View Full Version : Fasting for November? Come fast with us!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!

There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.

And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.

Today I'm on Day 156 and happy to continue fasting.

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.

Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.

We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!

Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Weather was BEAUTIFUL on Saturday and Sunday felt like winter :(

Aleesha those links you offered were great! Really enjoyed reading them and they were very informative.

So now I have a few questions for the fellowship:

First- how much produce do you go through in one day? I want to figure how much I am going to need. I know it varies but what is an average?

Second- Do you use organic?

Third- Do you do anything with the pulp? Maybe freeze it for future use?

Fourth- How long of a fast should I go for healing the digestive system?

Thank you in advance for all your help. I am really looking forward to my first fast and have to say I am kinda scared. But whats the worst thing that could happen? I eat!

Have a great day everyone........ the sun is shinning here looks like another wonderful fall day. It's my favorite season.

first... we don't know what juices you are making so we can't advise you on how much produce you'll go through.

second... if i can get it, i sure do - it's waaaaaaaaaay healthier

third... never freeze it. i may make some crackers out of it but usually i offer it to my dogs and then compost it (or mix it in soup i'm making for the family)

fourth... you never know. i'd start off with a ten day fast and see how it is after that. remember... you can always fast again. if you want to specifically heal that though... make sure to have young coconuts a part of your fast. open them, drink the water inside and save the meat in a bag (in the freezer) for after your fast.

kjduf- Welcome to our fasting thread!

The amounts definitely vary. And you'll find that you might like more of one thing and less of another or you'll switch off and on with different things so it's hard to guess until you get going. Also, some things, like celery and cukes, make a lot of juice where other things don't make that much.

I buy organic as much as possible. It's more $$$ but I just figure it saves my health and is cheaper than doctor visits!

I've made crackers with the pulp. I also give some to a friend who gives it to her dogs. They need to be healthy too. :)

Like Aleesha suggests- Try 10 days and see how you feel and then decide what you want to do from there. After you get past the first 2-3 days, it gets easier.

I got an email from my "forever friend". We've been best friends since high school. She has 5 kids and homeschools plus is super active in their church so I only hear from her every 3-4 months and then it's in bits and pieces. She had lyme disease that almost killed her a few years ago but went to an alternative doc and he got her juicing and doing other natural alternatives. Now they mostly do smoothies. I knew she'd done a lot of natural stuff but she'd never mentioned the juicing, so it was cool to find that out!

I hope everyone's day has been great! I'm going to take trash up to the road and go find me a hug! :D

i had a grumpy morning. my hubby was assisting me to make some juice blends and he wasn't doing it like i suggested. i find 'blends' are much more difficult to master than a mono juice which is what he's used to making for me.

i found myself almost having a kiniption and so... i asked him to let me take over. i did it the way i wanted to and ended up with some yummy blends. i realized i haven't been doing enough juice lately. i'm just having my tom blend and then water and/or coconut water most days. so we made up 6 x 1/2 litre jars so i'm set for a couple of days.

i had a lovely tom blend for lunch today... so i'll have my fruit blend later on.

a big part of my panic this morning was that i saw everything with price tags on them. with my hubby out of work and no money coming in... i'm so sensitive to prices and how much i'm using (probably why i'm doing less juice too to be honest)...

i'm feeling very grounded and centred now though. (deep breath)

(((BIG HUG))) to you, Lady Awen! I can understand the concern about money with your hubby being out of work. I pray that all your needs will be met and that you will be able to find peace in the situation.

DH decided to load that trash can in the Polaris (4 wheeler like a John Deere Gator) so we took it up in that. He's being thoughtful about my arm and trying to keep me from taxing it. When we came back we stopped at the fire he'd started today to burn more brush. It felt so warm and welcoming. It's spitting rain and is supposed to rain tomorrow too.

Tomorrow is the 7th anniversary since my late DH passed away. How my life has changed since then! I am so different and have learned so much. He was always proud of me, but I know he would be even more proud of me now.

What a road my life has led me down! But it is all for a reason and I am thankful for all I've learned and for all the blessings in my life, both past and present.

more hugs to you for tomorrow. (((hugs)))

ahhhh a fire. i love fires. i love to sit by them and just stare at the flames. nothing like real flames. we are expecting snow this weekend - very early for us here on the westcoast of canada. it probably won't stay long... but we'll see if it does indeed come. the mountains surrounding us are covered... so it's only a matter of time before it makes it's way to sea level. LOL

any bruising yet with your arm? how's it healing?

more hugs... {just for the heck of it} (((hugs)))

Hello fasters!
It's been a few days since I've checked in. In the meantime I've been thinking about my fellow fasters & sending you love.
I'm doing great! Today is day 9, I will break my fast during an early dinner tomorrow, after a reiki session! This fast was very different from the others I've done. It has been interesting to see and feel how the process of healing evolves. Thank you much for being here with me. Your support has been so kind. I'll be back to fast with you again.
Aleesha- you were right on with the papaya, mango, pinapple combo I added a little coconut water. It was like drinking sunshine!! This is a combo that will take me through a cold Wisconsin winter!! Or any day I'm feeling a little down. I am inspired by your grace.
Light & love...

MM, I'm so glad you were able to complete your fast. Your body is thanking you for the gift you've given it. Amazing how taking a little time from our usual routine of ingesting solids can make so many changes in every aspect of our being.

I look forward to fasting with you again in the future... if you desire to do another.

Ahhhhh grace. I love grace... and humility. Both beautiful qualities.

*smiling*

~~~
on another note... i had LOTS of spices in my tom blend today... and... *drum roll please*... NO BUTT PEE! yup you read that right... none. nada. ahhhhhhhhhhh we are talking bliss here folks... pure bliss!!!
Mindful- Congrats on completing a great fast! Well done! And do join us again!
Lady Awen- (((hugs))) right back at ya! Thank you so much for thinking of me today. I never want to forget, yet I try to avoid dwelling on it because it drags me down after a bit. I've definitely learned a lot these past 7 years that I wish I would have known then. I guess it pushed me into a quest to find real healing and good health, though, so I learned from it and that is always good.
My arm is doing amazing! There was a tiny bruise for a couple of days but it is gone. The pain has been so minimal that it hasn't really bothered at all. I overdid it once and it ached so I backed off and it has been fine since. I am very impressed! I like looking at it and not being able to see those silicone rods thru the skin! I can see small depressions where they were is all. It's a very freeing feeling! I didn't realize just how good I would feel about getting them out!
Congrats on the no BP and on the 5 months and 3 days (4 days now, I guess). You Rawk!
Brrr to the snow and the windows open at night! My mom said they are supposed to get a little snow (probably just flurries) by the end of this week. It's pretty but I'm not a big fan of it. I do think being in the mtns would be really beautiful and breathtaking, though. If we have one day a winter here where it snows enough to close work and I can be home to play in it, I am fine! Then it melts and I'm even finer! lolol
Terrific Tuesday to us all!
Aleesha Sattva
11-16-2010, 10:15 AM
Ya we don't get much snow where I am. Here and there we'll get two weeks (usually in Feb) where we actually have depth and the snow stays... otherwise it's a 'snow now, melt later today' kinda thing here. I like that. Not a fan of permanent snow.
I'm so happy to hear your armed healed so quickly. I figured it would, with fasting and it's nice to see that was the case! I bet your entire body is rejoicing now... with that gone.
I get my blood work done this week... and then I may do a few days on water. Not sure yet. I think if I do decide to do water I'll have to have all my work completed on the magazine since focusing is not my strength when water fasting. But honestly... saving the money on produce right now would be a good thing to do... so I'll have to sit and figure out what to do.
Here's to another day of fasting and healing! *cheers*
this thread is so quiet... seems weird since it's been so busy for so long LOL
i'm having a bit of a stressful day. but breathing is a good thing and i'll just continue to do that.
ohhhhmmmmm.
had a lovely tom juice for lunch and just had an apple/pineapple blend for snack... may make another tom juice for dinner if my tummy settles. it's reacting to the stress... :(
Well, I crashed today! Bigtime! Even with the avocado slices, I have still been feeling like I'm getting weaker and in a brain fog. The past 2 days I've felt dizzy even when laying down. I just wonder if I've pushed myself too hard and my blood sugar is just going crazy or something. This afternoon I felt so out of it that I didn't dare to drive home until I'd eaten something. I've never felt this bad before with fasting! I managed to get home and just decided that it's not worth it to push myself so hard if it's bothering me this bad. I will try doing the alternate day fasting for now to try to build my body back up. Something has got to be missing.
I want to email my Nat Doc, but he isn't in favor of fasting anyway, and definitely not for more than a couple of days at a time, so I already know pretty much what he'll tell me. And I know I don't want to give it up... I just want to figure out what's going on and what to do to avoid the problems I've just experienced.
On top of that, it was a dreary day here and I felt a bit sad and kept more to myself today. One friend at work remembered the day, though, and she sent me the sweetest email before I even got to work. I have the sweetest friends!
Lady Awen- I hope the stress will ease up. I can understand your wanting to water fast again to save money. I would probably feel the same way. I think your levels should be much better tomorrow and your doc will let you do it again.
Yes, it sure has been quiet here today! HELLLOOOOOOO! IS ANYBODY OUT THERE? (In my best Winnie the Pooh voice!)
That's cool that you don't get much snow. To me, Canada sounds like "snow" to me! lol... Of course, I grew up in New York State and whenever I tell people I'm from NY State and they don't know much about it, they just picture city and don't realize there is country and farmland there!
I'm anxious to use the sauna again. I am probably going to do it tomorrow night. If I sweat the tape off of the incisions, it's close enough to being a week so that I don't think it will matter in the least. It seems to be healing quickly enough so I don't see it as a problem. I have really missed my sauna!
Anyway... Time to get over my "mood". I am feeling a bit stronger after eating and I'm ready to try the alternate day fasting to see how that goes. I am going to add protein back in my juice and try to build myself back up to where I feel good again.
Oh, and I did read on one site today about a 54 year old Scottish woman who juice fasted for 249 days. When I Googled it, quite a few sites came up with the same little paragraph about it but doesn't give any details or say when she did it. I like details so I was disappointed there wasn't anymore information!
(((Aleesha))) Here's to a relaxing evening and a great night's sleep for you, my friend!
Hey Lady Aredhel! Good to hear from you!
Ya know--- I was just thinking that next week is Thanksgiving in the US, so it could be people are busy with getting into holiday things here and that's why it wasn't so busy today. A lot of people will be going on vacation, etc. Not much consolation, but I'll still be here! ;)
Aleesha Sattva
11-16-2010, 06:50 PM
Lady Aredhel, I'd rather than some nice cantaloupe if that's not too much of a bother. (((hugs)))
Miss, why not try eating for a bit... and leave the fasting for a bit. (((hugs))) You'll know what's best for you of course, I support you in whatever you decide.
249 eh? Wonder what she fasted on? Hmmm... I've never found any info like that but I'll go google and see what I can do.
I think I'll probably be fasting alone through the next few months... with Christmas/Yule coming up. That's fine... I can post on my blog instead of here... but if there's anyone else who's fasting with me... I'm happy to continue posting with ya. *smiling* Either way works for meeeeee.
I did some more searching online and found a natural health coach's site with a blog about the alternate day fasting. I sent him a message asking some questions in relation to blood sugar, etc. I will see if he's dealt with anything similar to what I'm going thru and see how he handled it.
I imagine January will be crowded here once everyone gets back on the health and diet bandwagon for the New Year.
Yep, 249 days... I really wanted to find her story. It has to be out there somewhere! It would be really interesting to read about.
Ladies, I just had a really amazing attunement from my student who took her Teacher attunement (Reiki) a few weeks ago. What a powerful experience it was. I'm in awe of her, of our journey together and I'm so honoured to walk beside her in this lifetime.
I'm not sure if I want to continue fasting. I'm going to think on it and make a decision in the next few days. I don't think it's in my body's best interest to stop fasting right now... with all the food surrounding Christmas/Yule... but I just don't know if I want to do this anymore.
So... we'll see where I go from here...
Lady Awen- I'm glad you will continue your fast. You really do amaze me!
I have spent some time thinking things over myself. It could be that I'm still weak from going thru the procedure last week and passing out and my body just needs some time to get back to normal. There's also been a lot of stress with my dad dying and the anniversary of hubby dying along with trying to be there for my mom thru all she's going thru.
I also think I will send a letter to my gynecologist since she wasn't the one who did the procedure and I didn't get to see or talk to her when I was there. Since she is so into the juicing and smoothies and healthy eating, I want to ask her if she knows a Nat Doc locally that I could work with who supports juicing and fasting and the raw lifestyle. Mine is in AZ and I just send my hair sample every few months and he sends back the results and what to do diet and supplement wise. He is okay with 10-12 oz of juice a day but not longterm fasting and he doesn't like the raw food diet at all (claims it's too yin and that people today need more yang). It's worth a try to get some info from my gynecologist anyway.
In the meantime, I will just let my body lead.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Aleesha..You won't be alone the whole time until January. I am planning on fasting at least a week during December. We'll see ....
This has been a really good week. I have so much to do, but I'm really not stressing about it. Things are getting done that need to be, and I'm feeling more grounded and like I'm walking in the right direction.
I'm learning alot about myself and now I'm just having to learn to make myself do what I know is best and to restain myself from those things that are not the best.
in Light,
HI Fasters!! Hope everyone is having a great day! Im hoping I can join your thread - Im not completely juice fasting - by that I mean I made a gallon of green juice last night for todays nourishment - but it was awful!! Waaay too green! I ended up adding some whole fruit to it and blending the two together - much better! So if that counts - Im in! I plan on just continuing to drink green juice - or juice blended with whole fruit - I dont do well with smoothies yet - my digestion is still too sluggish - hoping to see an improvement. I have tried enzymes but was hoping the live juice would alleviate this need.
I dont have a deadline - I would like to think I could live like this! I just cant seem to gain control over cooked food - and quite frankly I dont really like it! Raw food, juicing, blending - is exciting and fun to me! I feel like we have discovered this hidden secret!
Im hoping to see a change in my well being and appearance.
Good luck to all!!
Good Morning!!
I am now an official faster! I did not plan on fasting, didn't get my produce bought but felt so strongly that I had to start this morning... it was weird. So I used what I had.
I brought to work 2 young coconut water and made a juice that I get from my local health food store. 1 quart of Carrots, beets, apple, celery, cucumber and ginger. So far I have had 48 oz of water and am now sipping my coconut water. I LOOOOVVVVEEEEE coconut water. It is just so good!! I hope I have enough juice for today. I will be better prepared tomorrow.
So as I was going to through my frig I noticed I have 5 zucchini's that will go bad if I don't do anything with. Can you juice those? Does it taste good?
Thanks for all your help,
Kellie
Janem, welcome! I have found that greens get more palatable the longer I've juiced/eaten raw. In the beginning, I needed mostly fruit juice, but now I crave greens all the time. So good for you! In my opinion, green juices are the best way to start on the path.
This morning I am eerily peaceful--I suppose my body is much cleaner than it was a year ago. So encouraging!!!
wow look at all of you... (((hugs))) okay come on... group hug!!! (((group hugs)))
miss, i support you in finding a nat dr that will support you in your choices. i know that having my allopathic dr support me is huge in my life. i also wondered about your anniversaries and losses etc and yesterday's incident... that is exactly what came to my mind when i read what you posted... so perhaps it is connected?
lady aredhel... ahhhhh i love fasting with you mama... myyyy precious... you knows i loves it... you knows i needs it... you knows me... myyy precious.
jan, you can fast however you like... we'll support your right to choose for yourself 100%. whatever works! question though... why not juice in whole fruits rather than blend them? you'll get a greater healing/cleansing from allowing your digestion to rest deeper than it does on blended food.
and as for green juices. some people love them others (like me) don't. i've been raw for over 3 years and fasted for much of that time. still don't like green juices and my body doesn't either although... i do add greens to my juices, just not so much that i can taste them!
kelly, welcome to the world of fasters!!! congrats on beginning! remember... water is your friend. if you are really hungry... drink a litre (quart) of water... that'll help tremendously. the evenings are often the hardest for a faster... find things to do with yourself. don't just sit around focusing on food... read a book, watch a movie, meditate, go for a walk... have a nice bath. whatever it takes. sometimes, i just go to bed early... to stop my mind from begging...
Lid Glitterbattler, i can't imagine your body not being cleaner after what you endured during your 3 month fast at that retreat. (((hugs)))
i took an attunement (Reiki) last night and plan on focusing on some spiritual aspects for the next few days and hopefully that'll get me through this rough patch. honestly... breaking my fast right now is not in my body's best interest and even though my mind is being a PITA (pain in the a..) i need to get through this and over to the other side cause folks... trust me on this... there is always a greener meadow on the other side of these struggles. your body does settle. it does relax and fasting does become 'ease' again.
it's just getting to the meadow that can be hard going sometimes. right now... i can see the meadow... it's just this darned mount doom that i have to climb over first...
I want to do a juice fast, but honestly I am scared. I tried it once for a day, and I had such a headache at night, I couldn't do it. I have been looking over the post on here and I was wondering when some of you have talked about saving your juice in containers, I thought that you had to drink your juice right away, also do green smoothies count? I did a kale, banana, apple, and strawberry one for breakfast, and a snack today. Also does it matter how much you drink? Thanks for the help :)
i add zucchini to my tom juice blend every day!!! mmmm yummers.
trying... you can drink as much as you wish and whatever you wish. you can do a water fast, juice fast, juice feast (more than 4 litres of juice per day), or a green smoothie feast (all smoothies as many as you desire each day and you can have also have freshly made raw live juices as well)
so create what you desire. the headache is detox... and yup they often come in the first days. it's also your body adjusting to less...
why not begin with a green smoothie feast? it's more gentle and easier to do than a fast.
i just got out of the sauna... ahhhh i feel gooooooooood.
Well, I got an email from the natural health practitioner and he said he had blood sugar problems before and does the Alternate Day Fasting (ADF) and his blood sugar stays stable now. So, I ended up juice fasting today but added my raw protein in... I feel like a million bucks and have all kinds of energy today! So, tomorrow I will eat and then fast again Friday if I feel well. As long as I feel like I feel today, I don't see any problem. I didn't even do avocado slices today. I feel soooooooo good!
I have a letter to send to my gynecologist to ask her if she has any suggestions of any good practitioners.
Tomorrow is the Christmas Show and I'm very excited to go check it all out.
oh that's good news menelwen... very good news indeed!!!
i just got home from the market and you know what that means... FREE FOOD!!! i got a lot of tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 4 kiwis and a huge pile of grapefruit. oh mama is happy.
then i bought organic apples, beets with greens, celery, red peppers, shallots and fennel!!! mmmmm my juice will be lovely tomorrow.
i get my blood work done tomorrow. i have to fast for this one *giggling* makes me laugh... so i'll be sure to fast for my test LOL *giggling more* *falls over laughing*...
trying, it's always easier to start in the morning. so why not just do water in the morning till you get your produce and then add in juice rather than eating in the morning and then stopping for the rest of the day? it's up to you... ;)
i'm off to watch survivor with my daughter, take another attunement in the sauna and do a reading for a client.
later gators!
That is hilarious about having to fast to get your bloodwork done. I bet you can't wait to get it done so you can go back to fasting again! lol
I'm glad you got your free produce again so you can keep that juice flowing.
Menelwen, ya I don't know how I'll fast ALL NIGHT LONG and then into the morning. How will I survive that long without food??? *giggling harder*
I'm in heaven... my struggle is not here tonight. I feel at peace! *smiling*
I just took the third attunement. Wow is all I can say. I can barely type LOL
One word of advice for you (esp you Menelwen). I don't know if you'll ever need this in your lifetime but you know me... always willing to share knowledge. I learned something in the sauna while taking the attunement tonight.
Farting in the sauna is not a good thing. Heat, closed space... just trust me here... try not to do it.
Other than that... this attunement was amazing.
I'm in bliss...
Can't wait for tomorrow's attunement! I'll be taking it in the sauna... just hoping that I don't fart...
LOL!!! Question, I'm doing water and tea, but craving sweet, so could I add stevia, or would that reawaken my hunger? Also, my final day of fasting will be December 15. I'm aboard until then.
Gosh, I've never heard of zucchini juice...:eek:
missyc
11-18-2010, 06:24 AM
Lady Awen- Thank you for the sauna fart warning! lol... I really enjoyed my sauna last night. It had been 8 days since my last one. It's as addicting as fasting is!
As far as the zucchini topic- I've used them too and like them. I've also used yellow summer squash and REALLY like it. There is something about it that seems like it makes the juice more "smooth".
I'm feeling awesome this morning and am ready for the day. It's cool to see so many here making the fasting journey.
We had a friend visiting last night that goes to a homeopath. It was fun to "compare notes" and talk about healthy things. She was very interested in all the juicing and juice fasting and was amazed at how both DH and I have lost weight and are "feeling good in our skin".
(((Menelwen hugs everyone)))
Aleesha Sattva
11-18-2010, 09:26 AM
lovin' those hugs!!! thanks.
if you are doing a water fast... then you aren't in full ketosis anyway since you are having tea so adding in stevia or raw honey won't matter much (except your body will use that energy and take you even further out of ketosis)... but if that doesn't matter to you (ketosis is where deep healing takes place) then go ahead and enjoy your tea sweetened!
i'm awake and had a hard night last night. some not comfy dreams and uncomfy awake times. but it's morning now and i'm ready to continue fasting for my blood work. can't wait to hear them say, "when was the last time you ate?" and my response "June 13th" LOL giggling... yes I know... it's old but I'm still giggling over this.
;)
oh i've been meaning to share. i've been adding coconut oil to my tom juice every day for the past while. can't taste it but i figure it'll add a different quality to my juices and therefore to my body. nice to switch things up!
MOrning fasters!! Hope everyone is well!
Aleesha! You are a riot! Before I would have referred to you as a true inspiration, my hero, annd more but after reading the sauna story you made me really laugh - you are still an inspiration and more though!!:):)
Lid - thank you for the encouragement and the optimism of the green juice! made another horrrrrifffic batch today but I am too stubborn to throw it out so I will drink it:) The greens were fine but I added 2 small oranges and a lemon and I did not peel anything so it is just "not right!" I threw in 1/2 of an avocado and some salba too.
I am determined to continue juicing because I just ordered a greenstar 2 days ago along with a portable colonic unit - so I committed myself to this like it or not:)! which brings me to my next question.........
How do people turn off the "voices" in their heads? I probably have more than most but I constantly go back and forth with this plan, that plan ,the other plan. I have not found "my plan" yet. Soooo much info out there. investing in the juicer etc is a way to hopefully turn down the voices so Iwill stay here. I have always lovvvved the way I feel when eating raw but then I read about another plan and decide - thats the one! So silly at my age!
Hope everyone has a great day!!
Aleesha Sattva
11-18-2010, 09:52 AM
IF you are juicing... you can't juice avocados... and you need to peel oranges. it makes a juice really bitter and horrid.
the voices... meditation helps me a lot. Also time and research. The more you know the less you question. The more confidence you have as well.
and once you get to know me better... you'll realize I have a pretty big sense of humour... I love to laugh!!!
Well I lasted one day! Well not really, I lasted until 5:30pm (12 hours) lol
It was easy during the day and then my mind took over on the way home from work. It talked me out of it, have no idea how it did that. I even fought with it but it won!
I am not disappointed because I can always fast another day and I will be more prepared for it when I do.
So happy fasting everyone, I will still be lurking here and learning all that I can.
How did your blood test come out, Lady Awen?
Aleesha Sattva
11-18-2010, 05:05 PM
I won't know for a week on the test... but I think I passed. LOL When I told her I'd been fasting since June 13th she just looked at me. *blank stare*
Not much of a sense of humour on that woman. Oh well LOL
I just had some lovely tom juice and shared my butt pee poem (((hugs to you))) with my son. He's still laughing...
LOL about the fasting. That poor lady needs a sense of humor! I have always been one to crack jokes even in a doctor's office. It tends to catch them off guard at first but then they end up laughing right along with me. I got my sense of humor from my dad. He was always like that everywhere he went.
That BP poem is making so many people laugh! I am glad! The world needs more laughter.
So, how does it feel to be able to go back to fasting after fasting for your blood test? :)
I bet the snow is really pretty. Especially from INSIDE looking out! lol... I like it when it is calm out and it snows. It brings such a serene feeling to me. It's only when it gets to be deep and doesn't go away that the serenity ends! :rolleyes:
It is pretty. I have the fireplace on... candles lit and the outside is a blanket of white!
I have two words... and you know what they are. Friggin' song got my body dancing to the rhythm and WHAM... out it came!
I have a lovely weekend coming up... I'm very excited about it. I have two crystal bowl meditations... Sat and Sun evening and Sun morning I have the sweat lodge.
And all this after my 4 Reiki attunements in the past three days. I'm blissing out!!!
As for fasting after my fast... It was hard, I have to admit *giggling*... but breaking that fast was fun... LOL
too much giggling going on... just kidding...
I'm sending my hubby to get me some more coconuts this weekend, and I'm placing a big produce order too. So I'm thinking that at least a day or two of fasting before Thanksgiving and then a week or so after .
My body is really missing those juices. Why do we feel (at least I do), that we don't have to make juices when we're not fasting? I think I need to work on that, and still make juices for myself wether I'm fasting or not.
Cathy :D
p.s. I LOVE the snow. I hope you enjoy it Aleesha!!
Aleesha Sattva
11-18-2010, 08:08 PM
i can't do juices when i'm not fasting. my body says "juice=fast" period. it just doesn't comprehend that i could do both together. i think that's a good thing though... cause when i'm doing juices... i know i can't eat. so it goes both ways!
i'm loving this snow... it's soooo pretty!
Happy dance for me it is day 39 and I am so happy with myself. I am going through major emotional detox so I am trying to stay away from intense discussions and a lot of boards. Also certain people in my life. I lose the filter when I am water fasting and it is quite bad right now. I am not mean I just say what I feel and do not remain silent when someone is being an ass.
I always forget how all that nicey nicey fake pretense just falls away when I do long term water fasts. I know not eveyone is like this but I always feel like I won millions of dollars when I am water fasting and I do not have to pretend how I love where I live, what I am dooing with my life and all the other crap. But since I know it is just detox I try to stay away from certain situations.
I will decide tomorrow what I will be doing once the 40 days are up. Skin and hair is great pants are falling off. It is all good.
I hope everyone is having a good fasting experience. I never did record this fast like I wanted to. But I will record day 40 and see after that.
Raw Mom - wowowoooowwwwww!!!!! You are great! What a brain you must have! So proud of you!! I love what you said about fake emotions! Story of my life! Smile and nod!! Keep up the great work!
Aleesha - thank you! great advice as always! The orange rind was disgusting!
Glad you have such a great personality - it really helps to get through each day:)!!
The liquid life is going well! I notice the results in my face - as soon as sugar and flour are gone my eyes perk up!
Kelly - great job getting through the day! If I had any advice how to get through the night I would not need to be here! That is always the hardest time! A long commute home, dark, walking into a house where everyone can program computers,iphones, dvd players, tevo etc but no one can turn on a stove! Nothing says comfort like - well you know!! Hang in there!
Cathy - drink up! The more I juice the more I wished i had been juicing while I was eating - I think they may have complimented one another?
Well todays juice looks gooooood!! I finally juiced my oranges by hand in a citrus juice press and added this to my green juice - much tastier:)!!
I look forward to checking in again!
have a great day!!
jan, i've also heard from others that adding oj to other juices and then letting it sit is not a tastey thing... so they suggested keeping them sep until it was time to consume.
i have a super busy day today... day 160... WOW WOW WOW WOW
AND THEN THERE'S RAWMOM who is completely and totally amazinglicious!!! I wonder what juice you'll break your water fast with? Be sure to water it down a LOT... although you probably have your own protocol after fasting so much over the years. I'd love to hear what it is. Always love learning! :)
I drink juice even on days I'm not fasting. I just like it that much! lol... Plus it's healthy and I know it's doing me tons of good.
Another good day for me today. I thought I'd be sore after all the walking yesterday but I feel fine. We'll watch a movie tonight and I'll put stamps on my Christmas cards. For the first year in a long time, I actually have them addressed and ready to go before Thanksgiving!
menelwen, how's your arm healing?
missyc
11-19-2010, 08:06 PM
Lady Awen- The arm is doing GREAT! Thanks for asking. I can hardly even see the incisions now. I've been putting vitamin E on them. I'll be doing some weight training in the morning for the first time since I had the Norplant out, so I'll see how it feels. I don't think it will be too bad, though. I can see the indentions where the rods were. Kinda weird... almost like they're still there in a way. Not surprising after the years they were in. Maybe in 20 years, the indentions will be gone. lol
We watched Up In The Air with George Clooney. The ending was not at all what I expected! But sometimes that just makes it more interesting! We liked it, though. Makes ya stop and think!
We'll be doing Secret Santa at work for a week next month. I had everyone that wanted to do it draw their person this week. We always have lots of fun. I've already got most of my person's stuff for the week. We have a $3 limit for Monday thru Thursday and then Friday we reveal ourselves with a $15 gift. Everyone fills out a questionnaire about things they like so it gives their Santa an idea of things to get for them instead of just guessing and getting them stuff they don't like.
I'm gonna head for bed pretty soon. I hope everyone has sweet dreams tonight. Here's a (((hug))) for anyone that hasn't met their 4 hug minimum today... or for anyone that needs a hug just because! :)
I am totally not a fasting person but watch this thread as it's interesting; from an outside observation, maybe your body is telling you enough is enough... I know you've always said you listen to your body, but you also have a 'number' in your head for how long you want this fast to last. Maybe that has made you a little "hard of hearing".
Besides, who wants to have butt pee and spend that much time cleaning bathrooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This thread is a "judgement free" zone. I will speak for myself here... but I like that we can talk about anything and not feel judged!!!
Butt pee comes and it goes... and those of us who fast often know this. Its just part of the way some bodies work to eliminate.
Aleesha.. I acually had bp like that the last fast I did. I was like **:eek:** But like we always say.... better out then in :p
i'm not worried about the butt pee. it is just part of the process - unfortunate, but it is LOL
i share about it here... so that others will know it's normal. if we don't talk about it, then others don't know and it may even scare them when it begins.
K8- I know people probably worry about Lady Awen all the time. Fasting isn't "normal" to most people and up until a few months ago, it definitely wasn't normal to me! I thought I would die just going 1 day without food! I've had to change my routine a bit to still incorporate fasting for now, but I am still fasting even if it's just every other day. But I am alive and healthy and feeling super good! I haven't experienced butt pee, but I don't see it as a bad thing. So, K8, I do hope you will continue to pop in and check out this thread and be able to see how it all works for some of us.
I only slept a few hours... woke up at 2:30 and haven't been able to get back to sleep. I have some amazing energy right now! I hope it will last through the day, though! lol... I feel like I've made this huge rebound from how I was feeling just a few days ago and my body isn't quite sure how to handle it! I honestly don't remember feeling this good in a long time! Even the almost constant feeling of "brain fog" that I was having seems to have disappeared. Whether it's the new fasting pattern or having those rods out of my arm, I'm not sure, but something has changed bigtime!
Lady Awen- You know you have my water fasting support these next few days. I'm glad you tell us what is going on when you're fasting. Keep on filling us in and know that I'm here to give you all the (((hugs))) you need!
This thread is for everyone and its such an encouragment to those who are wanting to fast and experience it in their lives. I do hope you will continue to be here and try fasting (if you haven't already) :o
miss, i get those times as well. what i 'think' it is... is this.
our bodies go into deeper stages of healing. we feel like you did the other day. sometimes we feel out of it, lethargic, super sleepy, and other times it very emotional... crying, saddness, regret... it can vary with degrees and with what we are personally experiencing but then... the sun shines through the clouds! our body has made a breakthrough on what it was clearing and we feel more alive than we've felt before!
i've experienced many of theses... and i love each and every one. the Aleesha who is born out of them... is a better version, a cleaner version, a healthier version than the one who went in. it's such a gift!
i'm up early. the house is freezing so i'm under two big blankets and am wearing two sweaters and a scarf. the heat is on and i'm ready to start day one of my water fast. i dreamt last night that i fasted on water for many days... and when i finished something beautiful came into my being... into my life. i'm eager to allow this manifestation to come true.
water.... water.... water i loooooooooooooooooove you water... *singing* water... water... water i looooooove you water. *off key but still singing* WATER... WATER... WATER I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VE YOU!!!!! *yup... that was a big finish!*
Hello Everyone,
Can somebody explain to me what is "Fasting", I seem to be a little confused.
To me it seems that "Fasting" is like not eating at all or just feeding yourself Liquids.... But, I'm not sure.. =(
Thank you.
Aleesha Sattva
11-20-2010, 01:42 PM
yup... that's what fasting can be. you can fast from anything... you can fast from sight, media, sex, you can fast from junk-food... you can fast from solids... you can do a 'true fast' with is water only with nothing at all else. no tea, no lemon squeeze... no toothpaste.
bike, i don't have a set routine - it changes all the time. i usually start my day with Reiki... and then i do my emails and morning computer. later i have a sauna... and sometimes a detox bath afterwards... i always end my day with meditation and Reiki... and meditate in the sauna as well in the bath.
nothing set in stone though... i'm more a go with the flow kinda girl
i sat with a heating pad under my two blankets today... cause this water fasting mama is cold. i'm not thrilled that i have to go out in this... but i really want to attend this mediation so i'm going to brave the cold. that's how much i love these events!
brrrrrrrrr it's so chilly here.
When I'm fasting for any lenght of time.. I have to take long, warm baths every night and then get into my warm bed. Then I'm not so cold :cool:
Brrrrrrr... That is cold, Lady Awen!
I slept GREAT for over 9.5 hours! It's chilly here, but not too bad. I'm gonna highlight my hair and then go out for a walk in a bit.
i just woke up and i leave for the sweat lodge in 45 minutes. i have cold/flu like symptoms today. may be detox or may be the flu everyone here has been fighting. since my tummy has been very sore for 2 or 3 days as well (part of the reason i decided to switch to water since juices were hurting it more)... i think it is the flu.
either way... a good water fast and a good sweat should do the trick to assist my body in it's healing process.
have a great day everyone!
Hi everyone.
I am still water fasting because I could not find young coconuts. I want to break my water fast with coconut water. So I have to wait or drive a few hours to the next town over which I do not have time for right now.
I am still feeling good and I am ok with going a little longer. I plan to do coconut water for a few days after my water fast.
Aleesha- I am so sorry you are sick I hope you feel better soon. Thank you so all your kind words. You are such a sweet lady.
Thank you for eveyone else who was so kind with their support.
I have gained so much from this fast weight lose was a good thing but all the metal clearity was the best.
Lady Awen- I sure hope the bug leaves your household quickly!
Rawmom- Simply fantastic that you have done so well with your water fast! I hope you'll be able to find some young coconuts pretty soon without having to drive so far to get them.
(((hugs to all)))
rawmom, i'm guessing the 30 pounds to go in your signature is no longer true. how much did you release on your fast? that's great that you are taking your time to break your fast until you get the right product for you. that is soooooo wonderful. shows great focus!
i was vomiting all evening and now my hubby is sick with me. my head is pounding... mucus in my throat... ugh. feel horrid.
don't know if i'll continue on water or change up to coconut water. i guess the biggest part of that choice is whether or not we are up to open them. i can't stand right now... so if he can't either than coconut water is out.
on the bright side... got some nice weight release happening LOL i'm 126.8 pounds this morning. :D (hey gotta find the bright side)
Still water fasting and still feeling good. I am cold today and my nose is a little stuffy.
Aleesha- I hope you feel better and got to have your coconut water.
The weight I have to lose is only 10 pounds to be in my proper weight catagory.
But my goal weight is still 30 pounds because before my fast I was at my highest weight. So I had about 69 pounds before my fast. I hope that all makes sense.
Good luck fasters:)
Aleesha Sattva
11-23-2010, 04:48 PM
that makes loads of sense to me. i have another 13 to release for me to be where i'd like to be. of course... numbers don't mean much to me, i'll just go to the place where i feel and look my best.
i got to have a young coconut, it tasted horrid though. :(
taking it easy... feeling a bit better this afternoon. still can't stand up though. depending on how i feel will decide whether or not i continue on with water fasting or switch back to juice for a bit. i'm not in this to suffer LOL
i am feeling much better. *whew* that was the worst i have felt in many years. it was like a severe hangover times 12.
i chose to not water fast today cause the heartburn of water fasting with the way i was feeling was just too much. i think i'm going to do juice for a couple of days and then do a few days on water.
Well, you asked so.....I am having some muscle cramps and hives or else they might be chigger bites from working the lawn and compost pile today. Both have plagued me for a couple weeks now, along with some stomach distress. I am perplexed as to the cause of the hand/arm/feet cramps and the welts, but figure I am due for a fast to help clear my system a little. I've been tapering my diet to prepare for fasting.
I sure hope you feel better Aleesha! Are you wrapped up and keeping warm?
Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating in the States!
I'm still checking in some but have been more to myself. DH's cousin, who has the bad cancer, is not doing real well and has a lot of pain. They will be taking her bladder, uterus and pretty much every organ in that area OUT on Dec. 15th. It will be a very extensive surgery and she's only 46. She had talked like she was going to try juicing, but then never did, and we aren't pushing her at all. It's her choice, not ours. But it definitely is causing us concern as there have already been so many losses in our families this year.
Street- I hope your problems will clear up. Things like that can be frustrating.
Lady Awen- May your illness soon be long gone!
(((healing hugs to you both)))
street, that sucks. see you here real soon.
still sick, want to just curl up and not talk to anyone. i should be able to make some juice today though. at least that's my plan.
I'm so thankful for you Aleesha!!!
Yeah, the sweat lodge can be pretty intense!! This one guy's story was that he was so exhausted afterward and got plenty of rest for the next few days. He also point out that it was very spiritually enlightening! He also seemed like he really found his direction/path afterward as well.
Hug healing vibes and may healing vibes hug you too!! :) And hugging miss and street!!
Today was good but very sad. She was in so much pain. I just don't even know what to say right now. I'll be fasting tomorrow and probably thru most of Saturday, too. I feel so tired tonight. I'll be ready for juice first thing in the am!
I was just skimming through here earlier and this time around I fully read everyone's posts.
Missy ~ I'm really sorry to hear about your DH's cousin. I'm just wondering if she believes in the miracle of juicing/fasting? I'm not an expert, but I was wondering if it would be okay for her to go on a water/juice fast now and see if there is any improvement before her surgery....
There is the beautiful strong lady I admire very much and her name is Kris, she has a website called My Crazy Sexy Cancer and can also look this title up on YouTube as well.
For me, in a situation that extreme... I would go to a doctor who knows about water fasting now and really try to get it out of my system under doctor supervision, then juice fast for awhile afterward, then eat 100% raw. That's what I would do if it were me. I would be fighting for my health! From what I hear water fasting is the most powerful healing thing to do for the body. Those are my thoughts. But then again, I don't know if it's possible to do this before the surgery and see improvements/healing to postpone the surgery to a further date or never....
Would any examples who have healed from exteme illnesses on water fast or juicing give her some hope that she can overcome this???
Lots of love and healing vibes for you and her!!!
whoa- DH has talked to her about juicing and sent her info and told her about the Gerson Therapy, etc. At one time about a month ago, she was going to even bring veggies over and have him juice them for her to try it, but then she never did. She's one who believes in following what her docs tell her and thinks we are kooks for doing all we do for our health. When DH first got into juicing, she made the comment that "You guys are into that WEIRD stuff!"
So, DH has said that he isn't going to push it on her. It's her choice and he has done his part. It's just hard to see people close to us go through this cancer and to watch the chemo and radiation poison and kill them. My late DH went through it. I hated what it did to him. Since his passing, I've only gotten more and more determined that if it ever happens to me, I will never go that route. If I couldn't heal it naturally, then I would know that I was not meant to be healed and that it was time to go. I look forward to going to my real Home to be with God when it's my time anyway! I just plan to stay as healthy as possible in the meantime. :-)
I'm feeling pretty good today. I don't plan on doing any Black Friday shopping. I do need to go to the grocery store for one little thing, though. I don't imagine there will be many grocery shoppers today!
I made some super juice! I really like red pepper in my juice but don't always use it. I've also been putting cranberries in now that they are back in season. It's a great day to fast! :)
Better get off my butt and accomplish some things today! I need to break away from this computer more. I get too addicted and that's not a good thing.
I've had an amazing day today just working around the house and then using the sauna. I feel great! Gonna go have some more "me time" for at least another hour.
Hello fasters! :p
I would like to join you all for a fast... I was planning to start a fast this coming Monday, which gives me the weekend to prepare my body for fasting, as I have been not proper food combining and eating copious amounts of nuts and dried fruits, the right thing to do before a fast is to simplify so my body doesn't go from lots of chaos to shut-down ;)
So the coming two days will be about proper foodcombining, stearing clear of the fat (hard to digest) and prepare my body for the fast to come. I have yet to decide how long I will fast for and whether this will be a juice or a water fast.
If anyone has any tips or would like to share what they think is the best fast, I'd love to hear it!
xx
Welcome Emmanuelle- We would love to have you join us in fasting. I am normally a juice faster. I have done a day of water here and there, but water is a lot harder for most people. We do have some here who can do water with no problem, so everyone is different. I have some thyroid and blood sugar issues so juice works best for me.
You may want to start with juice and see how it goes and then try a day on water to get a feel for it. If it goes well, do more water. If not, just go back to juice.
Aleesha always has great information and pointers but she isn't feeling too well right now and is taking some time away to get better. I have learned a lot from her. I can't remember how many days she has fasted, but I think it is over 160 now and she is going for 222. I'm hoping she'll be back soon to share with us.
If you're like me, once you start fasting, it can be addicting, but it's also very rewarding.
it's been quiet for a bit now... hence why i don't feel too bad taking some personal time.
i'm still not well. my head is aching... sinus headache. still can't stand for long.
Yes, Aleesha, I'd say you deserve a break to take some time for yourself. With such a bad sinus headache, I am sure the last place you want to be is on the computer. I may take some time off as well since it's died down so much here.
DH and I have new earthing mats, so right now we're pretty immersed in them and in checking out all the research and watching the videos on them. I have plenty to keep me busy. :D
ah it's nice to feel well!!! that was quite the flu i had. it knocked me on my butt big time. but i'm better now and can actually look at the computer screen for longer periods of time so that's nice.
fasting-wise... things are good. last week was really tough though. restarting my digestion by having miso while i was sick (i was too sick to stand and make juice and so was my hubby) really made things tough. i was certain that after 160+ days of fasting i would not be able to shut my hunger down again.
but i did it!!!!!!!!!!
i'm still fasting. *whew* so today is day 170 and i'm through those hard 160's and ready to move forward!!!
how is everyone? anyone fasting? I think I'll go start a new thread for december and we can all catch up there.
