View Full Version : Five and a half months --- detoxing?

I've been raw for five months now and I was just wondering if anyone suddenly had any detox issues when they're this far into the diet?
I went from about 290lb and now I am around 230. I am not 100% raw, on the weekends I like to add some cooked food, just so I don't go completely crazy. My body seems to better with it. :) I tend to lean more heavily toward fruits than veggies.
But this week I think I must be detoxing - I have a loss of appetite, whatever I do eat gives me diahrrea, I've been kinda tired and stressed out. Bad body odor. I've also been having eye twitching for about a month now - on an off -- and that is driving me crazy!!!! Magnesium seems to help with the eye twitch as long as I remember to take it, otherwise it comes right back.
Lets see...I've been exercising a lot more than I used to -- I swim 40-50 mintues now about 5 days a week. Before I started this diet (and halfway into it too) I was living a very non-active lifestyle. I hated exercising. But I love swimming now and I decided that was the thing for me! I can't wait to go to the gym every day. :D And so tHe weight seems to be pouring off this month because of it.
I know that toxins are stored in the fat cells. So when you have a month where you are exercising more than your body is used to and you're losing more weight then other months - would you also detox hard too? Because those toxins have to go somewhere right???
I was just wondering if any others had experienced detoxing when you're this far into the lifestyle.
When you are detoxing and you have a loss of appetite - would you still eat?? Or would you listen to your body and not eat as much? Maybe I should do a juice fast or something???
Anyway, maybe someone can give me some pointers.

Loss of apetite can happen on raw, but you should check if it's not just growing out of the habit of eating. When you grow out of the habit of eating, you feel like you're not hugnry when you in fact are, but the signals in your body are telling you there's a famine and you need to live off less. Raw makes hunger feel different; you don't get a ridiculously growly stomach or hunger pangs because your bloodsugar stabilizes and what raw you eat fills your stomach and provides enough nutrition. It doesn't mean, however, that you don't need food. You just have to re-learn how to recognise hunger. If you don't feel hungry, of course you can just eat less (it's all so individual. Some people simply ate too much when on SAD so eating RAW seems like eating less), but there's a chance that you'll start eating too little and your body wont get enough food and you'll start feeling deprived and grumpy and lacking in energy. Fasting might be a good way to clear your system a bit.
Detoxing is an individual thing too. Some might go through a few months of it and some a few years. You can also have a good few months of no detox at all and then have a week or two with something unpleasant. From what I remember you can roughly estimate how long you can expect to run into some detox by counting one detox month per year of being on SAD... and of course it's not really that straight forward, but everything you've been putting in your body makes a difference in how your detox goes. Very comforting, I know. :)
When I feel a loss of apetite, I still try to eat something every few hours. It just might be less than I'd eat normally. Right now I definitely can't afford to not eat at all, since we're going through winter and the temperatures are consistenly below zero. I'd be scoffing down SAD food in no time if I started skipping meals entirely in this weather. :D

Thanks! ;) I was hoping someone would say that about the appetite loss. I didn't know if was just me or not. I know that I have a problem with that, even without detox issues, and it is so easy for me to just not eat. I think that is probably why my weight loss has been sorta slow -- I am probably not eating enough.
Before I went raw I had a terrible habit of not eating anything until I ate dinner - then I'd scarf down everything in sight. And that was one of the hardest habits to reprogram when I started eating raw -- just eat!! :)
I'm just wondering about this detox -- I didn't have too many detox symptoms when I first started because I did 10 days of the master cleanse and that pretty much was like having the flu for 10 days!! :D But everyone around work is sick with colds or the flu...so I was also wondering if I might have a bug of some sort. I think it's detox though -- because other then those symptoms -- I feel okay. I don't feel sick.
Speaking of illnesses -- I had a cold a couple months ago -- and I must say eating raw is awesome! It will allow your body to handle that cold and get it out of you in 4 days or less!!! I hardly had any head congestion, tiredness, headaches, wasn't blowing my nose every 10 seconds -- none of that! I could even sing in the choir at church still!!! hahaha.

remember... when you release fat you release toxins... and you need to detox that. also... you are eating SAD foods (as i removed that from your post I won't go into the exact particulars) and so they also carry toxins.
also the pool is like a toxic pool of chemicals... you need to detox that as well.
so detox will be an ongoing for ya... as long as you are eating SAD. it's just part of life.
and... i've been raw for over 3 years and i still detox. i've released 168 pounds...

Personally I think it has to do with swimming 5 days a week. The chlorine is probably wreaking havoc on your system. I also love to swim but I cut my swimming to once and week and take a bath with epson salt in it to pull the chlorine out of my system. I was told to do that by a homeopathic doctor (my sister). I would look on line and see what else helps with this. I haven't as of yet.

I doubt it's detox. It's probably something you ate, or you got sick?
I was wondering this too -- if I was sick, because everyone at work has been sick all week. I felt really funny on Wednesday, my stomach was really, really hurting after I'd eat. It was kinda weird. I had been eating some granola all week, I don't know if that was the problem, but I cut that out. And I feel just fine the past two days actually.
The loss of appetite -- I know when I got a cold a couple months ago the appetite disappeared and I read that this is a natural reaction of the body when you are sick - it wants you to fast so it can route all that energy into healing you. I noticed that while researching fasting before I did the master cleanse, that the body's immune system will go into overtime if you fast.
But I knew it could also be detox from exercising.
I hadn't thought about the cholorine in the pool. It probably won't stop me from swimming though! :D It's the only exercise I really enjoy, so I'm not going to limit it. I wonder what people who are swimteams do, cause they are always in the water. I'll have to look into that.
Anyway, thanks for all your advise guys! :)
Do you take B12? Not saying you lack this at all or your eye twitching is from a deficiency, but eye twitching is a common symptom of low B12, so I thought I'd bring that up. Hope all goes better soon! Lot of viruses going around these days.
