Who's participating in the 30 day challenge for this month? What are your hopes and wishes for this experience?
I am in for this challenge! I am going to meditate on the hopes and dreams because it's not all about weight loss for me.

Yes - I want to explore ways to stay raw in freezing cold weather, and ways to stay raw when I'm incredibly busy and away from home (and a kitchen) for 12-16 hours a day.

I'm going to do the 30 day challenge for December. My hopes and dreams for this experience-- well it's not about weight loss --since I was 130 and now down to 100. I have always been thin. So hopes and dreams--to channel my energy into bike riding. Also, the arththris in my knees is gone--now want to see it start to disappear in my fingers. (They don't hurt--just a slight bit swollen).
I'm in even though I'll be starting this Sunday after the holiday. I plan on staying 100% raw for at least 3 months. Magical things happen when I'm raw. My life flows so much better. It's nice to have this forum as I can check in every day and read your posts too. For me it's about losing weight and my spirituality, although I'm not overly overweight. I'd love to lose about 25 pounds or 7-8% body fat and boy is that plenty!!
On another note, blizzard, I noticed inflammation in my right knuckles years ago and even when I did an extended juice fast all swelling in my other joints was gone, except the fingers. I'm not sure what the deal is with the fingers and even when I'm raw it doesn't hurt nor is it active but it's still swollen. I'd be curious to see what happened if I were raw for at least 6 months and cut out all the possible trigger foods such as nightshades. Are you sensitive to nightshades blizzard?
Anyway, looking forward to the raw challenge in December!

Hmmm so Zuri it is possible that the swelling in my fingers won't disappear--that is ok as long as they don't hurt! They don't. I don't know if I'm senstive to nightshades--I've never cut them out. I love my tomatoes and peppers! I might try it sometime but as long as the knees are working and the fingers don't hurt--well, I might not! :)
Me too, looking forward to the December 30 day.

I'd say anything is possible blizzard. :) I'm with you though. As long as my other joints are A-okay then I'm fine with it. Inflammation is interesting! See you on the monthly challenge board. :)

I am definitely going to participate! I have been really busy and not posted as much as I wanted in the November challenge. I am going to get creative and make more recipes during December.
I hope there will be participation because I always get inspired by reading what everyone else is doing.
Hopes and Dreams: Release 30 pounds before I turn 40 next year!!! I love the feeling of being 100% raw, I feel lighter, more energetic, and have a calmer energy (not mood swings but nice even energy!)
Peace to you all! I will be starting on Monday, November 29 with a clean slate...100%....I want to stay that way for at least 3 months to see where it takes me. In the past, I felt THE BEST I HAD EVER FELT WHEN I STAYED RAW FOR 63 STRAIGHT DAYS!!! I am going back to that!! I will be a FABULOUS FORTY year old when May 30th gets here!!!:D

Hey there tville'! Peace to you too. I remember you from the good old days on the board! Nice to see you on here again. :) I'm definitely about participating. I have a new dehydrator...EXCALIBUR (YAY) I'm paying on which I hope to get paid off in the next few weeks. I got the newest one in black with the timer (9 tray). Even though I only really make crackers and kale chips it'll still be nice to have and to try something new!
That's a wonderful goal tville' and you can do it! Wow, the big 40! It just gets better and better the younger/older we get, right? I love it! Exactly, even energy is the best word to describe being 100% raw. :) You'll be able to meet your goals and then some tville'. :) 3 IS the MAGIC number. Oh yeah!

I am going to give myself a head-start this week (with the exception of Thanksgiving, but I will be making healthy vegetarian/vegan recipes for that) and I cannot wait to officially join the challenge in December! I already am in love with overnight oats and smoothies, so there is breakfast! My biggest challenge will be finding a filling, raw meal to pack for lunch and the same for when I get home for dinner. I also drink coffee and tea everyday and I am going cold turkey (literally, cold!) on that one today. I have a few questions:
-Do you have a juicer? What brand and is it reliable?
-The same for a dehydrator.... I am wanting to make my own raw breads, crackers, dried fruit
-Do you feel deprived of warm foods in the winter?
Thanks!

I do have a juicer-- but don't use it.
I have an Excalibur--9 trays with a timer. It is fantastic!
I haven't been thru winter yet-so don't know if I'll feel deprived of warm food. I've been raw for 3 months.

Hi farner, I'm excited too! Hello all as well. What are overnight oats? Wow, you're going cold turkey? I suppose the first few days will be the worse? Take it easy on yourself and you can do it especially with those green smoothies to support ya I'd think.
I do have a juicer by Omega. I love it. Have had it for oh, about 3 yrs or so and have used it a lot to juice. It comes with other attachments to make ice cream, nut butters, pasta (we wouldn't be needing that though) and some other ones I haven't used. I also now have a L'Equip dehydrator because at first I was against the Excalibur but now that it's been 3 yrs I'm ready to buy the Excalibur. I have it on layaway with the company now. The way the Excalibur is designed makes it very easy to make things in bulk if need be if you get the 9 tray, and you can warm up soups while keeping them raw, in their bowl in that thing as long as you take the trays out and I love the addition of a timer.
I've been raw in winter before and initially it can be pretty difficult not having warm foods, but once I got in gear it was GREAT! No problems for me, though everybody is different. I found that I did run cold more though, but for me being in bliss canceled all of that out. You could utilize your dehydrator more if that's the case to warm raw dishes and use more warming herbs and spices.
I think I may change my start day to Monday so I can prep more thoroughly over the weekend. I'm still on the fence about this. :)

Surprise! A wild Kitter appears.. =D
I've been in and out and up and down and who knows where for the last six months. And I'm a ta spot where the doc says.... "Fix your sugar or else" complete with a /shakes fist for emphasis.
What am I hoping to get out of it? The first 30 days raw again. (I know, I know better than to go back!)

I have to start over...
The best way to start again is with a 30-day challenge. It won't be easy to get back to raw, but I remember how much support this group of people provides. So I'm in (except for one day during the month when I have to go to an out of town function, but I'm not going to mention it! Besides, December has 31 days so I have a free one anyway).

I'm in!
Hi everyone. I want to live before I die! I have ME/CFS, depression, anxiety and I'm obese. I went raw for 4 weeks a year or so ago. Can't say I saw much improvement in the first 3 conditions but the weight dropped off me. If I'd kept it up, who knows where I'd be now? But it was hard to do on my own, especially with a cooked-food, meat-eating husband. But "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again" so here I am, trying again.

It is my hope that we can all share recipes, tips, and ideas so that we can all succeed. I know each of us has a different journey, but some of the trials and tribulations will be similar. We all have different things going on in our lives and must adapt accordingly - for me it's lack of time to do a lot of preparation of the fancier things, the arctic weather that is upon us, and the fact that I'm away from home for 12-16 hours a day. I think sharing ideas might be beneficial for all of us. :)

I agree Allergy...what name would you like to go by? I see you're part of the fasting group. :) I'd love to share! Wow, you do have some challenges, especially being gone that long from home. Having this forum to check in and talk to each other is very helpful. It's getting cold here in Maryland as well, but probably not like where you are just yet. I haven't figured out if it's easier to be raw during the warm months or the cold months because I've been all over the map with it over the past few yrs. I'm working on balance and consistency within myself so reflections everywhere!

You can call me Suzanne - I'd change my name on here, if I could, but I can't, so... I was 100% raw this summer, from early June until the end of September. Since then I can't seem to be 100% raw for even one day, partly because of my schedule, and partly because of this cold, cold weather. I feel horrid, and I need to find a way to make raw work even with my crazy life.

Well I just braved this massive winter storm to make a run to the grocery store to stock up - the snow is forecast nonstop for the next 10 days, and we already have a couple feet. Got my car stuck in my parking lot when I tried to get back, so spent an hour digging it out. I think I need a green smoothie and some hot tea. The good news is that I have enough fresh stuff for at least a few days. After that I'll have to figure something else out.

Suzanne, wow, kudos to you! Let us know how it goes really. Oh yeah, a nice big green smoothie and TEA, YUM! I really pray we don't get snow like we got last year here in Maryland...it was a real challenge though I got paid free leave in 32 hrs! Nuts! What kind of tea do you like? Do you just make it regularly? I do, I don't get caught up in it not being raw and such. I figure it doesn't really matter.

I don't worry about tea not being raw either - I have a bunch of different kinds, but all are herbal/decaf. I have peppermint, chamomile, and cinnamon here at home right now, and in my office I think are chai, peppermint, and something red - some sort of berry thing or something. I'm trying to convince myself to like green tea, but I'm not that crazy about it.
Haven't made tea yet, but working on my smoothie.

This is what I NEED!!! I have been ALLLLLLL DEGREES OF RAW FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS....and still....I STILL want to be 100% raw...to MAKE IT 100% RAW for a LOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG LENGTH of time!!! I will share everything I make....every tip I have for you newbies....IF YOU ALL WILL PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE share what you are eating. I get bored. This is my MAJOR problem with staying RAW, I get bored and turn back to cook foods.
I HOPE EVERYONE WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO SAY: "I ate this today, I made it this way....and it was GREAT, or I made it and it might have been better this way, but...."IF WE ALL SHARE, THIS JOURNEY WILL BE OUTSTANDING!!!:D

I plan on doing this. Hopefully I'll get some ideas too. The journey is a together journey! So you tea drinkers--I, too like to drink tea--do you use tea in a bag or loose leaf????
Sounds good to me Wendi! Will do! I too get bored then will go through this entire process that takes me back to cooked. What are the rules anyway during the month long challenge in postings...what not to talk about vice versa as far as falling off, etc...?
The teas sound good Suzanne. I love herbal teas and don't really drink green teas unless it's summer time as an iced tea type drink, which has been a long time. When I make some I'll be sure and share what they are. :)

I also love tea...I love the bagged Chai teas during the winter, with all the warming spices.....mmmmmmmmmm
I will do my best to be as supportive as I can to everyone here, Scouts honor (holding up fingers)

In Alissa's book, she also mentions to "un-cook"several dishes on certain days of the week. It would be helpful to me, for you to list what you might be "un-cooking" (if you do this in batches) to let me know, "OK, Wendi, you need to be preparing dishes for the next 3 days like others are doing"...and,this recipe will last 3-4 days in the fridge, it tastes BETTER after the next day, etc.
Does this make sense to anyone????? am I being neurotic????? LOL....I am just trying to think of ideas that will help ME, and maybe someone else.
For example, my day 1 post might read:
Today I ate:
3 apples
GS w/ spinach, bananas, mango, celery, hemp seeds
Dinner was a large vegetable salad which had: MOCK TUNA, carrots, romaine, tomatoes, THE MOCK TUNA WAS OUTSTANDING!!
Today I also made:
MOCK TUNA, which will last a few days, from LOLF
creamy onion dip from LOLF
hummus from RAWvolution
paul's pate from LOLF p. 427
I also made my own recipe of _____________ it is really good, here is the recipe:
Would that be ok, for those of us would spend the time (like I have LOTS of that) doing it for others???? Could we consider it A GIFT to those here. I would be willing to sacrifice some time, for you. I will, if noone else does, I realize it might be too much to ask.
Peace to you all.....

OK, now a question:
Can we post if we make a recipe from another BOOK??? I know there was a rule on the board about posting about other ?????? I don't know ???? was it recipe books, other web-sites????? or am I imagining it?????
Thanks, I don't want to get into trouble.
Yes, it makes perfect sense to me, but I only have Alissa's first book. I plan to get the newest one, but it won't be for a little while yet. I'd message Aleesha about that Wendi because yeah I know there are rules. She's usually on here everyday. I posted a link to some other raw foodist that had given away a FREE raw ebook with other raw foodists recipes in it and it was deleted, so I'm not sure either. If I come across any goodies I'll just private message folks. I don't mind putting the time in because it helps me and I love the support. :)

I drink bagged tea, not loose leaf teas - I've never even had loose tea, I don't think.
I know people share recipes from other sources, but it's been a while since I've read the rules, so I'm not sure of the ins and outs of that.
I'll be happy to share what I make, although with my limitations on time, I may not make much. The most helpful thing to me, will be to hear about things that will keep at least a few days in the fridge. I've made a few things that I like, but have found that they don't tend to keep very long.

I drink bagged and loose. I love 'em all!
Due to time I tend to always go with the same raw dishes, but somethings gotta change this time around to keep it interesting. I usually always do lettuce salads, leafy green salads, nut milk smoothies, green smoothies...more like some type of green salad with raw toppings such as beets, carrots, sugar/snow peas/mushrooms w/ a very yummy dressing.
In the evenings if I'm home I ALWAYS have to have a nut milk smoothie with either carob, mint and bananas or some type of fruit smoothie. I'm so predictable. :) Then I get out the raw uncook books and plan recipes usually that I'll start creating on Sat or Sunday to last until at least Wednesday that week....then on Thurs and Fri I wing it. It works well for me until I get bored!

Zuri: I only have LOLF too! Money is really tight around here. Maybe we should list the foods we eat, but then just list recipes pages from Alissa's book if we make somthing from it or if we use a recipe from this board we can tell where we got it from. Everyone can just assume we use another recipe if it's not listed as a recipe with a page number. ????? This would really help me if at least some of us would do this!!!
I know I've been busy on this thread today because my household is kinda recuperating from Thanksgiving/black Friday shopping!!
I can't wait to get started on the next month!!! I am going to start planning my first week of menus.
Peace.
Yes that works Wendi. Below is what I found on posting links and such.
Here's the link itself on this forum:
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33779
Here's the rule that I think we're all referring to get clarity, which I took from the link above:
2. No creating threads that promote links to other websites, blogs, etc. If someone asks a question such as, “What other raw food books do you own?” you may refer them to other book titles but please do not create a whole thread promoting or inquiring about particular websites. Now, this will not always be black and white. Sometimes links may be acceptable and other times may not, it just depends on the nature of the link.
If in doubt, just send an email to help@rawfoodtalk.com (preferably before posting the link) and one of our moderators or administrators will let you know if it is or is not acceptable. Please bear in mind that there are plenty of discussion boards where NO cross-linking is allowed at all. Again, we may allow some things at our discretion.

I know the challenge hasn't started yet but I'm getting into practice and love what I ate today!!
I had this morning for breakfast : just apples
Lunch: Banana/carob smoothie and apple cobbler. (got the recipe off this site somewhere--they called it Yummy apple cobbler) IT is yummy and tastes better the day after and after. It lasts about 4 days. (of course, by then I had eaten it up)
Dinner: I made Alissia's Mediterranean-style Pressed Lasagna pg 352 in the new book.
IT took some time to make but oh so delicious!! Hmmm hmmmm She says it will last for 5 days in the refrig. I'm hoping so because I want to take it to a family get together on Monday. Very filling!
My only problem was making long thin strips of the zucchini--couldn't figure out how to do that with the mandoline.

Blizzard, I'd love to hear how you liked the lasagna, and how well it holds up to time in the fridge. I was looking through the new book last night (it finally came yesterday!) and that looked interesting. I actually have considered making the lasagna from LOLF, but haven't tried it yet - does anybody know how well it holds up and/or how good it is?
I've not yet ever tried to make nut milks. I tried to make almond butter twice and it was a disaster both times. I'm just going to have to buy some I guess. It annoyed me to waste so many almonds.
I also haven't tried to sprout anything yet, but I'd like to try - anybody have experience with it?
In the spring, I'm going to try to find both basil plants and mint plants and try to grow them in my kitchen (and outside when it warms up). I planted parsley and basil from seeds in July and enjoyed the parsley immensely, but the basil never got bigger than tiny sprouts. But since then I have read that it's very hard to start from seed (and takes a long time) and I think it just got cold too soon for it to get established. Oh well...
I just realized that all I've had to eat today is about a quart of green smoothie, and it's after 4 pm. I'm off to create a salad, I think. I hope my dressing is still good, because I didn't think to buy more zucchini at the store today...
Anybody have awesome tasting, simple dressing recipes?

Goodnightmoonyoga...the menu varies so much according to what you like and what you feel like eating. For me a day might go like this-
water w/lemon
Green smoothie w/fresh orange juice, blueberries, baby spinach, frozen banana and chia gel
2 apples
handful of walnuts
large salad w/mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, grated carrots, clementines, dried cranberries, glazed pecans & a vinaigrette dressing.
kale chips
banana ice cream
All depends on what you like and how hungry you are on any given day...there is so much flexibility to this way of eating...you can make it as simple or as complex as you like.

I'm in!
Hi everyone. I want to live before I die! .
That's pretty much it for me in a nutshell! I have a deep pain condition and being raw lessens it some or at least makes me more able to deal with it. Yup.....trying again too. I've seen the benefits first hand and need to feel them 100% again. It is a challenge w/cooked food family, same here. I'm glad you are here~

Thanks for the Yummy Apple Cobbler idea Blizzardfrisbee. Found it on t'net and am going to make it this afternoon in preparation for The Event. I've already made Lemon Cookies (in the dehydrator now) but my wheat for Alissa's Banana Bread (LOLF) seems to have stopped sprouting. I think my kitchen got too cold last night.
I need to be prepared for temptation!
- does anybody know how well it holds up and/or how good it is?
I've not yet ever tried to make nut milks.
I also haven't tried to sprout anything yet, but I'd like to try - anybody have experience with it?
...but the basil never got bigger than tiny sprouts. But since then I have read that it's very hard to start from seed (and takes a long time) and I think it just got cold too soon for it to get established. Oh well...
Anybody have awesome tasting, simple dressing recipes?
Does anyone have an example of what a day or week may look like on the 30 day challenge. I am talking about what the menu would look like
I'm in. I'm so ready for this and hope I can do it! I really want to juice fast in Jan., so this would be a good start!! Just need to be prepared and not stress eat!!
Wow, I'm so happy to see everybody posting for this December challenge! Cool! Bare with me as I try to get everybody's name down. Some of you have two names...your forum name then in your siggie you have your real name.
Anyway, allergy...I've never made lasagna. As far as nut milks they're much much much easier to make than nut butters. I haven't tried to make a nut butter, but I do know there's a science, so to speak, to it. Maybe someone else can speak to it?
I prefer Brazil nut milk over almond milk...tastes creamier and is just more pleasing to me. As far as sprouting....I'm not a big sprouter, but I will soak. I like soaking. When I have sprouted things such as quinoa and unhulled sesame seeds it went well. I used a sprout bag.
I also tried to grow basil and it didn't go well. So I understand not getting anything but tiny buds. Next spring I'll try again!
I tend to get my dressings from Alissa's book, some other raw foods book or online then I tweak them to my liking. I don't necessarily write anything down. Ani Phyo has this GREAT curry dressing recipe that is so good. Here that is:
1 red apple
1 T curry powder
1 c olive oil (I use something else because it solidifies in the 'fridge')
1 clove garlic
1 t ginger
1/2 t sea salt
It's so creamy and deeeelish!! Whip it up in the blender and there ya go!
goodnight, glimR is right on. It depends on what you like. I mentioned my menu in another post in this thread and what I'm usually drawn to eating.
greenfaery...let's do this! I'm so ready too for something new...something big..something far greater than I can imagine but it's something that is truly a part of me so why not stop fighting it? Hope that makes sense. :)
glimR...right on! What type of pain do you deal with? I deal with inflammation all over and in my joints. When I'm raw as well, it goes away in most places. It definitely affects the quality of my life. Does it yours?
maisielou1...I hope you didn't feel left out? I don't think it was anybody's intention to do that. Welcome, of course. We're all a part of this team of support and encouragement. :) What's ME by the way?
Anyway, today is my day one and I feel TIRED as all get out so I have to start it off with a series of enemas to get things moving. Let the detox begin! I'm not scared! :) ...just want to get it over with. :) I have a busy day ahead of uncooking, cleaning, gym for a little exercise and continued mental/spritual prep in general for this journey. I'll check in throughout the day. Blissful Sunday to you all!
I'm going to post here my daily eats and such until the December challenge days are posted since we're all starting together. That or I'll double post. It doesn't look like there's much action happening in the November challenge posting forum..man that was a mouth full. :)

AllergyGirl . . . I’ve only been sprouting for a couple of weeks. I was inspired by Matt Hodgson on YouTube - I Make Raw Sprouted Bread! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EplopUyQPdA I’d convinced myself that sprouting was too time-consuming but I was so wrong. I bought the sprouter he recommends and it is easy peasy. I’m hooked! Just ordered a book on sprouting - Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Cookbook.
Zuri . . . Thank you for your welcome. I didn’t really feel left out. Just a little shy! Everyone seems so confident with the raw food lifestyle and posting online. I have been going it entirely alone (and in opposition at times) and this is the first time I have ever posted on a forum but my confidence is growing by the minute! (What’s a “siggie”?!) ME stands for Myalgic Encephalopathy but it is usually called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). There are a number of symptoms but the worst (for me anyway) are brainfog, exhaustion and pain.

Blizzardfrisbee: So great that you are already posting what you have eaten. I have never made a lasagna, but I can tell you that I have made thin, long noodles just using my veggie peeler. Just peel the skin and then keep peeling long strips to use, this works great for me.
AllergyGirl: I have made nutmilk before and it is REALLY easy!! In my opinion, you need a nutmilk bag (either nylon or muslin, but one made for making numilk). Using your blender, blend about 1 cup of nuts per 4 cups of water and then some sweetner (either dates or agave or whatever you like) then blend away. When you have blended well, put the nutmilk bag over a large bowl and pour the blender contents into the bag. Squeeze this a strain it through the bag. There is a VERY good video on youtube showing Jennifer Cornbleet doing this. I love watching her videos!!! I also sprout SOME. I like to soak and then rinse and drain well and then put a clean cotton piece of fabric (like old t-shirt that has been chloroxed, or cheesecloth or anything that will let air in, some people even buy mesh screen and cut to the size of their mason jar and screw the lid on over top) I just rinse a few times a day and let the jar rest at a 45 degree in a colander or bowl so the water drains out during the day. I find this easy to do and my sprouts don't dry out too much. The seeds I have used this method with are mung bean and alfalfa....any would work.
goodnightmoonyoga: It is really hard to say what a month would be like. I know when I first went raw, I HATED watermelon and by the middle of my second month raw, I was craving it!!!! YOUR tastes will change during the month, and you will be different from the rest of us. Try lots of new stuff!!! Buy a piece of different fruit or a different veggie every week and give it a try. I like to walk through the produce department and SEE WHAT LOOKS GOOD, usually this is what my body is wanting over the next few days!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
maisylou1: WELCOME TO THE CHALLENGE!! I would never want to leave anyone out. I always try to comment to everyone, just so everyone feels like they are a part of this challenge!! I know for ME, it is important that I feel connected!!!
Peace to you all....I hope this excitement continues through the whole month!!!:D

Ok, I reeeeally like that sprouting thingy he uses. I may have to buy that. It seems more convenient than a sprout bag. I'd always be thinking about how and where to hang the sprout bag up so it could drip as the stuff sprouts.
"Siggie" is signature. :) *laughing... People still use terms and acronyms on here I don't know about so you're not alone. Oh ok, I've heard of CFS but not the scientific name of it. So, does eating raw help?
Wendi, I have a good feeling about this December challenge. I'm absolutely impressed at how responsive everybody is with each other. To me that's crucial to being a part of this challenge forum. It's cool to come in and post what your eats are, but for me I like to exchange and go a bit deeper with folks. In the past I've just gone with the energy of the challenge board and got what I needed elsewhere. :) This is a cool change.
Speaking of brain fog, that's how I feel right now. Just put some raw bread in the dehydrator. Maybe I'll try making another raw bread..I always make the same one that I love love love! Here's that link:
http://therawchef.com/therawchefblog/the-best-thing-since-sliced-bread
I love it because it uses no nuts and the flavor is fantastic. It made me really appreciate marjoram. The herbs and fruit just make it divine. Usually people that aren't even raw love it too. Mine usually turns out more like a cracker though. Goes great with guac. :) I used Brazil nut flour and skipped the tomatoes (not sure if they cause inflammation being a nightshade food). He has some other variation of this bread you can find online too, but I haven't tried that one. Here's another link:

Zuri, do you have trouble with your dehydrated breads getting soggy when you store them? I had been making a lot of the onion bread over the summer, but it would get so soggy, even though it was hard like a cracker when I took it out of the dehydrator. It made me discouraged, and I finally quit making it. I haven't tried most of the others, although I did try one by Igor B, and it held up a little better, but it was a lot more time consuming to make and I just haven't had time.
There's so much I want to make - I'd love to make Alissa's calzones to have in the freezer for quick lunches/snacks, and and and... *sigh*
I just went for a long walk in the snow - there's so much of it, it's going to take months to melt it all... LOL It's cold out, but it was a nice study break. They're finally starting to clear the walkways on campus - since most everybody has been gone since Wednesday, they hadn't done any clearing since then, and with all of the recent snow, it's been hard to get around, but it looks like they'll have it pretty well cleared for tomorrow.
So far today I have had a big smoothie - red chard, apple, bananas, a little bit of hemp seeds, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, the juice of 1/2 lemon, and some water. It was pretty tasty. I never did eat much yesterday, but I think it might've been because I ate so much SAD junk this week, my body probably had to sort of step back and just deal with it all. I did stay raw, and I'm ready for this thing to begin - hurry up December! I feel more hungry today, but I also feel kind of female-crampy sort of, so I'm taking it easy and not going to try to force too much in. Trying to drink lots of water though, and that will probably help.
I don't know why I feel so chatty all of a sudden...I hope you're all having a great day. :)

I sprout--but nothing fancy! I use a jar with a mesh lid and in Alissa's DVD she said she just uses bowls. I'm getting better at it--the first times I wasn't sprouting long enough. They would taste terrible in a recipe. Got it now.
Don't have a nut milk bag but must be time to get one. I've not made nut milk. Also want to make almond butter- but haven't done that. I bought raw almond butter but it is costly.
My lasagna held up fine today. It looks good and still tasted just as good--if not better than yesterday. We'll see if it holds up tomorrow. According to Alissa it should last 5 days. It just has to last until tomorrow's family gathering.
Thanks for the bread recipe. I've not had luck with bread-- have made Alissa's morning muffins and they are really good. Made onion bread-didn't have any trouble with it being soggy but my other breads have been.
Wanna do some fresh herbs growing--thought I'd wait until the spring and plant outside. Maybe it is time to think about planting inside. Some of do that???
Today has been a banana/carob/raisin smoothie.
Lunch-- lasagna and dinner will be a green smoothie.
I'm looking forward to this December challenge. The November one wasn't as exciting as this one already has become.

What sprouts do y'all grow, and what uses do you have for them?
I'm going to do herbs inside as soon as I can find plants (working from seeds didn't do too well last summer - too short of a growing season outside). I want to do basil and mint at the very least, and probably parsley again (it grew find from seeds).

I've sprouted wheat berries--for some breads/muffins in Alissa's first book. Right now I'm sprouting barley for spanish rice---never done this before--this is in Alissa's first book. I sprouted rye berries for some breads but couldn't get them to come out. Tasted awful.
Sprouted lentils--don't remember why though--something in Alissa's first book . i'll have to check it out. See what I made.
Just use them for recipes in Alissa's book. I sprout alfalfa seeds--to use in salads. They always come out good.

Allergy...I think what I call bread is really a cracker. I've never made "bread". The reason being, it takes too long to dehydrate so I've not experienced the sogginess you mentioned. How thick are these breads anyway? People rave about the onion bread on this forum. If a recipe says dehydrate for too many hours I just don't make that recipe. Maybe I'll try something like that when I get my new dehydrator...I don't know. :) Chat away! I've only sprouted quinoa and sesame seeds. I don't really care for sprouts such as the ones you put in a salad (broccoli, sunflower seed, etc)...I've tried and tried and tried to like them but......:-/
Blizzard, I haven't quite figured out how to grow herbs and other plants with two felines being around and I haven't taken the time. I did grow herbs though this past spring to be put in an outdoor garden. My kitties did well with that and left them alone. I'd love to though...grow herbs inside! It's amazing seeing your plants grow from seed!
Hi Green! YAY!
Hi ladies! Nice to "meet" you all. I am really excited (slash kind of scared!) for the December challenge! I was raw for almost a whole year about 2.5 years ago and it was THE BEST feeling. I have no idea why I stopped. I usually eat high to very high raw but 100% is different. I have had a lot of challenges in my life and I really feel like I could use the mental clarity and insight that eating totally raw seems to bring me. I have also gained a few pounds that I'm sure will fall off eating 100%. I have been wanting to do this for so long, but something has been holding me back. Almost like I'm afraid to succeed or to do something good for myself. Last night I realized what I was doing, and I am so ready to make this a priority! So here I am! I have been eating about 90% raw for the past few weeks and will go 100% from now on!!!
OMY! I just made the best dressing:
1/2 c sesame oil
1/2 c water
1 gala apple (skin and all)
flat parsley to taste
a lot of dill
black salt (use whatever salt you use)
1/2 t lemon juice (guesstimate)
I wish I measured precisely but I don't. If you make it I'd suggest making it to taste. It tastes so good with the dill and I love seeing the red bits of apple skin. Then I blended it in the Vitamix until smooth; probably was 10-12 seconds. I think I'll add more dill! I LOVE dill, can't you tell? YUMMO! :)

Okay, the raw kitchen is open again! I just made up a batch of my "ranch" dressing for the week, and two batches of corn chowder. I split the chowder up into jars with about 1 serving in each, and I'll either take them to school for lunches, or use as a quick dinner if I get home late or whatever.
Here's the chowder recipe if anybody is interested - I started with the "cheezy corn chowder" recipe that's posted on this forum somewhere, and each time I've made it I've modified it a little bit. I think I'm finally happy with my tweakings, so I finally decided to write it down. :P
Corn Chowder
2 cups frozen corn kernels
1 heaping Tablespoon minced garlic
1/4 sweet onion (not red/purple)
1/2 cup cashews
2 Tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 carrot, peeled
3-4 mini red/orange bell peppers (or 1 small red pepper, or 1/2 large)
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 Tablespoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
1 1/4 cups water (add a little more if needed to blend; when warming/serving, add more if it's too thick)
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add 2 cups frozen corn kernels and 1 Tablespoon parsley, warm gently and enjoy.
I like to top it with diced avocado and tomato.
Wow Suzanne! :) Looks really good.

Ha Zuri--- I forgot about my kitties--I have 2 and yes, they would like to eat herbs if I grew them inside. :)
They don't like bananas and mint though! They run from bananas, but I've given them smoothies with banana mixed in. They're quite interesting those kitties. :)
Today I had:
2 bananas
a mint, carob, Brazil nut milk, banana smoothie
salad of gr/red romaine, purple cabbage, gr on, gr olives w/dill dressing
about 1 qt distilled water
I'm a work in progress! Not bad for day 1! Talk to you all tomorrow.

Yes Zuri, the chowder is delicious - I need it to be warmed a little though. Not to hot, but enough to take the chill off. I can't eat my soups ice cold, so I warm them a bit either on the stove on low and stir often, or put them in a jar with a tight lid, and put them in a bowl of hot water, then shake it periodically.
I also made a batch of RP raw brownies, and put a dab of peppermint extract in - holy cow it's yummy! I think I'm set for this week - hopefully I can stick with it better by having stuff prepared ahead of time. If I would've thought about it earlier, I would've made some pizza crusts, but maybe next weekend...

Looks like there is a good group doing this for December.
I've been abaout 50% raw for a long time. Have had periods at 100% and feel great but then...
I've been 100% the past 2 days.
Today I had watermelon, salad, walnuts and butternut squash pasta.

Got enough basics to get me started.
I really need to get this right this time not sure that I'll want to start another new year off knowing that in the past five years I've not ever benefitted from 30days of absolute RAW.
I'll make RP Brownies in advance to stave off PMS cravings
I'll enjoy nutritional yeast and Shoya as my two permissable non raw items
I will find a way to make a spicy hot and salty RAW soup to warm me when I fill a chill or just drink hot lemon water.
I'll reward myself this month with Alissa's lastest book, already ahve the first plus DVD's
I will manifest a stainless steel dehydrator to replace Zeus my shabby excalibur
I will committ to loggin in at least once a day to support and encourage someone else on the journey cause that's what cyber frineds are for

Take it easy on yourself and you can do it especially with those green smoothies to support ya I'd think.

lifeAgift: I started raw the month I joined this web-site: July 2005!!! I didn't realize until this week that it has been OVER 5 years!!! I have been on and off and to varying degrees of raw the whole time.....I want to be 100%, I want to take it one month at a time....my goal might not be to STAY 100% but at least 85-90% EVERYDAY!!!! I am with you on this. I feel like a "old rawbie" and it's discouraging to admit that I'm not where I want to be!!!
I am looking forward to December....but I am starting my challenge today. I am not sure what the whole day will hold, but this morning will be GREEN JUICE: spinach, apple, celery, cucumber....yummmmmm!Later I will have some fruit and then lunch will be a GS!! I will be back to post later!!!!
EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT DAY! I am really excited and can't believe that there has been so much response here in the "pre-December" message thread!:D I guess MY GIFT to myself for Christmas will be a healthier ME!!

Good morning, Wendi, and whoever else is up. :)
I'm going to make a big green smoothie to take with me, and to dice up a tomato and an avocado to take to top my lunch soup (corn chowder that I made last night) with. Then I'll pack a couple of snacks as well, just in case, and I should be set. Today is a long day for me - I don't get out of class until 4:30 this afternoon, and I always struggle on these days, with not having enough raw food and then pigging out on crap when I get home. So I'm going to be prepared today (probably overly so, but better too much than not enough!).
Happy Monday, rawbies. :)
I also made a batch of RP raw brownies, and put a dab of peppermint extract in - holy cow it's yummy!
Suzanne, yeah I LOVE RP's brownies, but lately I don't know if it's the carob powder I switched to or what but they dont' taste as good as before. I love the idea of using papperint extract in it too! *Mental note for later when I try to make them again.

life...I allow myself tamari and Lara bars..and I know some of the "raw" nuts I eat aren't completely raw...I just can't seem to let Tamari go! Call it addictive, I don't care, but I figure I'm fine at this level and I don't feel bad after eating it. I love salty. As long as I'm not sitting down to a bowl of tofu I'm good. What's RW soup? I want Alissa's new book too, but won't be buying it for a little while. Awww, Zeus gotta go eh? My old L'Equip has to go too. I think the temperature is waaaay off. I put a 9 tray Exc w/timer on layaway and owe about $130 some more. I can't wait! Christmas is putting a few things on hold though right now. It's good to have you on here!

Don't feel discouraged Wendi. We keep at it though and never give up. Let's give ourselves some credit and a few pats on the back. I'd like to take it further as well, seeing how long I can do this....it's the bordom though which is probably something far deeper I have to tap into. Suzanne, sending some supportive energy your way that your long day doesn't seem as long and that you are extremely satisfied with your raw eats! :) Let us know how it goes.
Well, I woke up today later than I'd planned. I guess my body needed the sleep. I have some pretty good eats today and now am sipping on a green smoothie of bananas (yeah I'm that banana girl, lol), pineapple, collards and baby bok choy. I'll list my other eats later today, but I forgot to drink 1 qt of water this morning.....tomorrow then. It's a great day! I'm claiming it! Have a fantastic day all, I'll be on and off here throughout the day.

yeah I'm that banana girl, lol
I have 6 bunches of bananas on my kitchen counter right now, and more in the freezer. I LOVE bananas in my smoothie - there are only 3 in today's, and I think it could've used another one. :D

I"m finding I love bananas in my smoothies too. I have been enjoying bananas and carob powder together. HMMM !! Good! I like green smoothies with banana in them too. Now I just have to work on different combos of smoothies--green and otherwise.
So far today--- apples and more apples--plus some granola.
Later on today we are going to a family Thanksgiving get together. I have my food all ready-- the rest of the lasagna and cut up celery, tomatoes, green pepper and avacodo with some herb oil dressing(left over from the lasagna) I should have plenty of food to keep me from wanting any of the cooked stuff.
Out of bananas--total bummer! Aww well! Gotta get to the store. Plus need stuff for green smoothies.
Have a great day all!!!
Too cute ladies, too cute! I put 3 bananas in my gr smoothie this morning, lol. Kathy have fun at the Thanksgiving gathering. You ladies are so prepared. :)

I'm totally gonna participate in this months challenge. Today is my first day committed to eating 100% raw. I think it's great that I'll be able to join this months challenge and feel that I'm not alone in this. I'm not really sure how this challenge consist of thou. Any brief explanation or link where I could know more about it?
Thanks guys,
CR!S
Heya Cris! Try this link below. The moderators post it before they post every day of the month on the board. I hope it's what you're looking for.

You basically come on here and tell how you're feeling, what you ate, how your day went, exchange ideas and recipes...give encouragement and get encouragement. It's a place to know you're not alone like you said and to be among like minded folks that know what you're going through, especially if you're around folks (we all are) that don't understand or embrace this lifestyle. Some post more or less than others. It depends how you feel. Some are voyeurs and that's ok too. Anyone else have anything to add? I enjoy it because I can "check" in so to speak while holding myself accountable at the same time.

Hey all! I've been extremely cold today...can't seem to get warm. I've drank warm tea....no go. I think tonight I'm gonna make my nut pate (I have sunflower seeds and walnuts soaking) I will add sundried tomatoes, herbs, etc. and then make a romaine wrap and add cucumber, and some hot pepper flakes and any other veggies I can scrounge up.
Today I've had:
Green juice
GS w/ bananas, spinach, cherries, blueberries, a tiny bit of ginger.
Dinner: romaine wrap YUMMMMM!! Can't wait!!

Does anybody have a favorite raw cracker recipe they would share (or if it's one of Alissa's, which book and which one)? I tried one of hers this summer, and I just wasn't crazy about them. I'd like to try something else, but not sure which to try.

Green juice
That's how I felt last night after having a really cold smoothie. It was so painful. I went to bed with 3 covers and the space heater on, then I got really hot, lol. I'd rather be that cold than be in a SAD state of mind! :D

Yeah same here. I made her crackers once or twice and that's it. That recipe I posted yesterday with the two variations turns out to be great as crackers. It says bread but to me seems more like a cracker, and I love them with some guac. There's this other recipe for sesame crackers that I just adore, but I'll have to post it when I get home. I got these raw ginger snap cookie type thingies from Whole Foods and they seem so smiple to uncook....I just haven't taken the time. All that's in it are coconut, sprouted ses seeds, dates and ginger. WOWSERS! YUM!
Hey girl! I remember you from another challenge some time ago. I don't remember when. Welcome! :) Are you still running and in NYC? Don't be scared; you can do it!
Hi Zuri! I remember you, too! I participated in a few challenges in the past 3 years- wish I had kept going with it! I'm still running, but not in NYC anymore. I'm in Vermont for the next year....brrr! Raw in a freezing climate will be my ultimate challenge. Thanks for the welcome! I hope all is well with you!
It felt so good to eat raw all day today! It definitely gave me an extra pep in my step at work :) Today was:
-2 bananas w/ raw almond butter
-green smoothie w/ 2 bananas, frozen strawberries & cherries, spinach & water- my coworkers were all very interested but no one would try it! Maybe next time! Plus an apple and a Raw Revolution Chocolate Coconut bar. These are like the ultimate raw indulgence if you live in a place w/o raw restaurants!
-a lot of baby carrots
-I'm about to make a big salad w/ romaine, red pepper, tomato, half an avocado, apple cider vinegar & EVOO, and I may have more fruit later or some "Cacao Bliss" which is the Artisana coconut/cacao butter- so good!
Today was 8 hours of physical labor, as usual- I work at an animal shelter here in VT so I am always cleaning kennels, taking dogs for walks, running around like a crazy person, etc. :) I've had problems in the past where I planned to eat all raw, but didn't bring enough food to work, so I just need to make sure I have lots of food at hand during the day! Today's lunch worked perfectly to get me through the afternoon.

Yes I'm good, can't complain. WOW, Vermont. I've never been there. I do have a few people at my day job that'll try my green smoothies, which is great. A few even ask, if you can believe that. I keep little Dixie cups for those occasions and they seem to be surprised at how tasty or lacking in yuckiness the smoothies are.
You know, I don't know what it's like to live in a state that does have raw restaurants and other take out or eat in options. Man, so I hear you about that bar being the ultimate indulgence. Lara bars are mine and somethings telling me I'm missing something, lol. It suffices though when you don't know what you're missing so I guess it's cool.

Green, that juice sounds really good. I'm about ready to go make a second run to the market myself to pick up some essentials. Gotta keep the taste bud momentum going!
Breakfast: green smoothie w/pineapple, bananas, collards, baby spinach and baby bok choy
Lunch: nice big salad w/gr and red romaine, purple cabbage, gr on, gr olives w/ that yummy dill dressing I made
Snacks: raw ginger snaps and a Lara bar
Dinner: hm, I guess nothing except a bit of pineapple as I cut it up ...I really would love a smoothie but don't wanna be running to the bathroom during the night
All in all a great day! I even went to the sauna today. I couldn't really exercise as I was too sore from yesterdays work out. Otherwise, I feel pretty good for it being day 2. :) Off to get some beauty rest.

Headed to whole foods tommorow will enjoy a few vegan unmentionable from the hot bar and then stock up on a few more RAW goodies
think i'll also place an order with Alissa and rawfromthefarm in the days to come
what I really need is a new food processor. Went shopping for one the other day with a super discount coupon that I manifested and then didn't get it, got side tracked or something
Started the day with a banana, orange and pineapple smoothie...my colon appreciated the love.
will start tommorow the same and do a little REIKI and meditation to get aligned for the 1st

glimR...right on! What type of pain do you deal with? I deal with inflammation all over and in my joints. When I'm raw as well, it goes away in most places. It definitely affects the quality of my life. Does it yours?
Hi Zuri~
I have several serious back issues, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis and a disc herniation stemming from an injury. I always have pain but there are times it flares up more and when it does it feels like all my joints hurt to the touch. I have nerve impingement down my left leg that makes walking for more than a few minutes almost impossible. I have to sit down for 40 seconds or so to free up the nerve. It does affect all areas of my life. Before I fell I walked 25 miles a week, worked out 3Xweek. Since then I have gained about 80 lbs due to total inactivity.
Ok....blah, blah, blah...:D
What have I done recently...??
Started going for Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic care and am seeing some results. I am riding my recumbent exercise bike 2X a day and am going to start walking again...bought a walkstool and will use it when I need to.
Yesterday I made kale chips and glazed nuts. Today I am making avo/cacao pudding, Alissa's Avocado Chutney (amazing) and cranberry almond slaw, soaking buckwheat & flax for crackers & granola and almonds for almond milk.
Food today-(plan anyway)
green smoothie w/orange juice, baby spinach, blueberries, frozen mango, papaya & strawberries, and chia gel
tossed salad w/mixed greens, clementines, cucumber, cranberries & glazed nuts w/raw vinaigrette
Avocado Chutney in romaine lettuce leaves
snacks-
avo pudding
kale chips
honeycrisp apple
orange/pomegranate juice over ice if I get really motivated
GlimR
Hey, I'm so sorry to hear that you deal with so much pain. Have you ever received Reiki or some other form of energy therapy? That's great that what you're doing now is really giving results. That may even be something I'd go to a medium about. Have you connected the emotional component w/in yourself with the pain? It's a lot to handle but I'm sure you have much strength.
What does chia gel taste like? I gotta be honest and say I haven't had the courage to try chia gel or chia at all but I'm open! How do you make your glazed nuts and what nuts do you use? That sounds really good. I have a friend that makes the regular ones that really are good to me if not just a tad too sweet, but I love that crunch and sweet factor....would love to replace it with a healthier, raw version.

Zuri~
I haven't never done anything with the emotional aspects. I don't know anyone who practices Reiki here but maybe should look into that.
Glazed Nuts
I soak walnuts & pecans for about 4 hours, rinse well and drain
a few T. sweetner, I use maple syrup, toss well to coat
sprinkle on some or all of the following-
coconut sugar, cinnamon, sea salt, mesquite powder
anything you like really
dehydrate on teflex sheet 4 hours or so,
flip and remove teflex
dry till crisp
The chia gel is so easy and fairly tastless.
I use 1/3 cup seeds to two cups water
stir well
restir twice more at 10 min. intervals
store in fridge
I add a couple T. to my smoothies, both green and cacao

I feel so spoiled today. I wasn't really in the mood for a green smoothie - I wanted something more decadent. I had some cherries in the freezer, so dumped them together with some bananas, cocoa powder, coconut oil, hemp seeds, and water, and made the most amazing chocolate/cherry/banana shake thing. It might be nice with some ice to make it thicker, but it's too cold, so this is amazing. YUM. And and and... it's all GOOD for me! :o

I just saw the raw challenge and I am up for it! It has been 10 years since I was raw. I am 5'2" and weighed about 105. Drank Energy Soup and wheat grass everyday for a year.
Sadly, that was my prime. I am now 40 and weigh 145 (boo). I want to feel fabulous for my brothers wedding January 9th. I am going raw for December. Before photo will be taken tonight!

Hey you all!! Thanksgiving feast raw was fine and dandy. I had all my food--
Lasagna and some cut up veggies with dill dressing. It worked out fine. Next time wanna bring some chips and salsa or gua. There are always snacks around and that was hard. I brought raisins with carob--that was good. Was going to make brownies but didnt' have the nuts I needed.
Today--
Breakfast-- Apples
Lunch- Huge salad-- lettuce, celery, carrots, sprouts-- with herb dressing
Dinner-- the very last of the lasagna
It has lasted and tasted good yeserday too.
As I read what you all put in your green smoothies--I really gotta start changing things up with that.
Allergygirl--that banana/cherry shake sounds sooooooooooooooooooo good. Thanks GlimR for the glazed nut recipe. Gonna try it.
I'm already thinking ahead to the Christmas snack time when we get together.
All of my family does not eat raw. Do some of you others go to these celebrations with the cooked family and bring your own stuff. I'm thinking of making a delicious salad and some snack type of food and maybe some brownies for Christmas time.

Hi all! I just wanted to check in really quick. I made a nut pate today to have it ready for tomorrow, but ate some today too....
It was pretty simple to make:
1 cup each of walnuts and sunflower seeds (soaked for about 8 hours)
3-4 sundried tomatoes
run that through the VM with some water....this made it creamy, so I don't know if everyone would like it that way, you could put it in the FP if you want it chunkier, but my FP is broke:()
then I added all dried herbs:
parsley
basil
garlic
sea salt
pepper
stir all of this together with the nut mixture in a big bowl....pretty good, but I think it will be better tomorrow when the flavor has mingled more.
Peace to you all and looking forward to tomorrow....the first official day of the challenge!!!:D
Hey Kathy! I'm so glad your gathering went well, that's great. I've been around family during the holidays, and I just bring my own raw stuff and eat beforehand so I'm doubly not tempted. Lucky for me though, I usually always go to my mother's for the holidays and other family members come and my mother is used to me not eating "regular" food even if it's cooked.
My thing always was in the past, ok do I make dishes for others to hopefully try or just make some for myself? It depends how open minded people are and I know my family wouldn't be interested so I didn't. I opted to stay in the background without the spotlight being on me having to explain the dishes I made. Everybody would end up in a coma anyway so it really didn't matter. *laughing
Yup, can't wait Wendi and I hope you get another FP soooon...maybe for Christmas if you celebrate it?? :)

Boy, this is really a great group of people!
I am so wanting to join this challenge since I love a challenge, but this is really going to be a difficult month to start with all the "goodies" around! Plus, if you look up the word "carnivore" in the dictionary I swear you will see the names of my husband and two boys listed! They are VERY supportive of me doing this, but are die-hard SAD eaters, sad to say! I will give them whatever of mine they want to try though!
I have been raw before and know of the abundance of rewards it can bring. I have gained alot from being SAD over the last 2 years - I have gained about 70 pounds, now have plantar fascitis which is so painful in my feet that I cannot tolerate exercise anymore which only makes me even more obese, I have ovarian cysts and alot of pain, I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and heart trouble, fibromyalgia, and sleep apnea, and obesity. I have gained alot it is true - ALL BAD and in my opinion, alot of it is food choice related. My new motto is "nothing ever good comes from eating SAD!"
But I am excited to start this journey with all of you wonderful people! Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Menu Plan:
Green Smoothie
Raw soup (coconut milk, greens, tomato, garlic, ginger, miso, herbs)
Large salad with lemon and olive oil
Not sure about dinner yet- something with salad and veges - a creamy dressing sounds good!
Have a great night everyone! :)
PS - good to see a couple of you "old timers" like me joining again!;)
Hey Adriana! :) Tomorrow is December 1st, as if you all don't already know. I had to say it. I'm so excited. Had a great day today though I may have to wing it tomorrow with eats. I have leftover salad and some other things...I'll be fine. Eats today are similar to yesterday:
1 qt/12 oz distilled water
leftover green smoothie from yesterday...tastes just as good :)
large salad w/gr & red romaine, gr on, gr olives and curry dressing (YUM, what a kick and so warming)
1/2 an avocado
raw ginger snap crackers
Lara bar
carob, Brazil nut milk, mint and banana smoothie (brrrr, turned up the heat but so worth it)
A great day indeed! I went to the gym too, which was fantastic. I swear, doing the series of enemas, sweating at the gym and running Reiki is making detox symptoms so much easier. I've felt it but definitely not as bad as it could be. Time for beauty rest. Can't wait to move to the other board tomorrow. Have a great evening or day wherever you are. :)
I see you now Raspberry! Hi. Well, eating raw, you can't go wrong right? Glad you're here. That soup sounds delish! I bet your family will be eating plenty of what you uncook. At least they're supportive right?

I so need the encouragement and accountability. Not worried about the holidays I just know my history. I'll log in daily, share some motivation and share the love.
What I'm looking forward to most is the great sleep, mental clarity and improved intuitieness RAW has consistently brought me. I also have a list of quality "to do" stuff for the extra energy spikes I often feel and have been overwhelmed with in the past.

I'm in! I've been raw on and off since 2006 and when I stay on the raw, I feel great! When I fall off, I'm bored with the same (raw) flavors, and I need to learn a lot more recipes. I'm not a kitchen wench! However, I have some great habits that I've stuck with. No coffee since Christmas 2005, and I ALWAYS start my day with a green smoothie!! I haven't been sick at all since 2004.
When not doing raw it's a constant conflict because you know how good it feels to be 100% raw. That conflict is a pain in the you-know-what! I don't know how long I can do it. The longest I was 100 % was four months. I would like to get off the see-saw and stay raw. I lost about 30 lbs and I was thin to begin with so it frightened me when I just kept losing weight. There is no support really, except for this forum.

Had a lot of tmeptations today at work. We had all day meetings and so had lunch and snacks provided. I did eat before I went into the meeting knowing this and so was not hungry but still tempted but I resisted.
Today I had green juice, watermelon, banana, walnuts, apple. For dinner I blended almonds with lemon and salt, mixed in some chopped basil and put that on tomatoes and drizzled with olive oil...really good.

Yes!
So I've read all previous posts to catch up.
Welcome everyone!! I am so blessed to be here with you.
Ive been 100/ raw beginning the last 10 days of October. I participated in the november challenge, and felt so very lonely. Some days I was the only one there. Quite a relief when blizzard & tguch joined me!! So I am very excited by the enthusiam in this thread. With this much support december wont be a challenge at all.
The last 40 days have gone well. I am healing from under active thyroid, horomone imbalance and last month was also diagnosed with a lot (!!) of food allergies. Hard to say if my thyroid is growing off my endo system, of allergies are effecting adreneals and throwing thyroid and endo off. ? My skin is in a constant state of breakout. This is the main reason I got into raw food. 40 days in my skin is worse, I believe i'm in a healing crisis. At this point my healing is deep, I trust in time my skin will reflect positive health. I feel great! So I know I'm doing good for myself. Be positive & be gentle.
This week I am releasing all high& moderate allergy foods. The high I have no problem with andreleased those I intuitivly over a year ago. Some of my moderates include; dates :( tomatoes, zucchini, cashews :( carrots, and a few others. I especially miss dates! After a week or so I'll add them in and see if there is any difference. There were no noticable allergic reactionsto these foods, except acne but that could be thyroid or hormones, so iam very
confused! My approach is simplicity.
A few responses to previous posts;
I do drink tea- I love yogi teas!! Sweet Thai delight is my favorite with a bit of almond milk, yummy!!
I have yet to successfully sprout. Someone mentioned kitchen temperature as a possible road block. I'll look into that!
I love the idea of recipe sharing and meal planning ideas! This boosts my inspiriation immensly!
I was laughing at the few banana love posts! Me too. 4 in my daily green smoothie!
Someone mentioned reiki, I am a reiki practioner and am currently learning and practicing electromagnetic field balancing. Amazing models for change! I am very curious about tapping or EFT, anyone have any experience with it?
I asked for Alissa's new book for Xmas, a vitamix, too (that might be stretching it a bit :) most likely I will buy the vitamix myself before the end of the month. We can celebrate!!
Light & Love to you all.
Here we go, day 1 December...

You're going to get better and do wonderful this month! :D It's going to be a great way to close out this year and bring in the new one. Hang in there that change WILL come to your skin. KNOW it!
BTW: I love Yogi teas TOO! A lot.. Seriously...

Mama, I too have a lot of food allergies, some life threatening. Since I've gone raw, I've been able to add a few of them back into my diet. I probably will never be brave enough to try the ones that have tried to kill me in the past, and some I will never know if I tolerate (like dairy), since I just don't eat that way anymore, but have faith and be patient - your body may heal itself and learn to tolerate some of them again. Corn was always a very severe allergy for me, but I'm able to tolerate it in raw form now, and have been eating corn chowder for lunch this week. :)
Hey there Mama, good to read your post and I’m happy to be embarking on the Dec challenge with you. OH YEAH, simplicity is good! I agree with Delise and Suzanne for you to hang in there with the allergies and skin stuff. You’re doing some of the best things you could ever do for yourself and that’s eat raw and run Reiki! I’ve heard of EFT and tried it a few times, but it wasn’t for me. This was yrs ago so I really can’t recall much on it right now.

That’s so interesting Suzanne. I’m sensitive to some foods that cause inflammation, and I wonder if I can eat some of them while raw, after staying off of them for a while? In particular corn and tomatoes. I just don’t eat them when I’m raw….food for thought. Your allergic reaction is something completely different, of course.

Day one-- Welcome all to day one of the December challenge. I'm excited about this journey this month. It is nice to know there is support along the way.
I had pear pudding for breakfast. A salad and granola for lunch. Tonight--I'm gonna have to throw together some concoction with the little amount of food that we have. I think I'll cut up broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots and maybe add some raisins and nuts with some sort of spices and dressing. We'll see how it goes. Shopping must be on the agenda for tomorrow.

Hello everyone. Is there anyone else here who doesn’t like the taste of flax?
Mindful Mama...I knew someone who went through the skin breakout after going raw. It did clear up so hang on in there. Detox, as we know, is horrible but necessary. So hope raw brings you back to full and vibrant health. I have done EFT. I didn’t find the results dramatic at the time but later I would suddenly realise that whatever I had tapped about just wasn’t an issue anymore. I think it works.
AllergyGirl...you asked a while ago about what we sprout. I've only sprouted wheat berries so far. I started because of an allergy/intolerance to wheat (as in baked bread). Now I make raw sprouted wheat bread. I made Alissa's Banana Bread today. I'm going to sprout oats for the first time tomorrow and use them to make granola and porridge. If I ever find garbanzo beans I will sprout them to make hummus. Thanks for your Corn Chowder recipe. It’s on my menu plan this week.
Tvillemom...Thanks for your welcome! And for the pate recipe. Another one on my menu plan. Poor you with no FP. Don’t think I could do this without mine.
Raspberry4...My hubby persists in giving me every detail of what he cooks and how he’s cooking it. I tell myself, “Cooked food is poison and you’re eating dead flesh.” He wanted some of my raw choc banana icecream though! Hope raw brings you back to full and vibrant health too.
Shine on, everyone!

Maisie, you tolerate the sprouted wheat berries fine? I'm also allergic to wheat, and I'm dying to make the calzones and some other things that use sprouted wheat berries, but have avoided them due to the allergy. I suppose I could buy a bag of them and just try it...

Oh never mind, I just looked at the recipe again and it's buckwheat, not wheat berries. I've never had buckwheat, but some people with wheat allergies tolerate it, so I guess I'll just have to see...they sound so good.

Hi AllergyGirl. I have no problems with sprouted wheat berries at all. It doesn’t work for everyone though. It depends what part of the wheat you’re allergic to. Sprouting causes the wheat berry to produce enzymes that break down starches and proteins so it’s easier to digest. (I think I may have had more of a problem with digesting it rather than an allergy.) Sprouted wheat still has some gluten in it though so celiacs can’t tolerate it.
That Calzone looks delicious. It’s what made me buy LOLF. I hope it turns out better then the buckwheat cookies I made last week (not Alissa’s). Had to throw them away. It was like eating sawdust!

Maisielou1 - thanks so much for the well wishes. You know, I never thought of it before as "dead flesh" - what a great and gross description that will help me when I get a temptation! Thanks!

Eww sawdust. :(
It's not the gluten that gets me, but the protein in the wheat.

AllergyGirl...Don't let me put you off buckwheat. The recipe might have been wrong or more likely I made it wrong!

Raspberry4...You're welcome! In LOLF Alissa says not to indulge the thought when temptation arises. I need to heed that advice a lot!

Got a running start! :) Had GS and salad today, sprouted crackers with salsa and avocado, and a chai smoothie tonight (bananas, dates, water, cashews, cinnamon, and cardamom.) YUM! Soaking sunflowers seeds for tomorrow's pate. Life is good!

I'm returning to raw after a binge... please tell me some more about wheat / gluten intolerance. How did you find out about your allergy?

My wheat allergy was diagnosed along with a few other food allergies by an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist, who did blood testing. Some of my other food allergies came about later, after a failed attempt to desensitize me with allergy shots. Those ones I just noticed because of the symptoms after eating foods containing those items. In all of those cases (the new ones), the symptoms were so severe, that it would've been tough to miss them.
