Well, I am very very excited!! I went raw because I saw my body going on a downhill spiral--starting with kidney stones, cysts and then arthritis. It was in my knees--at 53 that made me very unhappy. I was having problems getting up and down--even in smiple places like the couch! I've been raw since Aug.(was vegan since March). I wasn't seeing results from being vegan. I'm learning much about being raw! I've added green smoothies to my diet even. I've gone from gourmet raw to simple with some gourmet here and there. I veered once(mildly) but didn't even enjoy it. I looked at a tangerine the other day and got excited about eating it. I have both of Alissa's recipe books and DVD.

NOW-- my knees are totally normal. No more arthrtis! My boys(dogs) love that I can get on the floor again.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

Thanks for posting your encouraging words, blizzardfrisbee!

But jus curious about what else you've done...like have you eliminated nightshades or any solanine-containing things like strawberries, blueberries etc?

Thanks again,

Mary Kay

Blizzardfrisbee, your story sounds a lot like mine, except that I'm only 35 and my arthritis started when I was 10 years old.

I've been vegan most of my adult life, and veg pretty much all of it. I have(had?) arthritis in both hips and one knee, and the last 10 years or more I think I've had it in my fingers.

Going veg helped a little, going vegan helped a bit more, but going all raw helped MASSIVELY!!! I have had pretty much no problems since going all raw, only very occasionally a round red patch on my knee joint that's a little warmer than every where else, but the pain is gone and the flexibility is outta this world! I had no idea my flexibility had been so compromised until I went all raw and got it back and then some!

Raw DEFINITELY helps with arthritis, I've heard so many stories and experienced it myself.

BTW, I eat LOTS of nightshades (mainly tomatoes) and do eat strawberries and blueberries (punnets at a time).

My story is different because I was two years raw before I developed arthritis in my hands.
I find that supplementing with Glucosaminr and Astaxanthin keeps the discomfort under control but I tried to stop taking them and within a week it came back.
I take very little nightshades and do not like strawberries but take some blueberries.
I am planning a long fast in the spring as I have been told that that will fix it so here's hoping.

Thank you both for the good wishes and I will keep you informed. I am planning a fast in late spring or early summer as ai think that is the best time of the year for it. Hopefully that will do the trick.
In the meantime I will try to give up the supplements again in the meantime to see if my diet has helped.

In my opinion based on more than 40 years as a health responsible person, raw and living foods is just the beginning. Moving to raw and living foods is such a philosophical revolution, that everything else I have learned will have to be re-evaluated. It seems like a lot of the things, but not all, that I have been doing to be healthy have simply been compensating for eating almost entirely cooked food. For example, I have a lot of pill bottles filled with pills in my cupboard and on my counter, all lined up very neat and orderly. Most of those pill bottles are a compensation for eating cooked food. Most of them will not be re-bought when I run out.

But, amongst the nutrition oriented things that I may continue will be Vitamin D, Ayurvedic medicine, and perhaps mega-vitamins.

I would love to read what other people have to say. After all, I am but a seed in the fast forest of raw and living foods. :)

Even during the run up to raw, not having read or watched all the GREAT testimonials, I was getting headaches and insomnia. At first, I was worried that perhaps I had taken too much of this pill or that pill or whatever. But I went from about 1% raw to 60% raw, and it landed me in a healing crisis. When I finally figured that out, I was happy, even with a headache. I knew that I was doing my body good.:)

Those are some very keen observations there bachole. :)

I totally agree with you!

All these things people are combatting are mostly the result of a life of cooked food and an unhealthy lifestyle on a multitude of fronts. It's actuallly very hard to get many people to see this for some reason. And often even harder to encourage people to try raw for 30 days.

So recognising this fundamental truth gets a person half way there to healing themselves. :)

Good for you, when I tell people that arthritis is curable they look at me like I am crazy and ask questions like well if you know this why doesn't my doctor, so I give up on a lot of folks because if you lead one to the well of knowledge it is up to them to take in that knowledge and a person must have an open mind which obviously you do. Both kinds of arthritis are curable as well as diabetes type two and some type ones. Congratulations it is good to see someone use their mind and not listen to their doctor that tells you right away how incurable arthritis is while writing a prescription for a drug to take care of the pain. A drug that can kill you.

I have to agree! Many great observations there! I found myself nodding my head quite a lot!

Isn't it funny? SO FEW THINGS are incurable! It's such a JOY to see people's lives changing and getting cured! "Just" from being smart and making magic happen with their own bodies' healing abilities. If we will just let them, our bodies will do so much for us! :)

This is wierd: I went raw in late Jan. and it dramatically reduced terrible trigeminal neuralgia pains in my face, head and neck. BUT... recently my arthritis is much worse than ever. I am eating a lot of tomatoes, but those never aggravated my arthritis before. Does anyone think it could be from sea salt/himalyan salt? I was salt-free at first but then kept reading about sea salt being good for you, so added it.

I think that when people say that sea salt is good what they mean is that it is less harmful than table salt but that is a long way from being good.

Dear Raw Draw,

You might look into Ayurvedic Medicine. It can be very helpful and it is easily understood by the layperson. It can guide you as to which raw foods are best for you.

Raw draw, do you eat a lot of oranges or citrus fruits? I had been told they can exacerbate arthritic symptoms but had dismissed it out of hand as my raw seemed to do the trick no matter what.

I upped my orange consumption as we had a banana shortage and I did find some stiffness returning... Just a thought.

Also, I eat a fair bit of celtic/himalaya/unrefined salt and don't seem to have a problem with it.

Mary Kay

No. I did not do my fast yet. I have a couple of business trips coming up and my son's wedding so it will not be practical for a while and right now I am feeling so terrific and fantastic that maybe I should not upset the status quo. I am on top of the world and you can not go higher than that.
