Okay, so I have a really good friend who is having stomach bypass surgery tomorrow. We live about 3,000miles apart. I saw her in Aug. and tried to suggest doing more raw food, but she is not in a supportive environment for that. However, she is going to have to have a liquid diet for a while and I thought that it would be great to get her some great liquid diet powders or something like that rather than flowers, etc. Books would be great, but I don't know what all she has read lately as she is big into books.

Any ideas even other than food or bath items (at her weight and surgery recovery, I don't envision that she is soaking in the bath).

Please provide any leads on companies as well.

Thanks I just found out today so I would like to get something ASAP for her return home on Friday.

Thanks

Why not a smoothie book (http://bit.ly/engEV)? REAL food; not powder. :)

the smoothie book is a great idea.

how about a juicer as a gift? that'll assist her now and in the future!

Yeh, I had thought about Boutenko's green smoothie book, but perhaps the one that you mentioned would be good, maybe I will get both.

I think to get her a juicer would be a bit much. I don't know if she has one. She is the kind of person that accumulates a lot of things that she does not use and she has so little space in her kitchen. I think that I would advocate a VitaMix first if she does not have a good blender.

Any other ideas?

How about some DVDs of her fav movies or music CDs along with magazines or books on health and beauty? How about some soothing incense or potpourri or emollient skin creams?

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I finally decided on 2 smoothie books. I figure she can return them if she does not want them (alternatively mail them to me, though I did not say that :D).

I got these two smoothie books. I like Boutenko's, but I am not a huge fan of the proportions and measurements in that book as they seem really off. These other two both have green smoothies, so that is good too. The first is not solely live food based, but hey it has green smoothies in it and that may be a good transition book for the other other more live-food based.

I just had them shipped to her directly...no basket :-( like I wanted, but that is okay too. I just hope that this drastic measure does for her what she wants and that it is not something that she regrets. I so wish that I lived closer to support her in her endeavors, but like I said she is not getting the support that she needs to make significant lifestyle changes. She asked me what I thought and I told her. I wish that she would give raw food a chance.

Alas, the woman is in dire pain and can barely walk and is popping so much advil that she is desperate and consequently took desperate measures to try and correct all of that.

I will update this post on what she thinks of the books if I have something. I had not seen either of these books, so I hope that they are good and something that she will use.

Thank you for trusting in my suggestion. I hope she likes "Smoothies and Smoozies" as well ~ and uses it. :)

I personally think smoothies are the way to go for folk who can't, or wont eat solids ~ the elderly and people like your friend. I put it together because my mother died of malnutrition and my cousin, when I was at my mother's funeral said "She should have been drinking 'her' Ensure". I was flabbergasted! No! She "should" have been drinking real food!

It's great that you're such a caring friend.
