Shopping around for one and I was just wondering what everyone else uses and what they like/don't like about theirs? I have an old Ronco one that my friend picked-up for $10 at a yard sale (un-used!) But, I am nervous about using it because it doesn't have a thermometer on it and when I placed one in it I could only get it on the top shelf. I have pretty much decided to forget this one and buy my own. So any help from you all would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

You can get the American Harvest Snack Master from Walmart, Walmart.com or EverythingKitchens.com.

It's a round model but has a temp. control. I've had and used mine for almost a year now. I now have an Excalibur because a good friend of mine gave me hers. But I intend to continue to use them both and UNcook up a storm!!

I have 3, all Excalibur, all a little different.

1. my first one, is an Excalibur 9 tray with temp control, no timer, I've had it about 5 years, love it, and think it's great.

2. I have another Excalibur 9 tray (because I dehydrate alot of food) and it has a timer and a temp control. I love the timer, as I can simply turn it on and leave it.

3. I have another Excalibur 4 tray, it has a temp control and no timer, Although I am using it in my kitchen with my other two (it is harvest season now, so we are dehydrating a lot of stuff) I bought it to take with me when I travel, so I can have warmed foods, that are raw.

I love the way the trays are totally removeable, and very large, I can take out one or several trays, I can dehydrate big pizza crusts, I can dehydrate tall breads and things, I can't imagine a more perfect machine for dehydrating.

Oh, and extremely reasonable to operate. I can't even tell a difference in my electric bill.

Another vote for Excalibur. I just gave my mom my 5 tray and splurged on the 9 tray. I think I'd be afraid to use anything else, judging from the stories I've heard. I've not messed anything up yet!
