quite tasty. Seems easy enough to make at home. I may wait until I get my new dehydrator though. Anyway, check back later. Have a more than great Friday all! :)

Smoothie - beetroot, apple, carrot, banana, sprouts, ginger. (I know. Weird. Finishing off stuff. Tasted OK.)

2 slices banana bread, tomato, avocado, oranges, glass lemonade (agave).

Only had about 820 calories today but I'm not hungry. One of the criticisms of the raw diet is the possible lack of these (although the research shows that people who eat less cals live longer). Anyway, I need to double those.

Goodnight everyone. Hope you all had a good day. Sleep well!

I was really hungry today....was kind of looking around half the day for something to eat....I stayed 100% raw!!!! I am so happy with myself and am feeling good...very tired but emotionally great. I made the Orange Hemp Dressing from Alissa's new book and it is really good. I halved the recipe...loved the smell of the fresh orange zest..having that for dinner on a salad w/ clementines and maybe a handful of pecans added. Two salads and a gs today...pretty good for me...and a young coconut w/the water.
Going to the Natural food store tomorrow to stock up. DH brought me home a tub of baby spinach and 5 beautiful avocados today.what a sweetie pie!!!
Making his dinner but so jazzed again on raw it is not a problem...this weekend am gonna spend some time in the kitchen with the new un-cookbook so I am really prepared for next week!

PS...rode my recumbent bike 5 minutes......a pretty good start for me!

Bleh. I've felt pretty off today, not sure what my problem is. I got home and was absolutely starving, so had a big salad, and now I feel weird. Kind of a cross between heartburn and acid reflux maybe? I don't know, as I've never had trouble with either one. Went to the store, and had to physically restrain myself not to buy a bunch of junk food, and then driving home past all of the restaurants... ugh. :\

I didn't give in, but I still want to. :(

AllergyGirl: Hang in there breath deep, meditate do some yoga, dip some apple slice in a lil agave nectar or molasses mixed with a pich of sea salt and cashew crumbs and pretend you are at the state fair << um yeh sorry about the apetizing segway that's my desert tonight.

KUDOS to everyone else for being so TENACIOUS. Loving yourself to health with such variety and deliciousness:D:D

Todays intake so far though not necessarily in this order:

Hey good people! life, thank you soooo much for the hugs and kisses! Right back at ya. :) Suzanne, that's a great suggestion from life...take it slow and easy. Maybe try not to entertain the thoughts and that may help? I know if I throw the thoughts out of my head immediately it really helps me. I hope you feel better though heart wise. Maybe there was something else that is weighing on you that is bringing this up...just food for thought.

Today, maaaaaan, I can't believe I hardly ate anything...but I did eat!

1 qt green smoothie
Lara bar
cashews
raw trail mix
loads of herbal tea w/agave nectar

I had an avocado and kale salad for lunch and never even ate it, go figure. Not sure, maybe I needed the dense snacks. Tired, going to bed! :)

Happy Friday!
Wow. I'm feeling so much better today!! Back to my normal self but with no voice!
So, yesterday I didn't work (b/c I was sick) and I had all kinds of time to be here; reading, processing, and replying. Did not have that kind of time today.
You all sound like you're doing well and eating well! Keep going!

A few mantras;
In the scheme of the universe, (this moment, this meal, 1 day, 7 days) 30 days (60, 120, one year) is not long at all, stay raw.
Be gentle. (this one I breath with A LOT throughout the day)

About saving money, it may not be practical, but I do not think about it, especially with food. I find that if I worry about it, then it becomes an issue. I balance giving and receiving, practice abundance meditation, and pick up every penny I find.

Late last night I made walnut pate from Everyday Raw Food for 1 or 2 People & put a batch of red pepper & flax crackers in the D. The 'dough' for the crackers tasted horrible, maybe it was my funky throat, or just the 'dough'. Today they tasted great!

1 qt lemon water
B- 1/2 watermelon
sweet thai delight tea w/ a bit of almond mylk
L- GS- 4 bananas, 4C spinach, coco water, spiralina, cacao, maca, camu camu berry. I always share 6-8 oz with my 3 year old. (I'm a creature of habit, and have this smoothie almost everyday, you'll see! Think I should rotate the greens more, but?)
16oz water
D- small salad- red leaf lettuce, little green pepper, yummy raw dressing. (so funny, the menu says large salad, to me it's little:) when I got home I had about 2 Tbls walnut pate & crackers.
s- apple, banana, & almond butter
more water

Tomorrow my family is celebrating my Dad's 60th bday! Going out to lunch, German food. Not too sure there will be anything for me. My plan is to pack it in and eat with pride.

Have an awesome weekend!!
Light & Love...
