Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!
There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.
And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!
Here's my commitment:
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
Today I'm on Day 170 and happy to continue fasting.
This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

okay so as you all know... i've been really sick in the last week. i believe it was a combo of a healing crisis and the flu. it hit me HARD. but i've recovered and i'm still fasting and ready, willing and able to continue on with this fast.
i'll be fasting through christmas/yule which will be a challenge but heck, i've already made it through thanksgiving so i should be able to do this as well. it'll definitely be more challenging since there's so many events to attend (all with food of course ;) ) but hey, it's all about where your mind is.
i plan to bring lots of yummy juice to these events!
so... who's fasting? wanna share your commitments for your fast? any specific goals you have that you are hoping to achieve?
i've been reading through my private blog - chronicling my experience and i am amazed at how different i am now from when i began this fast almost 6 months ago.
i no longer crave junk food of any kind. don't even think about it anymore (and i did for much of this fast). i have released many out-moded habits and relationships from my life. i've deepened my spiritual self greatly. and most importantly... the relationship i have with myself has changed. i've found ME again. i'm so pleased. :)
i wonder what treasures await me as i continue this journey?
oh and one more thing... i've learned that water fasting kicks my butt to the curb. every single time i do water only... i am not well. hopefully this will change cause i would love to do a forty day water fast at some point in my life... but at this time... a few days is all i can manage. but hey... things change! i look forward to this changing!

had a great day. so nice to feel healthy again!
i ran into a friend and had a lovely visit... and then off to the market. i got a HUGE box of free stuff again. so many red, orange and yellow peppers... so i had a gorgeous pepper soup tonight. it was so sweet and yummy.
i'm in fasting heaven!!!
i ordered 3 flats of vine ripened tomatoes and 2 cases of young coconuts for tomorrow. i'm hoping to get some more pineapples as well as i used the last one this morning. mmmmm juice!!!

I'll be with you for a couple of days, starting tomorrow. Maybe even a week..... we'll see. Hanukkah starts on the 1st, but I may wait until the end to make some fun stuff for the family.
I need/want to fast to break bad eating habits... to refocus after the holidays and a family visit... to grow/connect with God more... to just "be"
I love fasting and how I feel when I fast.
I have some wonder pineapples waiting for me and some yound coconuts..
So here I come precious.... I needs it... I wants it... I must haves it....

Hi
Aleesha- I am so happy you are feeling better.:)
Well it is 50 days and tomorrow I will be starting on coconut water so I will still be fasting for most of December. I plan to do coconut water for as many days as I feel the need then into other juices.
This fast has been amazing and so many worries go away when I am water fasting.
I just wish I had recorded my fast. I wish every woman would realize how much stronger they really are. The world would be a different place if we all realized what we could accomplish.

I so hear you on that one Rawmom. Congrats on 50 days on water... I sure wish you had chronicled your fast so I could learn from it. Perhaps next time? If you choose to do this again in the near future.
Coconut water is such a beautiful way to break your fast. I'm in awe of you *head bowed in deepest respect*... do share you water fast breaking with us, so we can all learn from your example. (((hugs)))
I've been reading my private blog... from the beginning of this fast and I'm amazed at how much I've changed, grown and gotten rid of old out-moded behaviours and aspects of my life. My life is so much more 'in order' now. The kitchen is always clean, my body feels so much cleaner as well. I feel stronger than I ever have in my life. My spirituality is deeper... much deeper. My connection to God/Goddess/All-That-Is is so much more open.
I wish you all the best... all the best and more.
Lady Aredhel... yessss second breakfast sounds lovely indeed. Very lovely...

rawmom can you gift us some insight if you have the desire?
did you continue to have any bms during your fast? were they assisted or unassisted?
how much water did you drink per day approx.?
did you have a normal amount of energy (as you do when you are not fasting)? *it seemed that way from your posts*
how much and how well did you sleep at night?
how much weight did you release in total?
what was the greatest gift you received from this fast?
did you meet or exceed your original intentions for this fast?
why 50 days? i know you wanted to break it on young coconut water and so you chose to do another 10 days... but why did you choose that amount of time?
how is your body responding to the coconut water? are you finding it wanting more more more more or is it being calm about getting something other than water? (i would think it would be ravenous)
hope you don't mind... but i really want to learn from you.

woke up with a sore throat... i'm sure it'll be gone soon enough. gotta get to work on the magazine... i'm extremely behind.

I am soooooooo ready. December 1 is Day 1. Recently, I've gotten myself into a very bad place. Aleesha, as of today, I am throwing out my old notions and following your lead.
I am fasting to be free of food cravings.
I am fasting to find ultimate health.
I am fasting to release the old me.
I am fasting to embrace the new me.
Aleesha Sattva
11-30-2010, 11:15 PM
Ah it's a great way to enter a fast... releasing releasing releasing...
Remember to drink lots of water!!! Very important especially at the beginning of a fast.
RawKnitster
11-30-2010, 11:38 PM
I'm thinking my minimum daily requirement should be two quarts of juice, two quarts of water, plus another quart of herbal tea. Do you think that is a good place to start?
Aleesha Sattva
12-01-2010, 10:59 AM
i don't think there should be a minimum on tea... since that's like an 'extra'. i like to see people begin their fasts with 3-4 litres (quarts) of juice and then the 2 litres of water... then as your fast progresses you can lessen the amount of juice depending on your body's needs.
i had the most bizarre dreams last night! what a trip that was. today is a big day here... my son goes for his driving test. he should pass, he's a great driver and then FREEDOM not only for him but for us. no more mama and papa taxi for him!!!

Man I am so with you Francis(RawKnitster). Um since I lost power9(3 times in 1.5 weeks) and our weather went dark and dreary I had a hard time and stopped the 24/7 juicing. I am in again also. Aleesha I love your inspiration too. You are a gooder when it comes to knowing Fasting.~

Fasting today.
Recently discovered Im allergic to carrots. Anyone out there ever juice a parsnip? Allergic to tomatoes too.
Tonight for dinner I want red pepper, celery, cucumber, spinach, lemon. Do you think parsnip would be a good addition?
Be well...

Dianne K.

Parsnips are ok in juice, but not too much.I have done a small parsnip in my vegi juices and all is good.
Aleesha Sattva
12-01-2010, 06:37 PM
i don't like parsnips so never tried them. i would think they would juice just like a carrot. the taste may be a bit strong though...
had an okay tom juice tonight. for some reason my 'gift' for making yummy tom juice left before i got sick. i want my yummy combo back.

12-01-2010, 08:35 PM

so you are fasting through christmas/yule? that's great. we can keep each other company!
Dianne K.
12-01-2010, 11:25 PM
Aleesha,
I came in late on what you are sick from . Is it sickness or detox?
That's a shame sickness.I have no grandaughter around as from 2009-2010 June to June the son and Grandaughter was 4 days aweek while son and ex daughter-in law were going through a divorce .I was with a cold 2 times in the 1 year.Love my grandaughter( 4 on the 14th of this December) and I don't miss her little sniffles :-)
Dianne K.
12-01-2010, 11:27 PM
Yes ,let's keep each other company for I can use the intuition of others when juicing! Take it easy. :)Are you using lots of ginger for your sickness?
I'd like to join the thread.. I'm finishing up day 3 of the Master Cleanse. I've heard the first 3 days are the "hardest", so the rest should be good to go!
I'm doing really well. I've never fasted from food before, so this is a first for me. I told my husband that my body is liking this. Plus, I'm enjoying the lemonade, I think it's really good.
Now it's showing me though that a juice fast is completely do-able. I always wondered about that. *Ü*

I am still fasting. I feel cold. I am off to drink some unsweetened tea with added cayenne pepper in order to keep me warm, because I have to run out and do errands in 33 degree weather.
I have no detox symptoms yet, unless me feeling cold is a symptom.

i'm not feeling well at all today. i think it's connected to my upcoming period as i'm so bloated as well. have only had some 'love tea' (yogi fasting tea) and that's it so far. it's 2:30 so i'll make juice soon...
i only vomited that one night bike... i couldn't have gone through what you did for so long (((hugs)))

Hello everyone
Aleesha sorry it took me so long to answer your questions been crazy busy.
I continued to have bm till about day 30 not everyday but at least once a week. They were unassisted.
I am not sure how much water per day but I always had a mug off water which is about 4 cups of water. I always had that filled and would just drink it all day.
I had lots of energy on the water fast and I had more energy then I have when I am eating. I do not know why this happens but I am lucky it does. There were a few days I was tired and when I got my migraine I felt off for a week.
Sleep was about the same as when I am not fasting I am not a heavy sleeper and I have always had issues with sleep. It all started in childhood and I just live with it.My dreams are way more crazy and vivid when water fasting.
I lost about 45 pounds on the fast.
The greatest gift I recieved from this water fast was finding my true self after all these years. Letting go of past pain.
This fast exceeded my expectations I went longer than I have ever on a water fast and this fast just flowed and the real me came out. I am less afraid.
I went to 50 days because I needed to get young coconuts and I felt 50 was a good number.
I am not more hungry now with the coconut water but I have felt a drop in energy just a little.
i might do another day or two of coconut water then add watermelon juice.
I plan to juice fast till the 20th of this month.
I would have gone longer on water if I did not have family obligations for the holiday. I would have like to see the rest of my weight gone and to see how much more open my mind and body could of gotten.
Aleesha thanks for all the kind words.
Aleesha Sattva
12-04-2010, 10:54 AM
thanks so much for sharing with us... and with me specifically. (((hugs)))
i love the way you are breaking this fast. so gentle and slow. that's what concerns me most about people water fasting. they figure they are done and go and eat right away. the way you are doing it is how i do it... on to juice... then solids later - but you way is even better... coconut water, then juice, then solids.
(((hugs))) more hugs for finding your true self. i know exactly what you mean... i've done that on this fast as well.
today is day 175. i'm starting to look at day 222 and wonder if i'll go that long. i may just fast till after the holidays and stop. of course, fasting after the holidays is my norm so who knows... perhaps i'll get a huge 'shove' from my Self to continue. it's not that i want to eat... i'm not sure what it is. it's not hunger though. i know that.
perhaps it's just changing it up??? i may do water again...
as you can tell, i have no firm plans at all. just going with the flow LOL

Hi all, I'm on day 2 and feeling fabulous. Full of energy. I feel liberated, and I will be on water until the 17th. I think, maybe, after my extended fast this spring, my body now wants to just do a couple weeks at a time.
Aleesha, I'm wondering why you're doing water when you were so successful on juice?
Aleesha Sattva
12-04-2010, 06:10 PM
i'm not doing water right now... but i like to change things up here and there AND... i don't release any weight on juice (except during the first few weeks of my fast)... so if i want to reduce... water does that for me.
;) but mostly... it's simply because it's a challenge for me. juice fasting isn't a challenge for me anymore so it's nice to have that challenge once in awhile.
but water... kicks the crap outta me. so i can't do it very long or very often. i'm hoping that with doing it over and over again... i'll be able to do it for longer periods of time.
Aleesha Sattva
12-04-2010, 08:08 PM
here i am saying that juice fasting isn't challenging for me and i'm so wanting to end this fast. LOL it's not the fasting that is challenging... it's that i think i'm done with fasting in this moment. i've made a deal with myself... to continue fasting until 2011 - then if I want to, I can end my fast. I won't make my 222 day goal (which is later in January) but I'm totally fine with that. I'm not fasting for the goal... I'm fasting for the experience.
And I think... that I feel very full with this experience right now. But who knows... that could change. Anyone who knows me... knows that LOL I have GREAT moments and not so great moments... but each have value and merit... and motivates me in different ways.
So... we'll see where this takes me.
;) Sure wish I was a better water faster... I'd do that for the month. *calling in bike and rawmom energy*

BTW, my mom bought an infrared sauna pass!

I'm back to fast again. :) It's good to be back! I'm hoping for 5 days, but I'm going to go by how I feel with the blood sugar issues. I think I've got things tweaked to where it might just be easier this time, so this is my test. I did hear back from my gynecologist. She had her nurse call and give me the information, but it's almost a 3 hour drive from here, so still too far for me to drive just to be monitored on the fasting. I will keep looking for a nat doc in this area.
In the meantime, I've continued to read and research everything I can find. We just got back from a mini vacation in Gatlinburg. It was cold but beautiful! We got to see their Christmas parade. People drive from all over to go to it. I couldn't believe how packed it was! We also met with a friend I worked with when my late DH and I lived in MI. It's been 13 years since we've seen each other. She lives not far from where we were so it was great to see her!
Anyway, up until Thursday, I had been doing the Alternate Day Fasting but not going more than 20-24 hours of fasting at a time. It's been great for helping to maintain my weight. Now I'm ready to go longer again. I will probably try it once a month if this works well. :D

that is good news menelwen... very good news. i hope your friend finds great healing with juicing.
nice to have you back again. i missed reading your words!
i'm struggling... still not sure what i want to do. i know i know... i should have this all figured out by now... but it's not that simple. a part of me wants to fast (a big part) and another lazy part wants to end it. i'm hoping to quiet the lazy part!
just woke up, made myself some love tea and i'm ready to embrace this day!!!

Lady Awen- It was a bit strange in Gatlinburg. We had my laptop, but it would only connect to their internet for a little bit the first night we were there... Then it kept trying to connect to another hotel across from us. We finally gave up and decided it was vacation and we needed a vacation from the computer. So, it was actually nice to be away from it. It is amazing how addicting it can be, though, so it felt a little awkward not being able to get online... I considered it "fasting from the internet" and I almost think it was harder than juice fasting!
I can only imagine how hard a decision it is for you to know when to break your fast. After being on such a long fast, I know there is a part of you that doesn't want to stop.
We have been using earthing mats. I had gotten one for each of us and was going to give DH his for Christmas but after just a few days of sneaking to use mine, I was so excited I gave it to him early! At first, I noticed some achiness after using it, but now it is helping both of us quite a bit. I took mine on vacation with us and DH left his home. It has been helping both of us sleep better and by the 2nd night without his, DH laid awake for several hours. When I woke up during the night and he said he'd been awake for over 4 hours, I asked if he wanted my mat. He said he did so I gave it to him and in just a few minutes, he was sound asleep! I slept another 3 hours and then went to take a walk and he was still sound asleep when I got back to the room! We're having a good time experimenting with the earthing concept. I firmly believe there is something to it.
Aleesha Sattva
12-05-2010, 09:44 AM
never heard of those mats... off to do an internet search!
i took a break (as you know) from the net when i was recovering from the flu last week. it was so nice to not grab my laptop every few minutes! i sure had a lot of time extra. of course, being ill and sitting on the couch all day made me have a lot of time regardless. it was nice to have a break though. i often think... wow before the internet... my house was so much cleaner LOL
it's a challenge to know when enough is enough and when it's not enough. there's no meter i can plug into that says, "okay now you should stop". i go to the dr to discuss my blood results this week. i'm guessing i recovered nicely from the water fasting - protein levels dropping issue... but he did a bunch of other tests. (checking my heart health, liver health, cholesterol etc) so it'll be interesting to get those results back.
i guess really... that's the only meter i have - those tests. they'll say whether or not to stop but they don't really say "continue"... that answer has to come from within me. and i seem to be short on answers at this time.
missyc
12-05-2010, 01:21 PM
Whatever you decide as far as continuing to fast or breaking your fast, you are still a success! You've actually gone way past successful, I think!
It's rather cold out here today! Brrrrrrr....
I am loving all the cranberries this time of the year! I am buying them and freezing some for later and using some now. They had the organics 1/2 price today so I bought 6 pkgs of them! I already have several pkgs in the freezer. I like to add some to my juice.
We got 2 of our Christmas trees out. We have 1 big one and 2 small ones that we put up. I will probably only do the 2 this year. I'm really not in the mood to decorate at all, but figured maybe it will put me in more of the Christmas mood if I make myself do it... I've learned that sometimes it's best to just "go thru the motions" and just hit the autopilot button and it makes it a little easier to get thru the holidays.
Aleesha Sattva
12-05-2010, 01:26 PM
i have a bunch in my freezer as well. i went on a huge cranberry binge in the spring and drank my weight in the juice LOL haven't had much since though... i should pull some out for myself again!
ya, i'm not sure what i'll do. if it wasn't coming up to christmas, i'd break it - but with all the events we need to attend... self control will be a challenge! and one i'm not sure i want right now. it's so easy to just be fasting... so easy.
oh well... i'm sure i'll figure it out one way or another LOL
i'm pleased that i don't feel like a failure at all. i feel very empowered and Light. whatever i decide... i know it'll be the right decision for me. and if it isn't (and i break my fast)... i can always start up again!!
cause really... the 'numbers' of days doesn't matter much. who cares if i fast 21 days or 176 days... (well my body benefits tremendously but... you get my point). either way... i fast most of the year so little breaks here and there are no big deal. ;)
it does feel so good to be back to myself again. after my miscarriage and all the other losses in my life... i was so lost. i don't feel lost anymore (((hugs)))

okay... decision has been made. a friend did a reading for me and this is the card she pulled. (i have to share cause it's so mind-blowingly clear!)
Question: Please give Aleesha guidance/insight about her fast.....
The card came up right away... Choose Wisely:
This card comes forth when you have a vision or goal that you want to achieve, but too many choices, scattered energies, and unrealistic expectations prevent you from attaining what you desire.
Opportunities are bountiful, but there's a decision to be made at this time. This card reminds you that the options now around you may appear to have all the influence and power - but in reality, you're in control and responsible for all the choices you make.
Take the time to think, analyze, and carefully look at the different possibilities that are in front of you. Don't be hasty just because you feel pressured; and don't be influenced by people who have no idea, expertise, or education in the area of your choices. A focused, wise decision far outweighs one made emotionally or in desperation.
Wow... I was totally making this decision from a place of being emotional and desperate. Totally... so... I've put on my big girl panties... pulled them up nice and snug and I'm ready, willing and able to get back in the game 100%. No more wishy washy for this mama... it's time to find my centre and sit in it!
*still amazed by the clarity of this reading*

WOW I would have to say that was point on! When I feel wishy washy about things I find that I surround myself with positive thoughts and "try" not to let my mind wander down the wishy washy path. It keeps me grounded and focused. I hope that made sense?? lol
Aleesha you are amazing with all that you have accomplished and I am so glad that your mental thoughts have changed that if you ended your fast today you would NEVER be a failure.
I am going to fast Jan 3-14th. My church is doing an all church fast. Some will be doing the Daniel fast while others will be doing a water, juice fast. I am going to do a juice fast. I will break my fast at day 10 because the church will have a meal for breaking the fast. After reading here I know it's not the best way to break the fast and I want to reap the health benefits of this fast.
So I am READY!!!

The Daniel Fast is more of a "diet", but I guess it's called "fast" because it's fasting from certain foods. It's like going on a healthy diet and avoiding the bad foods. Good for people who live in a fast food world and eat a lot of not so healthy things because they give up or "fast" from the unhealthy foods.
I would say you have your answer, Lady Awen! I saw something on our vacation that had a saying like "I'm gonna pull up my big girl panties and deal with it!" I thought immediately of you! lol
I have not felt like decorating for Christmas this year. I really had planned on just not bothering this year. DH said he wanted to, though, so we got 2 of our trees out today. The big one and 1 small one. I didn't decorate them very much so they are rather plain, but they will do. I didn't get out all my other Christmas stuff and I didn't decorate the porch or put any lights out. Just didn't feel like it. It will just have to do for this year. I'm just not up to any more. But, hopefully, this will get me more in the mood.

Missyc I am so sorry that you are so sad during these holidays.... it will get better. It will not be the same but your new normal.
Aleesha Missyc is correct about the Daniel fast, its a biblical based partial fast. It helps the body, soul and the spirit. It helps us get closer to God.
Night everyone.

Something has changed in my body and when I try to fast now, I end up crashing. I'm pretty sure it's not detox related at all. Whatever it is, I don't think it's a good thing and I think I just need to stop trying for now until I can get some help to find out what is going on. I feel very overwhelmed right now. :(

i'm awake. i'm here... i'm fasting LOL feeling a little overwhelmed this morning. it's my son's 17th birth day today... and i sure wish i had more money to spoil him... and while i think about that... i realize that christmas/yule is a mere weeks away and i have no money for that either.

how long have you been fasting for? how long you going? and... welcome!
I've never fasted before and went into this without many expectations, I was hoping to shed a few pounds though. I'm on Day 8 (or 10) of the Master Cleanse.
For those that have done it before, were you able to lose weight? The past 2 days I've actually gained, my total loss is 1#. This was more to me than simply losing weight and I'm finding it very interesting how I'm feeling (lighter), how I'm sleeping (better) - I'm glad to be doing this right now.
I'll see how it goes on Thursday when I break this cleanse, but I'm thinking of just continuing on with fruit & veggies juices and see where that takes me. *Ü*

deb, when i fast (i don't do the m/c) i usually release about 20 pounds in the first 10 days to two weeks. i release about 3-6 pounds in the first two days. then i slow and seldom release much at all (if anything) for months...
but my weight does go up... when i'm fasting. i think it's how hydrated my body is at any one time. ;)

hi :)
I started today,I have gradually been cutting out foods that dont give me energy over the last week.
I will do this for as long as it feels good :)
good luck :)
Thanks Aleesha ~ That makes sense about how hydrated you are. I do feel "very hydrated" and honestly, somewhat bloated at times.
I'm looking forward to the next phase of this - the fruit & veggie juices. I'm looking over Rene Oswald's Juice Feasting Ebook I purchased some months back to get ideas as I'm relatively new to green juicing and have basically stuck to 1 green juice recipe without a lot of variations. *Ü*

So far, so good! I'm exactly halfway through it on page 41 of 82. She talks about daily requirements if you're juice feasting, so that is very good to know. And what to add in to promote BMs. Lots of good info especially for someone like me, newbie, who's never done this before.

When I juice and add the raw protein, I feel good and have no problems. I just don't want to fast for long using the protein like that. I guess I just need more protein for whatever reason. I've thought about smoothies but I hate the veggie/green smoothies! Don't know why but I can't stomach them. I can drink the juice but don't like it in smoothies. And the fruits aren't good for my sugar levels so I avoid them as much as possible. DH makes some great smoothies but he uses fruits mixed with spinach.
Anyway, I will probably just stick with the alternate day fasts for now. I got an email back from a natural doc about 35 miles from here. It looks like it will be about $325 for the initial visit and hair test, though, and more if she does other tests, so it will be a while before I decide to make the change. Followup visits are about $175 (once a month for 3-6 months)... Just don't know if it's worth that much money right now. But I have time to decide and prepare if I do make the switch.
It is so cold here. I am not ready for this!
Aleesha- I hope your son has had a great birth day today! I know it's hard not to have the money to spend on him, though. Better days are ahead for you.

my local market let's me go through the stuff they send to the soup kitchen. they know my hubby is out of work and are assisting us at this time. they are feeding us really well. the produce isn't perfect... often over-ripe etc. but it's perfect for juicing (or making soup for the family).

whew that was a busy day for me. i attended a memorial for a young teen who was killed by a drunk driver in 2004. he died on my son's birthday and his dad was my best friend. he later committed suicide and i've supported his mom (grandma to the boy being remembered tonight) throughout both deaths.

i want juice but it's too cold and quiet in the house to make some... so i'll wait for my hubby to wake up... i think oj/grapefruit is the juice on the agenda for this morning!
I wish the stores here would let us go through the produce - they toss it! I don't know why it's not donated to the food bank. They won't even let folks have it for compost, such a waste.
It was so nice yesterday having the orange & g'fruit juices. Today I'll add green juices.
Aleesha Sattva

i add greens to my tom juice blend... but i just can't do them alone (yuck)... i'm definitely not a green juicer LOL
I couldn't wait to have a 'green' tomato juice this morning. I wasn't disappointed except it was a wee bit HOT with 2 garlic cloves and 1/2 jalapeno in there! I juiced 7 roma tomatoes, 4 stalks celery, 1 cucumber, 1/2 bunch cilantro, lemon and added spices afterwards.
Thanks again Aleesha for mentioning juicing tomatoes later this summer - I'd never juiced them before. SO GOOD!

Why don't we just have this day as a time when family spends time together and forget the gifts."

Wow, Aleesha, 6 months and you still have more you want to release. But hey, having the bliss, that is amazing-and you can enjoy it longer - your body wants it!
Today is my third day, and I am a bit cranky- I blew up after my son asked me for 5 things in a row, all during me trying to sign up for one class online...Well, one was a green smoothie, other was a salad, third was grapefruit juice(first time, just because he saw me drinking- I am curious, if he will drink it), then he wanted computer, and then to find his chalk...
Do you, guys, add any oil to your juices during longer juice fasts?

Your daughter is right on, Aleesha! I have a friend with a daughter who has cerebral palsy. She is very attentive and thoughtful, though, and several years ago she basically said the same thing to her mom. Now they simply give "anytime" or "just because I love you" gifts rather than giving gifts on Christmas.
My body is caffeine free. :) It has been about a year and a half since I had my last soda and longer than that since I had coffee or caffeinated tea. It took me a long time to break the habit. I use to think I couldn't function without it. Now I feel so much better without it!
Today was a crazy, amusing kind of day. Too long a story to write here, but it was just not normal! lol...
(((Hugs))) to everyone. Have a super restful sleep!

we've always done "this moment" gifts... never really subscribed to the whole... you buy because of this occasion so it's nice that christmas (well yule actually) is now coming off that cycle. i love this a lot.
i add oil to my tom juice... either hemp, flax, a vegetarian 3-6-9 or coconut oil. depending on what my hand reaches for in the fridge LOL oh and i've used avocado oil as well. that is a nice oil. i should get some more!
free, i let me kids know "mom is fasting... so i might be grumpy... if i am... ignore me. it's not you... it's just what happens sometime" and then when i notice i'm grumpy... i apologize for it. ;) communication is key IMO.

I'm also impressed with my earthing mat. I haven't slept as long the last couple of nights but I have slept very soundly and feel fine when I wake up! My sis even got one to try out. She has a very high stress job and needs all the help she can get with coping.

I'm hoping to be water fasting by the weekend as I have the 'dinner' to attend to celebrate my 6 months of fasting and would like to be doing water for that. Had more dreams last night when usually. In a way it is nice-something different. Also my skin is starting to glow, and I am just on the 4th day. I won't be counting days, but for now I am -waiting to get to 7th day, because I am missing that free bliss... Aleesha, do you feel bliss most days after that? Also how much oil do you put into juices and starting when? I googled a bit about it and some websites say, that oil might bring back hunger, so I guess it has to be a very small amount.
Myssic, what is earting mat-something you sleep on the floor with or on the bed? Good luck with your guests!

i put about a tsp oil in my tom juice... and i do it whenever i think of it. sometimes i don't do it for months... then i do it for a day or two... other times i do it often.
i just don't really follow any set anything to be honest.
i find my bliss usually starts pretty early on now... there is no specific day that it begins. some days i'm in the zone... other days notsomuch. my first 105 days were pretty much ease and then things got a little more challenging. ;) but hey... it's fasting... it's supposed to be challenging - that's kinda the point isn't it?
i know it's why i do it... i love to challenge my Self to see where it will take me, what gifts will come of it... i love that about fasting.
of course the health is the real motivation!!!

i am going to do water soon... perhaps sooner than later at this rate (hard to juice at this time and hubby is sick)... so we'll see. perhaps i'll just gift my produce to the family and do the water thing for a bit.

glidder... you aren't interrupting anything... you are part of it babe!!!
menelwen, i hear you... i hear you.
well... woke up this morning and my body says, "we are water fasting" i say, "but we have produce" and my body says, "i don't give a * what you got *... we are water fasting"
so apparently i'm water fasting. got a litre in me already... christmas lights on and it's so pretty in here right now. total darkness except the colourful lights... ahhhhh bliss.
i'm finding an interesting pattern emerging for my Self. when my period comes... my body wants to water fast. i'm not making a big deal out of this... just going to continue to watch and see if it continues to happen.
interesting...
so... lady aredhel second breakfast with water? that cool with you? cause you knows i needs it, you knows i wants it... you knows i loves it.
i spoke to my body last night and asked it to skip the heartburn. i did a little more research on it and although i don't believe much of what the guy said on his site... he mentioned that heartburn is caused by detox. that the body is consuming the toxins and that's what causes it??? well if that's the case i should celebrate any heartburn i get. what i found odd is he said it ends are day 9-11. so... if it's detox why would it end?
makes me think it's more of a side-effect of water fasting rather than consumption of toxins.
anyway... i'm in this. i'm here. i'm ready. my big girl panties are on and pulled up snug as a bug on a rug. (oh i just read that in a different context and i'm laughing pretty hard here LOL)
giggling...

and miss... i have a question for you. what worked for you before? you were fasting before and you were fine. what combos were you consuming. were you drinking more juice? can you think of anything you had (supplement-wise or spices or ???) cause something changed for you... can you think of what it was?
or... was it your loss? is that when it changed? could this be your body's response to this on an emotional level?
(((hugs))) regardless... love ya miss.

Hey, I'm fasting today. Wasn't expecting too, but just woke up feeling in the mood to fast! So here I am, ta da!! :)
I've got cantaloupes, melons, and cucumbers I can juice for today!!
Just want to say this really quick, in some ways I wish I could be a nurse who is a personal trainer/nutritionist/herbalist/metaphysic teacher who promotes raw food and herbs. And to be to able to find a place that welcomes that kind of a nurse...... Just wanted to say that! :D Don't know if it'll ever become reality!
Aleesha, I hope you don't mind me bringing this up about the heartburn. I thought it would be interesting to look it up from a metaphysic point of view. So from this point of view, heartburn comes from fear and the affirmation for it is I breathe freely and full, I am safe. I trust the process of life. And for your hands for speedy healing, I've choose to handle all my experiences with love and joy with ease. (((HUGS)))!!!
I'm on my break today for P90X so it's a perfect day to fast!! :)

Aleesha, can you check your water ph. I usually use that water you refill at the stores and it tends to be clean(it goes through like 7 filters), but acidic, and if i drink it on empty stomach it makes me nauseous, but when i tried alkaline water(basically the same water with a bit of alkaline minerals added), it didn't happen. Not sure, that's where heartburn might come, but you can try - you can add just a bit of lemon juice to it and it becomes alkaline.

Aleesha- I do think it had something to do with my dad's passing. It seems like that is when it all got harder and my body just didn't cooperate with me. It cold be the stress just took a lot out of me and probably messed up some of my levels. i'm home... finally. ahhhhh i just want to cuddle up on the couch under a blankee and relax.
:)
I have two different experiences of loss and fasting. The first one was when my best friend committed suicide. I had just finished fasting and so I started another fast immediately. I found that fasting really assisted me to get through the pain etc.
When my Mom passed... I couldn't fast. I tried.. and just couldn't make it longer than a few hours to a few days. (as I remember)... it was just too much to have on my plate. I needed a break but was eating emotionally regardless.
I was (obviously) not fasting when I miscarried. I did a fast shortly after. I found that I could only fast a few days... I did manage one 45 day fast but most of the time I would try and break and try again and then break... over and over again.
It (for me) was like... I was in the zone when Darryl passed... so going back into the zone wasn't difficult and I found ease and comfort within that fast. But with my Mom and my miscarriage... I wasn't in the zone so getting into the zone was like an insurmountable crevice and I couldn't find a bridge no matter how hard I tried or wanted to. I desired to fast... so strongly... but my body wouldn't let me.
What changed? I have no idea. All I can tell you is that it did. It has. I wonder (with no knowledge to back it up) if it was simply time. Perhaps I had finally gifted myself enough time for mourning. Perhaps a switch just flipped in my head and all of a sudden it worked... I could fast again.
So... the point of this ramble? Ya I do have one.
Please don't think that just because it's really hard right now, that it will be forever. Time heals. Your body, mind and spirit will heal... and when it's ready, when you are ready... you will be able to fast again.
Cause I don't think it's a physical thing Miss... I think this is all about loss and mourning. So please be gentle with yourself and rather than trying to find a cause... just embrace the experience. Tell your Self that it's okay. You understand. Let yourself know that when you are ready to fast... then you can fast again. In the meantime, little short fasts are a gift and embrace as that.
*or simply ignore me - I'm cool with either! * (((hugs)))

Aleesha, how's the water fast going so far? Wondering if the affirmation help a bit? Hope so. :)
You know what... I think it has! Not only do I feel amazing... I feel energized and really ... enlightened today. I feel light.
The heartburn doesn't usually set in until day 2+ but so far so good. I'm really pleased.
I had such a great day today. If every day on water could be like this... I'd easily do 40 days (which is my personal goal... one day I hope to achieve this).
But for right now... I'm just taking this moment by moment... day by day... and I'll go back juice whenever I need to. It would be nice though... if that didn't happen until 2011!

Lady Awen- Thank you so much for sharing. That could be exactly what my body is going through right now. I know I am grieving some for my dad and the others we have lost this year, although I think the hardest part on me right now is being concerned about my mom and her being so far away. She has lots of family and neighbors there to help her out, but I know it's not the same to her as having her own children around and neither of us live close. We both talk to her every day, but it's not the same.
I've also noticed that since I've lost the weight, I've also lost so much strength in my upper body when I do my weight workouts. I am trying to gain some of that back as well.
Congratulations on your month fasting mark! I guess it's still a few hours away, but close enough!
I have to go get my workout in and go run some errands. Hugs and happy Saturday everyone!

Good Morning Fellow Fasters......
I'm having my first qt. of water for the day :)
On the menu today is most likely ..... pineapple/cucumber w/coconut water....green lemade....and my precious tomato/veggie juice
It amazes me how "full" my body is going into a fast. I think thats why I don't feel real well before a fast. I had around 4 BM yesterday and I still feel like I need to "go". I think I just don't really digest very well and when I overeat, it makes things worse.
So....... fast for now and then praying for the strength to eat the way that is healthy for me when I'm done fasting.

I think I drank too many water shots! I am a cheap date and get tipsy very easily! lol... I will be tipping into the bathroom very soon! :-)
I went out early this morning to beat the rush! Had some banking to do and a couple of things to get at Target... Then needed a couple of things at the natural store right near there. By the time I headed for home it was getting busy, but when I first went, there was hardly any traffic even around the mall!
Still have to go to Sams to get supplies for work. I am not looking forward to it, but it has to be done and since I'm one of the few with a company credit card, I am the lucky one who gets to do it! lol... It's really not so bad when it isn't Christmastime, though, so I figure if I just get thru this trip, it'll be another month before I have to go again and the crowds will be gone.

one... If I get heartburn I could just do a small shot of bentonite clay... I would think that would take care of it???
two... I go into "let's detox" overload when I water fast. I do. I do detox baths... I have extra attunemets, I did a sweat lodge... I do everything I can to assist the detox. I realized today... I should just let it flow naturally. No wonder I get so sick... I'm pushing it pushing it pushing it!

Sams was insane! The worst part was getting parked. Once inside it wasn't so bad. I go enough for work that I know pretty much where everything I need to get is located. We did well, though. We both have been learning calmness so even in the midst of the chaos, we did fine.
We are watching "You Don't Know Jack" (about Jack Kevorkian). It is very interesting. Very touchy subject. I can understand both sides, though.

"When He has tested me, I will come forth as gold." I am clinging to those words this year. DH's cousin, who has the bad cancer and will have a 6-8 hour surgery next Wednesday is in the hospital tonight. Her cath bag was full of blood this afternoon so they took her to the hospital. And my son's aunt (his dad's sister) had surgery to remove a tumor from her stomach yesterday. What an unbelievable year we have had! This life is so temporary. And now I am sitting here pulling myself away from my own issues... They are so small compared to what loved ones as well as others I don't even know have had or are going through. I am humbled at the realization. May I always have a thankful heart for the good health and abilities I have. And may I always have love and compassion for those who are going through such horrible circumstances.
Aleesha- It was a very good movie. I was so caught up in the whole movie. I lived in MI and in the same county as Dr. K during some of those controversial years so it brought back a lot of memories of all that went on. I want to say that it shouldn't be allowed yet part of me understands and hurts for those who are caught in such bad places in life that they don't have any quality of life and really do not want to go on any longer. I have always been torn over it.
My heart just feels so heavy tonight. I want to wrap my arms around all the innocent, hurting people and just hold them.

Joining in with water and juice shots! Celebrating Aleesha's six months and our days(today is 7th for me -love number 7!) Really there are people who fasted longer than six months? How long did they fast? It seems like my body is melting more and more everyday, but I probably don't drink as much juice as feasters do. And it slows down later.
Yesterday I didn't feel like juicing, but then felt slight headache comming in and decided to drink juice anyway(when i get a headache it is much worse than childbirth, so i am scared of them during the fast when we can't take a painkiller), and it was a good thing, because I avoided a headache and also we went bike riding afternoon for a few miles, and it made me tired even with juice. And then we got a Christmas tree and my son just had to have it decorated, even though it was his bedtime. Feeling very slow and peaceful.
Drinking cabbage-orange-frapefruit juice to our fasting bliss!

Good afternoon!
I didn't post this morning. I was not in the best of moods. I slept terribly... Long story so I won't even explain that. Then I thought my laptop was fried. Then my blow dryer started smelling hot when I was using it, so not sure if it's about fried or not. I didn't use it long cause I didn't feel like dealing with it yet. Then my mom had an accident with a deer last night. Not much damage but she was shaken and very upset about Dad not being there to help get thru it. Cousin my have an infection and if it isn't clear by Wednesday they will postpone her surgery... Then we saw singer friends hubby at the grocery store and he looks awful... Not sleeping well and she isn't doing good.
So, it seemed like my whole world was about to crumble all at once...
-But DH fixed the laptop when he got up.
-I have another old blow dryer if I should need it.
-Mom has calmed down some and is handling it better.
-Cousin is home and we're hoping for the best.
-I hurt for our friend but all we can do is pray... And DH offered to go over any time to watch her if he needs to go out for anything.
I am choosing to be positive. My body needs me to be positive! I can't fix every problem and not every problem is meant to be fixed. Today is still a good day and I am very blessed.
DH wants me to type out his story for him. I guess I will have a project! But it is good and I am glad he wants to do it. He really and truly is a walking miracle and he needs to put it all in writing to help others.

(((hugs))) Menelwen... everything happens for a reason, even if we don't know what it is. I want to say though "metaphysically speaking" that you are fried. You are totally fried. Hence the things around you acting/being fried as well.
How about something totally pampering for you? A spa day... a massage... a nice long soak in a hot tub...
I'm off to a baking day with homeschoolers and then to my 6 month celebration dinner (still giggling over this one)... later folks!

Hello everyone
I am still juicing I am doing watermelon with kale. I ran out of young coconuts so sad. That is so much easier than juicing. I still miss water fasting it is so much easier for me.
I am always surprised when people water fast for a long time then start eating crap instead of easing back into eating. Then they say water fasting caused all these problems. It is so important to end you fast gently and not just jump into eating.
I plan to juice mostly fruit and a few greens for at least till the 20th.

I ended up in the sauna listening to Christmas music! I enjoyed it. It made me feel more festive. Then I drank juice and am just chilling out. Trying not to think too much! lol
Some of my family went to see Mom today and helped cheer her up some more and let her vent. Then played a game of Scrabble with her.
I'm looking forward to bedtime tonight. I am ready to sleep!
Have a super Sunday evening ya'll!

joining the fasting thread for this month. :)
recently returned home from 6 months of being "on the road".
Mexico particularly, provided a lot of hurdles on my raw food journey, but I was able to witness further, how detrimental a poor diet is to your physical and mental health, which is only more motivation to keep doing what I am doing!
After traveling in Southern, Central, and North America, I am SO glad to be back in Canada. I missed it's fresh beauty and I missed having a space to harness my own beauty in.
I come home because my grandmother is dying. she is dying because she has lived of life of Commotion. She was a heavy smoker half her life, a heavy consumer of SAD foods, and lived with much ignorance in regards to her own body, and to how one reaches health and balance. She's on a million medication proscribed by her many doctors and they are having adverse effects on her body. There are not many days left.
Well, this further encourages me to take care of myself so I began my fast two days ago, and hope to continue for a while so as to de-congest from traveling life. In this time I will be fasting from many sensory pleasures, like sound. These will be days of silence. I am fasting from social activity. I am fasting from all forms of consumption (television, food, alcohol, purchasing)
Thank you for being a wonderful support group and congratulations to all of you headed down the path to more peace and balance. :)

rawmom, i was just telling someone the other day about how pleased i am with how you are breaking your water fast. makes me beam inside... it truly does! i agree... it's super important to break in a slow gentle manner...
mystic, thank you so much. i'm still dancing and twirling... this is an amazing feeling... knowing i've achieved this... it will never go away. ever. i did it!!!
miss, sooooo nice... i'm glad you pampered yourself!
nadien!!! nice to have you back. i've missed your gorgeous energy. so happy to be fasting with you again.
today was great. i was able to stand about 80% of the time, so that was nice. today is day three on water. they had some spring water there so it was a treat. i'm going to get my hubby to get me some for this fast, since the spring is close by. not really sure why we don't harvest it for ourselves... but i'm hoping to change that.
i'm waiting for him to get home and we'll be off to the crystal bowl meditation and dinner. i'll sip on water and watch them all eat - which is fine, doesn't bother me in the least. i honestly look at it this way - none of the food is going into my body... and that is a gift... a gift... cause i won't have to detox it out later!!! LOL
hey you gotta find the silver lining in everything!
happy fasting to you all... i am so blessed to have such an amazing group of individuals to fast with. it's my pleasure... so thank you for joining me in my threads... thank you for posting... and thank you for lurking when you aren't fasting. i love this community of loving, like-minded spirits!!!

oh it's usually a bigger group free... i think it's cause of the christmas season that it's so small.
okay so my night... i have to share. first of all... it was such a beautiful event. soooooooooo bliss-filled. we sat and meditated while they played the bowls for about 45 minutes (i think) and then dinner was served buffet style. everyone ate and loved the food... i enjoyed the smells and drank water out of a wine glass! i felt so pampered and special LOL
the other guests were asking about my fast and we chatted and i loved it all. two ladies were not open - which was fine - didn't bother me at all... but everyone else was very interested.
and then... we were talking about them opening the centre up to overnight events and i suggested a fasting retreat and so... in feb... i'll be leading my first ever three day (and night) fasting retreat. we'll be offering accom. the whole nine yards. do crystal bowl meditations at night... walks along the beach... nature walks... reiki sessions, other healing sessions as well... it'll be magical and pampering and completely amazing!!!
i'm sooooo excited!!!

penny just shared this on fb... had to share it with you all here!
...mixing the juice of a pomegranate, a lemon and a small piece of ginger with cranberries, olive oil, parsley, garlic powder (because that's all I had here), a mixed herb seasoning, Himalayan sea salt, and black pepper. To clarify, after juicing the pom, lemon and ginger, I poured that in the blender with the other ingredients, blended on the "sauces" setting, and arrived at the color I was after. It turned out to be a gingery-n-sweet taste. I know that not everyone's a 'ginger' person, so I wasn't sure how the taste was going to be rec'd, but it went over well. Anyway, I had some leftover and poured that through the juicer....and the thickness of the sauce disappeared, so I ended up with a wonderful JUICE with the lemon then being somewhat of the more dominant flavor.

all of this talk of ginger has me making some ginger tea RIGHT NOW.
Tea has been a big part of my fast right now, as the temperature hits -18 degrees here in Ontario.
At night I have been drinking passionflower/chamomile tea.
This morning I made a nice blend of lemon juice, warm water, pomegranite juice, and some stinging nettle that I collected in British Columbia. I have a lot of cranberries, so I am going to juice them and this will be my first time so lets see how it goes. does anyone have a good cranberry recipe?
Aleesha, may I just say that this fasting retreat sounds really amazing.
I wish I could take part. You're so blessed to have this opportunity, and really from what I've seen, the perfect candidate to lead such a thing. :)
I think we are all so strong for fasting in the Winter and fasting so close to Christmas, when everyone else is eating ginger in it's Not so healthy forms (as I'm sure you know what I mean).
It's so beautiful to see such a strong collective of people.

we are a shining example of what someone can do if they set their minds to it!
i've been cooking, baking and shopping all day. i'm bushed.
i'm a little short tempered... which i have to watch - my family doesn't appreciate me speaking my mind without censoring it first LOL
now i'm sitting and shall continue till i go to bed!
oh i went to the thrift store today and got 14 jars to store my juice in. i have 3 pineapples and about 18 young coconuts in the fridge. i'm going to (juice) and freeze them for when my water fast is over.
i'm going to try to water fast for 40 days... don't know if i'll achieve it, but that's my goal. taking it one moment at a time... if it gets too hard... i'll switch back to juice. i'm not here to suffer... just fast. :)

I've always been interested in a 40 day water fast, but I've never achieved it. I have reached two weeks and felt quite well throughout, but just shortly after that mark my body feels really low/drained and I feel like it needs some nourishment.
I am wondering, if I juice fast for a while and fill my body with lots of good nutrients, perhaps it'll give me enough of a boost to pursue a longer water fast...
am I just experiencing a detox crisis, and perhaps I should stick with it beyond the two week mark?
is my body done eating all it's fat and perhaps starting to steal from my muscle?
to those that are following this thread, can anyone back up my questions with experience?
Aleesha Sattva
12-13-2010, 10:26 PM
i have knowledge if that'll assist at all.
your body takes a long time to start consuming muscle. instead... it gets it's protein and other nutrients from your dead cells and any tumours etc that are in your body. hence why it's so healing.
you should really read the stickie i posted in this section about fasting info... it's a huge amount of info for water fasting!
i'm doing great! i feel better than i've ever felt water fasting ever. ahhhhh so nice to have so much energy and NO HEARTBURN!!!

i feel so silly for not realizing you had made this fasting "sticky"
really good sources of information. ah, thanks so much for compiling this. As much as I've read in the past, I've still learned tons more!
I hadn't put two and two together when a friend of mind embarked on a water fast with me a couple months ago.
He was immediately struck with abnormally extreme fatigue; while I was slow, he was flattened by a truck. He told me that perhaps he wasn't the kind of person that should fast, and I was very apprehensive to agree, as i think EVERYONE should fast (at least once a week!), I eventually did agree, as a second try had a similar affect on his body, and in his totally taxed state, I took pity and said, "okay, you shouldn't do this".
Perhaps, given what I've noticed since his fasting attempts wherein I began taking a large interest in his health (noticing: digestive issues, gas, bad breath, bleeding gums, bad eye sight, severe dandruff, anemia, lower back pain, addiction to sugar and coffee...) he is just extremely toxic and when he goes into fasting/healing mode, there is SO much healing to be done, that he is WIPED out energy-wise, and should in fact Continue fasting.
(however maybe he should begin with a juice fast? so as to make up for all the nutrients he's deprived his body of all his life, and so that the detox effects don't hit him so hard?)
Well, I'm even more excited to embark on a water fast this time, because I have learned so much to take with me into it. Every time you fast, you become stronger, and more in tune.
The subject of health gets me so excited. I'm visiting my family right now and they think I'm from another planet! :D

i would suggest your friend begin with a green smoothie fast... a nice gentle detox!
my water fast this time is totally unlike the ones i've done so far. i have energy... i have no heartburn... i am feeling great. total change.
wanna know what i'm doing different? i'm not assisting my body to detox. normally... i got into the sauna for an hour a day, have a detox bath (salts and clay) and do things like Reiki attunements/session etc. this time i'm not going to do anything... i'm going to leave my body alone to do what it needs without interference (or further assistance)...
it's making a huge difference for me.

Just re-reading this... gifting myself some inspiration! Thanks Rawmom!

are you going to continue posting with us and sharing the juicy part of your day? i'd sure love that... if you want to of course. *pleeeeeeeeeeease precious... i needs you... i wants you... i loves you... myyyy precious*
my sleep is really weird on this water fast. i seldom sleep more than a couple of hours and honestly i would just get up and do something except that i know i have a busy day ahead of me and getting up at 2:30am and then functioning all day would be too much. i wonder how long this will last?
i've read of many experiences where fasters only need a few hours of rest a night... perhaps i'm one of them (at this time) and should just simply embrace it. we'll see what tonight brings... cause tomorrow is a total down day (i think anyway) so i could get up early if needed.
i believe today is day 5 on water... and day 185 of this fast. *smiles*

WOW Congratulations on 185 days! And I am so glad your not wiped out with the water fasting. You so much wanted to succeed on it. So I have a question.....Did a light bulb go off one day that you assisted your body too much or something you read? I have to say you are so inspirational to us all. And so educational!! Thank you for sharing your journey!
I have another question for everyone. My youngest son (17) has announced that he wants to join me in the 13 day fast Jan 3rd. I am quite surprised with this because he doesn't like my raw food. I am very happy he wants to do this but my feelings are he is very toxic. The reason I feel this is he ate 100 % raw for 1 1/2 days and came down with a ocular migraine. I am going to make him a green smoothie starting tomorrow to help with his detox. Is there any other advise anyone would have to help him? He really wants to succeed with this and jump start his weight lose. He has a lot to loose.
Thanks in advance for all your help!!

i would strongly suggest he do a green smoothie feast rather than a fast... it's more gentle and still detoxing and he'll release heaps of weight on it.
my lightbulb moment was on day one of this fast i was getting into the tub and grabbed for my clay to create a detox bath... i thought "oh shoot i have a client this after so i shouldn't do this, i may be too wiped out" and then it dawned on me that i was doing heavy detox things every time i water fasted... so i chose to stop. :) i shared about it in detail in this thread... a few days ago. but that's it in a nutshell.

Yes, detoxing is a balancing game - how much to do to detox without overdetoxing too quickly. Actually for people with cancer and other serious toxemic problems that might be a difference between living or dieying. Well, for us, it is about life being more pleasant and in a long run being healthier too, because we don't overstress our organs.
I listen to your advice, Aleesha, and got up in the morning slowly - first I sat for a few minutes on the bed, and voila! No darkness in my eyes! Yesterday I took a hot bath, and started feeling dizzy, and got up quickly, and then had major darkening and buzzing. I think hot baths during fasting is not a great idea, for me, anyway.
Apple- cellery- grapefruit juice this morning. I put grapefruit almost to anything, because in our farmers market you can get 25 pound bag for 6 dollars...

I love hot baths while fasting... but I usually do them at night, right before bed. So I get out of the tub and lay in a warm, cozy bed. Ahhhhhhhh ;)
Precious... how can I not share the juicey parts of my day **giggle** I will totally be here.... I usually am anyways, but I'll post this time ;) I needs it too precious.... yes..yes.. I doooooooo
I've had my first qt. of water for the day and I just finished some carrot/celery juice with barley greens.
I was able to get some pineapples pretty cheep, so I'll be making that later.
I am in a very good place right now. I pray I will stay here. Taking each day as it comes and not worrying about tomorrow is sooooooo "peaceful" for lack of a better word. I want to continue down this path and explore all that the Lord has for me.

Today has been a whirlwind! My boss and I went and delivered gifts to the family we adopted at work. They were so thankful. It was exciting and helped me feel more in the spirit of Christmas and giving.
Then, I've had a problem with a toe that I injured a year ago and it ended up getting fungus and I've tried every natural treatment I could find to try and some my ND recommended, but it got nasty and started oozing (gross) and got swollen and red the past few days. I was afraid of infection so called and got in to see a podiatrist today. He didn't think there was infection but thinks it was an allergic reaction to some of the treatments I've been trying. He thinks maybe the tea tree oil but isn't sure. He ended up taking the toenail off (even more gross) and sent me for bloodwork to see if my liver function is good and he wants me on Lamisil. I don't want to do it so if my ND can suggest something natural I can do instead, I'm going to do it and forget the Rx.
I'd dreaded the thought of possibly having the nail taken off, but I'm glad it's over! He didn't have to numb the toe and all I felt for the most part was a lot of pressure and a little pain at the very end. I was a little queasy. I couldn't watch. DH wants to tell me what it looked like. I told him to wait till my tummy feels stronger! lol...
Other than that, things are going well. My sis and nephew decided to fly to NY to spend Christmas with my mom, so that makes me feel much better. Mom doesn't know so it will be a surprise. My cousin or aunt will take care of getting them from the airport or they might even get my mom to ride with them but not tell her what is going on. I'm excited and can't wait to hear what happens!
I'm going to chill out tonight and try to relax and get my brain into a calmer place. The past few days dealing with this toe has been a bit stressful.
Keep up all the great fasting and have a relaxing evening, everyone!

free, it is not wise to have hot baths while fasting and esp not while water fasting. a warm bath is fine. when you get up and almost black out... your water is too hot. what i do... i have a hot bath and then i add a bunch of cold and sit in a slightly warm bath for another 5 minutes... then i get out!
lady aredhel... ahhhhh good. i'm not ready for you to leave me yet.

i just got home from the homeschooling party. i'm beyond exhausted. too much in too many days i think... i need a nap. i need to rest. i don't wanna stand up again today.
it was a bit of a challenge at the party today but what i really wanted was some tea and i obviously can't have any. i had warmed water... but it didn't cut the cheese for me at all. oh well... i'm home now and don't have anything to do till thursday

Have a nice relaxing day, Aleesha.
I am juice fasting but not juice feasting, I measured today my juices and I am not drinking even half of the gallon. A gallon is a lot!

baths are all the rage!
had a nice quiet day reading. did some calm yoga and went for a walk this evening in the forest.
had a nice lavender bath when I got home and finished off the evening with chamomile tea.
Tomorrow I will be drinking just water.
I'm excited for this water fast because a couple of days ago I tried to squeeze a ring onto my finger I'd gotten from an old friend.
It got stuck! and I've desperately tried everything I can think of to get it off, as it is causing some swelling.
After a few days of water, I'm sure it'll slip off in the night.
sleep well everyone.
(something my friend taught me to help bring in calmness, is to take a deep breath and then exhale as much as you possibly can until every last bit of air has left your lungs. do this several times. this Very Deep breathing gets rid of old chi, allows you to focus on now. )

Hi fasting friends! I'm not fasting but I did lazy lady juicing this morning. That would be blending in the vitamix with additional water then straining out the pulp. So easy! I'm just curious if anyone else is doing this or what you think of it. Just didn't feel like lugging out the greenstar. But next time I need to remember to leave out the ginger, just doesn't agree with me.....

I thought maybe I'd stop fasting for Christmas, so that I can make some christmas treats to enjoy, so as to not be totally teased by what the rest of my family is eating (sad treats), but after being home for a few days now, and seeing the way my family eats, the way they treat their bodies and minds, how much television they watch, how little they talk to one another, how uncreative they CHOOSE to be, where their sparse conversation is directed, how they will not go outside unless it is to get to the car, how MUCH they are in the kitchen cooking up stagnating foods in the worst combinations...
I can't think of anything else BUT to fast through Christmas. I have reached a point where I am no longer allured by these foods. They do not call to me. This is not even about strength. This is about a total mind and body transformation that has occurred. What my family and many alike are doing to their bodies, what they call food, doesn't make sense to me anymore. It seems very very foreign.
I am sticking to this fast for as long as I can and I might even be sipping water on New Years :)
Aleesha, I just want to say that, I am experiencing also, how relationships change when You choose to change and become purer.
You are witness to this divergence taking place in some relationships, while others reveal themselves as infinitely bound.

Really craved watermelon, so I got couple small ones, even though they are not in season. I am not sure how much I drink of water, but today I am very thirsty no matter how much I drink. I better go juice another melon.

I'm staying pretty busy here, too. But it's an enjoyable busy and I'm getting more into the holiday spirit now. I am feeling better and a bit stronger. I think I am learning to cope with the grieving better. My poor mom has been housebound a lot more and she's trying to keep busy so she won't get too depressed. Their winter weather has already been pretty harsh. I will be glad when spring comes so she can get out again and not be cooped up so much.
It really is a "disturbing" time of the year for seeing people put some of the most awful stuff in their bodies. I have lost my taste for most of it... Not quite all of it, but most of it just doesn't phase me and the rest of it is less appealing than it use to be. I realize I can live without it!

we got our 'gift box' from my hubby's brother's family. there is one thing in there that's my fav... my absolute fav. makes me sick but i looooove it. i just smelled it, let one tear roll out of my eye and then put on my big girl panties and chose to continue fasting rather than put stuff like that info my body.
*deeeeeep breath*
and i'm good now LOL

yup... we all need 'em. they are very helpful indeed!!!
just wrote the preamble for my fasting retreat... what do you all think?
Juice fasting (or feasting depending on the amount of juice you choose to consume per day) is a great way to gift your body a rest from the work of digesting your food. It also gifts your body the time to cleanse out toxins and begin the process of healing. You will not heal major dis-eases in three days but you will begin the process. Once you’ve completed a three-day fast - you can safely move into a ten-day fast on your own.
The information given to you during this retreat will empower you to move forward with confidence. No one should fast without knowledge and I’m happy to enlighten you as you begin this journey into a new you!
During the fast we will be consuming fresh live raw juices - made with a Champion or Greenstar juicer and plenty of filtered water. Being in a safe environment while fasting is such a lovely way to experience this. No worries about feeding others or smelling foods being prepared. This is a vacation away from your life - what a treat of a retreat!*
Remember that fasting for any length of time is a gift and three days is a nice way to introduce yourself to the process of this wonderful healing modality. This is not a long fast so breaking it with ease will be simple. Please make sure you have soft fruit (like soaked prunes, a papaya or mango for example) at home for when you break your fast on the morning of the fourth day.

It looks like I'll be going in to work late today since we have freezing rain and it's sticking to the roads. There are accidents all over and more happening every minute so it isn't worth it to me. My boss told me the other day that if he had my car, he'd leave it parked in any kind of bad weather! lol... I told him that I don't make enough in one day to cover the deductible if I did have an accident, so it definitely wouldn't be out in bad weather! I'm fortunate to work for understanding people. My last job wasn't that way. The boss there didn't care if you had to risk your life to get to work... You needed to get there! If you didn't or if you were late, you would get "picked on" for being a wimp! So glad I'm not there anymore! One of my coworker friends and another guy in our warehouse use to work at the same place and they feel the same way now!
Anyway, it's a fasting day for me so I guess I'll go find something to keep me busy since I don't have any food preparation to do! lol

i had some very weird dreams last night... well actually this morning. still having weird sleep-time. i fall asleep for a few hours and then i'm dozing more than sleeping the rest of the night, waking every hour or two.
gotta do all my baking today with two lovely little girls so it'll be fun. other than that... i am NOT getting out of my pjs today. absolutely NOT.
water water and more water for me today... today is day 7 and still no heartburn!

feeling very lightheaded today.
didn't sleep well last night either. went to bed late, and couldn't relax my mind. it took a long time to finally drift into sleep. Had dreams that revolved around self-conscious issues.
Things are coming to the surface!
The cold has also set in. I feel slow and easily chilled.

Drinking my juice and going to practise guitar with my classmate - tonight is our final in community college guitar class. Usually I am a chicken, when i have to sing and play in front of anyone, but today - in a fasting zone, and I don't care...

some thoughts...
meditated and stood on my head and it gave me my heat back!
drinking my water warm is very soothing. I think this is what will keep me going.
I'm not hungry! because I'm FASTING. meditating on this fact, the idea that I am in a mode of HEALING right now, eliminates hunger, desire.. it strengthens will power. My whole body becomes tuned into this, not just my head.
What are the strongest drivers for your fast?
mine are:
*for further Self-enlightenment
*to be a Vessel for Beauty, Pure Intelligent Thought.
*for the boy that adores me and whom I adore. I want to be bright for him! And I want to be inspiration for him, as he is for me.

many of us posted ours on the first and second page of this thread but here's mine:

Thank you, Aleesha, those photos are wonderful. And you are saying, that you still want to release 25 pounds?!
Today is my day 11 and i got an interesting detox thing - I feel weird taste in my mouth - not all the way bitter, but somewhere towards it. And slight tingling in my mouth. And a thick coating on my teeth and mouth, and brushing doesn't do much. I hope it won't last long, because it is not pleasant. On the other hand it doesn't get dark in my eyes anymore as quickly. And i am not as thirsty as yesterday.
What are the strongest drivers for my fast now? Well, to tell you the truth, it is not health, detox or looks for me this time at all. I just want to feel that wonderful inner peace, that fasting gives me for free(I don't need to meditate or look for positive thoughts). There are things I am going through right now, and feeling inner peace during them is very important to me. Efortless inner peace is my fasting driver. And it totally works. Of course, I still go through detox, but that is a small price to pay.
Aleesha Sattva
12-16-2010, 06:51 PM
you are going through detox... so you are paying the price. but i agree with you. i love the zone i get into while fasting. i just looooooove the zone. and i've been in the zone for 6 months!!
i did a bunch of baking with my daughter and her friend and i almost didn't make it through... and i couldn't stop. we had things in the oven etc and i couldn't just go rest... bad choice. very bad choice. i thought i was going to pass out a few times. :( oh well... i've learned. no more baking while i'm the only adult! (besides i'm done regardless)
most of these horrible fat producing treats will be leaving the house with my daughter's friend today so i'm pleased. :)
my lips are so chapped. i find this with water fasting but oddly... they are MORE chapped today and i've drank more water today than other days. weird.
i'm drinking the demineralized water. not noticing any difference in how i feel... but it is supposed to better for us and since i'm water fasting... i want the best. i have some large jugs for my hubby to fill up with spring water but he hasn't done it. i'm hoping he'll be willing to do it in the dark for me tomorrow... but who knows. (he's working during the light hours of the day)
i'm off for the night. doubt i'll be back. happy blessings to you all (((hugs)))

I'm starting to get my groove back, I think! A lot of the stressful issues I've been dealing with are calming down some and I feel my body actually wanting to fast. Lately it has been more my brain trying to make my body fast, so having my body really "FEEL" like fasting is a good thing. I will take baby steps and try 2 days for starters. The only thing I dread is that this next week at work is gonna be nuts cause people tend to bring in lots of stuff that I don't want to be around! Normally it doesn't bother me, but I'm still dreading it.
I work with quite a few people who you would think were starving to hear them talk... It is about food food food all day long every single day! They just get done eating breakfast or their morning snack and then they are talking about where they want to order lunch from... Then after that it is afternoon snack and then they are talking about what they will have for dinner! I really have to tune them out some days. I'd like to record all their conversations about food and then play it back to them so they'd hear how obsessed they are!
Anyway... Good night everyone!

As from one elf to another, Melenwen..... Means Heavenly right.....
I know you're going through some tough times and I feel for you.
Find the good and the heavenly for each day which is very very very healing and really uplifts the spirit. Even if it just the smallest detail of the day. The more you find the good in your life, the more it will expand.
Take a shower of love and be refreshed!!
May the greatness in tomorrow and everyday find you well. :)

i just had a nice long warm, then cool bath. i feel refreshed.
i really looked at myself naked in the mirror... amazing how thin i am. i've never been this thin ever. even when i was at this weight... i was chunky (and shorter obviously) so this is new ground. i still have fat to release... but it's truly amazing how thin my arms and side profile is.

Lady Winday- I will heed your advice! Thank you! This has really been a good week for me. I have gotten myself refocused on the important things and it is making all the difference. And I just keep reminding myself that I can't fix everything and not everything is meant to be fixed (at least not the way I think it should be!).
Lady Awen- I hope you wake up today feeling 100% and full of contentment and none of the horrid feelings. Congratulations on your new skinny little self! :D

I'm not feeling very well at all this morning. I think this will be my last day on water. We celebrate Yule so Monday and Tuesday are the days of fun and presents etc. I don't want to be feeling horrid on those days. I can water fast again after.
So I'll see how today unfolds, but I'll probably break my water fast with coconut water tomorrow.

Yes, Aleesha, listen to your body. We are not here to be "heroes"-we are here to feel good and be challenged sometimes, but not overboard.
Yesterday was very funny - in the morning I felt lousy with awful taste in my mouth and lower energy in afternoon, then- I got this amazing energy in early night - I can't remember I felt this last time- it felt so gooooooood!!!!! Then i went to bed and started feeling very cold - I kept getting up and putting on more clothes and blankets untill I had two long sleeve shirts and two thick sweaters on, two pants(wasn't easy to put them on top of each other), two pairs of socks, down comforter, and four blankets. I slept like this the whole night, and was not too warm at all. In the morning, it was okey to peel some layers off. Phew!
Well, now I am curious how it will feel today. So far feeling fine-not as high energy as yesterday night, yet still very good.
